What good/bad experiences have you had with different diapers? Thank you! I’m interested mainly in disposables but comments about reusables are welcome too.
I use mostly Huggies for my son, sometimes Pampers if they are on sale. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] found that Huggies hold longer. I would not recommend Luvs. WHen [name_u]Sage[/name_u] was in size 3 they kept breaking overnight and hed be covered in these little gelly balls from the inside of the diaper, and they smell like maple syrup if the diaper breaks! If you do use Luvs I would say do not use them overnight, Huggies and Pampers are best in my experience.
We use Target brand, “Up & Up.” We find them to be very good, absorbent, good coverage, and the best price per diaper. Get a Target card, and your diapers (and any purchase) will be 5% off every time, and if you buy 2 large boxes you get a $10 gift card too.
I think for newborn or size 1 we use pampers though. [name_m]New[/name_m] tushies need extra soft
In all honesty, the Target and Walmart brands (not the White [name_u]Cloud[/name_u] or whatever they have) work really well and don’t hurt the wallet as much.
I don’t have kids, but I work at a paeds hospital and we use pampers swaddlers and I think they work pretty well! They hold a lot for overnights and there are minimal blow outs!
For the price - Luvs or Costco (Kirkland). They’re a similar, if not as good, quality to huggies and pampers. Target brand and CVS brand are also good, not sure about prices.
Grocery store brands and wal mart brands are really poor quality, less absorbant and more prone to breaking, also very papery and scratchy feeling, not as soft as others. And here they’re not much cheaper, if any cheaper, than Luvs.
If quality is your main concern- Pampers all the way. They are super soft, and have a variety of ‘fits’ to meet your babies needs (cruisers, swaddlers, baby dry).
If we didn’t use pampers I’d probably use Huggies Naturals. We used regular Huggies from Costco for a while and we had an issue with those little gel beads coming out of the diaper.
If quality is less of a concern and price is your main thing, then Costco brand is great, and I’ve heard great things about target brand as well.
We’ve tried cloth diapering and for us it wasn’t ideal. Too much work and too bulky. But usually cloth diapering mamas swear by it.
I’m willing to spend a little more on diapers for a good brand. I know all they do is catch poop, but I feel like since he wears them 24/7, I want him to be comfortable!
We did cloth (prefolds and Thirsties covers) during the day and Target Up and Up disposables at night and for traveling. I wasn’t able to find a better deal on diapers than the Target ones. Someone mentioned getting a redcard for Target to get the 5% off. You also get free 2 day shipping with that so you can order your diapers online and not have to physically go to Target.
We also tried FuzziBunz pockets and BumGenius all in ones in cloth. The absolute worst thing we tried was g-diapers. My husband and I both vastly prefer the prefolds and covers over the other cloth options we tried and will doing this again when the new baby comes.
We do a combination of cloth and disposable. We did Fuzzibunz with our first and they worked ok, but with our second and third we did [name_u]Green[/name_u] Mountain Diaper prefolds with several different brands of covers including Thirsties, [name_u]Flip[/name_u], and Rumparooz which all work great but fit differently. We also prefer the prefold and cover route with cloth diapers, over pocket diapers.
For disposables I like to use the more natural brands (they are more expensive than the regular brands). I’ve tried Seventh Generation, [name_f]Earth[/name_f]'s Best, and Honest Co. I vastly prefer Honest Co. diapers (available at Target and their website online). [name_f]Earth[/name_f]'s Best is pretty good too, but Seventh Generation are thin and not soft, I’m not a huge fan. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find something that works for your baby!
We have used and loved Pampers with both of our girls. I know a lot of kids with allergies to something in the Huggies wipes and I have sensitive skin (I can’t use tide detergent and what not) so we just avoided Huggies all together.
We also use G-diapers which are disposable/cloth hybrids. We also love them and plan on using them with [name_f]Tess[/name_f] but sometimes it’s just easier to take pampers out or for overnight or long car trips.
We have also used Honest Co. when [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] was a bit older and they worked great, are soft and super cute. I can’t say how well they hold up at night since she was mostly potty trained when we used them.
