What are your thoughts on Phoenix?

I love the name [name]Phoenix[/name] for a boy. I know some people use it for girls, but to me, it sounds too harsh for girls.

Anyway, I wanted something unique, but not too trendy, classic-sounding, but still with an edge…
We are pretty sure we are going with [name]Samuel[/name] for a first name, so [name]Phoenix[/name] would be in the middle.

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name]

WDYT?
We wanted a really classic first name that has a good image, but I wanted to be a bit more creative in the middle name spot.
Any other suggestions???

I also considered [name]Matthias[/name]. The downside is I worry it’s really unheard of and complex, kinda like you’re trying too hard… but for some reason, [name]Phoenix[/name] seems to fit better. My husband likes [name]Waylon[/name], but for me that is leaning too far to the “country”-side. I love names with x’s…and nature-sounding names. [name]Brock[/name] and [name]Blaine[/name] were other considerations.

Also, since [name]Samuel[/name] means “asked of God” I like that [name]Matthias[/name] means “given by God” like it completes the name. [name]Do[/name] you have any suggestions that would go well as far as the meaning too?

I like [name]Phoenix[/name] on a boy better as well. I kind of like the overall flow of [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name].

I wouldn’t say [name]Matthias[/name] is “trying too hard” or complex, but I think [name]Phoenix[/name] goes better with [name]Samuel[/name]. [name]Matthias[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] almost looks too harsh to me, but [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] is somewhat softer.

I agree, [name]Phoenix[/name] is great on a boy. I definitely wouldn’t call it “classic-sounding,” though, and it is a bit trendy. It’s got a great sort of story around it- the phoenix rising from the ashes of its own funeral pyre is so beautiful to me. I also prefer it in the middle. I think it’s just a bit too nouveau for a first for me, but in the middle it’s great, especially with a more common, classic name like [name]Samuel[/name].

[name]Love[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] so much! i know with nn [name]Nix[/name]. I love the mythical image of the [name]Phoenix[/name]. [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] is very handsome!

I prefer it on a girl because it makes me think of [name]Phoenix[/name] from X-Men. It also works on a boy as well [name]IMO[/name]. I really like it.

Thanks!
Perhaps I should do a poll and see what others think on the top choices:

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Matthias[/name] [name]Woolf[/name]

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] [name]Woolf[/name]

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Brock[/name] [name]Woolf[/name]

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Blaine[/name] [name]Woolf[/name]

I like it in the middle but not for a first name. But if [name]Woolf[/name] is your surname then I’m not sure about having two animals in the one name.

I prefer [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Matthias[/name] [name]Woolf[/name]

I like [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name], but would prefer to see [name]Phoenix[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] because [name]Samuel[/name] is too bland for me. I like [name]Phoenix[/name] on a boy, not a girl and I think the nickname [name]Nix[/name] is super cool.

[name]Phoenix[/name] is on our list for girls, and is wasn’t until I came on Nameberry a few months ago that I realized people use it for a boy - I’ve only ever known it on girls.

That being said, I think it is usable for a boy, but I think with your last name it is very nature-heavy. [name]Brock[/name] and [name]Matthias[/name] ([name]Math[/name]-ee-us, or [name]Matt[/name]-eye-us?) are my favourites of your other picks.
