What comes to mind with the name

[name]Didier[/name]?

We love this name, I think it fits with our daughter’s name, but I worry that in the US it will be unpronounceable. My H is Canadian, so it will be fine there, but our kids will likely grow up in the US.

Any other associations thoughts perceptions?

My first thought is that it would be a funny name to have and I agree that it is unpronounceable in the US. [name]Even[/name] knowing the pronunciation, I think it sounds kind of silly.

I think it’s an unexpected choice for a brother to [name]Vesper[/name], and it’s not my style, but objectively I like it. To me it feels so distinctly French that I don’t think I’d use it without having a strong connection to [name]France[/name], or to honor a specific person. Gorgeous meaning though (“longing, desire”)

I’m in [name]England[/name] so can’t help with the usable in the states thing, but I love [name]Didier[/name]! It was on our list for a long time. So was [name]Vesper[/name] by the way, so obviously your taste in name is amazing. [name]Didier[/name] makes me think of beautiful dancing in cold dim rooms, light breezes in linen & lace cutains.

I live in a french community and have never met anybody named [name]Didier[/name]. I don’t think I like it. Not my cup of tea anyway. People will never get the name right. It will always be misheard as something else.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Vesper[/name]! [name]Didier[/name], it just confuses me. I can’t find any positives for this name, sorry. Especially living in usa.

[name]Vesper[/name] is lovely but I don’t like [name]Didier[/name].

Unfortunately, when I first saw it I though “Didler” or “Didlier.” This seems like a name that kids could easily make fun of. But I live in the Midwest, and it might not be an issue in other areas. [name]Love[/name] [name]Vesper[/name]!

I think of [name]Didier[/name] Drogba… definitely not anywhere near my list of favourite players, so my immediate reaction is not fantastic.

I’m a soccer fan so I recognize the name. I like it but I was raise around a lot of French speakers so people wouldn’t have trouble pronouncing it

I am from the US and I would be nervous to have to pronounce that.

I’m in the U.S., and I know how to pronounce it, but I don’t really like it. Can’t put my finger on why, except that it reminds me of diddly, as in diddly squat. Maybe that’s just a [name]Texas[/name] thing though. To my southern ears, it sounds a bit pretentious, but I also realize it is a common name in other cultures. I do like the meaning. As far as pronunciation goes, the sound is simple enough that you would only have to correct people once, though kids trying to be mean might mispronounce it on purpose.

I grew up in the States and started learning French from a very early age, but I agree that it would probably be a challenge for speakers in the US and kids might make fun of it for reasons mentioned above. [name]Even[/name] in French news and literature, I haven’t found it often.

Grew up in midwestern US, now a west-coaster. I would pronounce it DIH-dee-ay on sight. [name]Hope[/name] that helps

I’ve always found [name]Didier[/name] to be a bit boring as a French name, tbh, but I honestly love [name]Vesper[/name] and [name]Didier[/name] as siblings! Very striking. I think [name]Didier[/name] has an appeasing sound and look, though. I’m not sure why I never really liked [name]Didier[/name]–it seems much more usable than a good many other French names I can think of, actually. I usually wouldn’t go for [name]Didier[/name], but I really love it for you.

well, honestly, it makes me think of diddle–which is what my grandmother called peeing when I was little, lol.

But, I did know someone with this name once (well, in a roundabout way). I had a teacher who adopted a child named [name]Didier[/name]. He would talk about him, so I felt like I knew him.

My SO and I are both football/ soccer fans and [name]Didier[/name] Drogba with all of his diving/ flopping about completely ruins this name to me. I would take that with a grain of salt as we are avid [name]Man[/name] United fans and have a strong dislike of pretty much anything that was once related to [name]Chelsea[/name]…

I do love [name]Vesper[/name] though

In all honesty I would probably like the name if it wasn’t for Drogba.

Thanks for all this input ladies! I hate to hear that it’s kind of unlovable, but I love the honesty! This is why I love this site. I am really quite perplexed on boy’s names, nothing strikes me in the heart the way [name]Vesper[/name] did.

Hahaha, YES. Excellent footie player technically but wouldn’t hesitate to make a dirty tackle. No where near my favourite either. But because of him I know how to say [name]Didier[/name] so at least that’s something.

[name]Just[/name] say football  That’s its name!

Whew this one is just terrible. It first made me think of dildo. Then P. Diddy. I would keep looking.