Fit and softness are the most important factor for me when picking a diaper brand. They don’t have to be super absorptive when they are little since you’ll be changing them so often anyway.
I CD but used disposables during the first few weeks until she fit into the OS and then once I went back to work, around 14 months. I liked Pampers Sensitive Swaddlers for the beginning. Then Up & Up and Luvs once she was older. I’d also use Pampers but not the Cruisers. That leaked too much.
We haven’t bought any yet but we started our registry and are going with Pampers swaddlers!
For us it was dependent on the size of the diaper. For newborn and size 1 we used and loved Pampers Swaddlers. Our little girl has used Huggies for size 2 snug and dry and for size 3 [name_m]Little[/name_m] Movers. We tried Pampers for size 3 and I much prefer the Huggies.
Pampers Swaddlers for the first month or so. Nice and soft, great absorbency.
Generic store brand for when he was pooping what seemed like all day long. Much more cost effective.
Luvs from age 4 or 5 months on till today (15 months, size 6(!!), which did the job great and we still use them during the day.
Huggies Overnight (in the purple box) are a miracle for when they start sleeping those long stretches. [name_m]Zero[/name_m] leaks with those, while the Luvs leaked at night.
We have used almost everything between our two girls (including a pack of dollar store diapers someone bought us). My absolute favorite is the Honest Company. They are just too fun, plus more natural. If I don’t want to make a trip to target or buy buy baby, I get seventh generation brand diapers. They are light brown, but my older daughter loves to decorate them (with crayons) for her sister. My third choice would be pampers, especially during the first few weeks.
You will probably get Pampers swaddlers when you are in the hospital. They are good. We used Pampers the entire time with my first daughter and we loved them. Had my second and we only use Huggies! Both are good. And someone mentioned the 5% off at Target with your red card, and they run specials on the name brand too where you can get a $10 or $15 Target gift card when buy 2. Also, like twice a year, they have the stock up section where they have diapers and wipes and laundry detergent and stuff. When those items get changed out, they clearance all of the diapers. We stock up every single time they do this.
If you need to know about wipes, we swear by Target [name_m]Brand[/name_m] up&up wipes. They are the best. We like that they don’t tear like Huggies wipes. We use them for all different cleaning purposes, not just diaper changes. Boogers, sticky fingers, car oil, they will seriously clean anything and are still gentle.
My daughter’s day care has a diaper program where you can get low cost cuties brand, so we just tried those! I think they are great quality for the price and are more comparable to Luvs or up and up than cheaper grocery store brands. Probably not as well-made as pampers or huggies but just as soft and absorant. I’ve never seen them in a store, though.
They also had their wipes recalled recently, along with a bunch of brands I’ve never heard of, but unless it happens again we’ll still use them.
My poor girls were very brand sensitive, nothing but the Pampers Swaddlers worked for keeping diaper rash at bay those first few months. [name_m]Even[/name_m] later, when friends gave us Luvs, White [name_u]Cloud[/name_u], etc. daughters would break out in rash right away! Not sure if they’re available in your region, but we like the Fry’s (Kroger) brand Comforts for [name_u]Baby[/name_u] when we’re in a rush and need to pick up a pack quick. $5 a pack and no rash, unlike the Luvs and Walmart brands. Once we received a pack of Honest Co diapers at the food bank, such a cute and soft brand! Then I saw the price at Target; of course they’d be out of my budget. Currently my son is in a big box from Sams, he doesn’t seem to be as sensitive as his sisters were. Good luck, and if money’s not an issue, definitely go with Honest Co or Swaddlers those first few months!
Pampers were the only brand that worked well for us, the other ones just didn’t fit right and would leak all the time. I’ve heard they don’t work as well for chubbier babies, mine were on the lean side.
Our daughter is 2months old and so far we have tried pampers, huggies & the Honest Co. I didn’t have a problem with any of them, but I think the Honest Co. are my favorite-I just wish they had the yellow line that turns blue when they’re wet like the other brands. It is a big help to take a peak and know for sure you have a wet diaper in those early days when you have to keep strict track of the dirty diapers to make sure she is getting enough milk.
