[name]Bronte[/name]-saurus is the only thing that puts me off, otherwise it would be on my list…
yeah I think of Brontosaurus and Bronchitis
and the only nn I can think of is [name]Bonnie[/name]…but I think [name]Bonnie[/name] is cuter than [name]Bronte[/name]…what do you like about it?
I have always liked the name [name]Bronte[/name]. I like the literary association, and I think it is a beautiful and unique name. I think it would make an awesome first name. I think it is superior to [name]Harper[/name] as [name]Bronte[/name] is more original and not overused by the masses.
Brontesaurus…totally
I love it!! I say go for it!
I totally love it. It’s on my love list at home for names. It’s so cute and I would use the nn [name]Tay[/name] if we use it.
Why is everyone so obsessed with NN’s?
P.S.
I love it. I just started working as an in-hospital newborn photographer and I did shots for a set of twins named [name]Bronte[/name] and [name]Harper[/name].
Wow, I’m not a fan of [name]Bronte[/name] as a first name, but some of the comments on this topic seem a bit harsh. Why presume, upon hearing this name, that the child’s parents are merely trying to appear well-read or that they don’t know how to pronounce it? If I heard it, I might imagine that the parents were, I don’t know, [name]Bronte[/name] fans. I love books. I have a big, fat degree on the wall that says I love them. Does that mean everyone else just started reading when they picked up Twilight? No, it doesn’t.
I second Brontasaurus.
It’s just not very appealing to me. I don’t like anything that ends in an -ay sound. [name]Renee[/name], [name]Desiree[/name], shauntae, Shanay, Wontauntae. I made the last one up. Lol.
I don’t think it has a very pretty sound…somewhat masculine and reminds me of [name]Bruno[/name] or [name]Boris[/name] in style. I can also see why people might think someone who uses it might seem pretentious.
The sound is so harsh to me, and I agree it also sounds quite pretentious.
LOL!! Watch out, you might see Wontauntae on somebody’s list any day now. Or on Toddlers and Tiaras! So fresh sounding! Hahahahaha
The name sounds very harsh/masculine to my ears, or as others have said, brontosaurus. I like the [name]Bronte[/name] sisters reference, but I worked with a [name]Bronte[/name] once, and when I first saw her name on the back board, I thought she was a boy!
[name]Love[/name] it. Agree with the tease factor though.
I pronounce it “[name]Bron[/name]- tee” not [name]Bron[/name]- tay.
Maybe a longer name such as [name]Bronwyn[/name] nn [name]Bronte[/name]?
Coming from a Bronté, I love my name. ([name]Bron[/name]-[name]Tay[/name]) I’ve heard of a few [name]Bron[/name]-tee’s, but I’ve never met anyone called [name]Bronte[/name], regardless of how you pronounce it. I count myself lucky to have such a unique name, its quirky, pretty and I love the é :). My friends call me Brontosaurus, it’s a joke now actually because I have a dinosaur hoodie:) I also get Brontz/Bronts and Bronty or Bronty Boo-Boo. [name]One[/name] of my friends wanted to call me Bon-Bon and [name]Bonnie[/name]. I didnt let her!! Personally, I think a little girl called Bronté would grow to love her name. It can be [name]Bronte[/name], Brontë or Bronté. When I was small I thought it was Brontē
Funny, to me [name]Bronte[/name] is the beautiful exclusive beach suburb where I work as a nanny. However here it is pronounced Brontie and if it were used as a baby name here in [name]Sydney[/name] or even NSW people would more likely think of it as a place name than a literary name. I think it has a cute sound when pronounced this way and it is much nicer than [name]Bronwyn[/name]/[name]Bonnie[/name] etc in my opinion.
I like it. Strong name.
I agree with beanie. I really don’t see how naming your child a literary name could be pretentious. What’s pretentious about reading/knowing about a book? If it’s pretentious, then naming your child [name]Elizabeth[/name] should be considered pretentious also- like you’re implying that you know the [name]Queen[/name] of [name]England[/name]. And so on. That doesn’t make sense to me.
This, this, and this! Well said Beanie, well said.
