Ok so the name Wilder is pretty much at the very top of my boys list, but I recently discovered that it has very different vibes to the rest of my family than it does for me! So what are your overall thoughts on Wilder? What vibes does it give you?
To me, Wilder feels soft, and I think of it in terms of a last name (like Laura Ingalls Wilder, or Oscar Wilde) and so it feels kind of literary as well
My family thinks of it more as a word name and just associates it with wildness.
I’m going to put in a couple polls but please feel free to also leave comments on your opinion!
I see it as literary and rugged and while I do see it as closer to [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] than [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], that’s more because it feels modern as opposed to classic, but it doesn’t have the same harshness as [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
Same! Laura Ingalls Wilder is exactly why I fell in love with the name but I am realizing this is not how most people see it… Wilder is soft and peaceful to me, like laying on your back watching the sun, the tall grass swaying gently around you, with no one else around.
I like this name a lot, and I sort of see both sides of the coin here. Neither are negative to be honest! I see the literary side but in terms of the imagery this name conjures up for me, I see forests, I see wilderness, it’s overwhelming feel to me is definitely grounded in nature. For me this is the stronger association. It’s definitely more [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] than [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], but does have a softer feel to it than [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] for sure.
Thank you for this explanation! Yeah I definitely see it as a wilderness, nature sense as well. I think the vibe my family was more getting at is like “If you name a child [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and nn them [name_u]Wild[/name_u] you are just setting them up to behave badly or be stereotyped as a “wild child”” or something
