What do we think of Ana spelling?

[name]Just[/name] wondering what everyone thinks of the spelling [name]Ana[/name]? Sibset would be MaeLee (goes by [name]Mae[/name]) and [name]Lucy[/name]. Thanks ladies!

[name]Ana[/name] would be pronounced ah-na, but I don’t know if that’s what you’re going for or not. I’d be very surprised to see sisters named [name]Mae[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Ana[/name]; I’d assume an [name]Ana[/name] to be either Hispanic or at least non-English. [name]Anna[/name] would fit perfectly, though; plus it seems a lot more classic.

It’s definitely pronounced [name]Ana[/name], and if you’re not Hispanic or Italian I’d go for [name]Anna[/name].

A very close friend of mine from school had an eating disorder and would use pro-[name]Ana[/name] or just [name]Ana[/name] to positively refer to her anorexia… I think it’s a fairly common way to refer to anorexia, Wikipedia’s listing for [name]Ana[/name] even mentions “a slang term for Anorexia Nervosa”.
I would avoid this spelling because of the association. [name]Anna[/name] carries none of these connotations, and is a classic spelling that fits well with her siblings.

I think [name]Ana[/name] makes people confused about the pronunciation. I have heard it three different ways so it you want the usual sound of [name]Anna[/name] I would use [name]Anna[/name].

Isn’t [name]Mae[/name]'s middle name [name]Ann[/name]? If so, I personally think another name is best.

Good to know…Thanks ladies! In doing more research I saw that there is a pronunciation difference that I was unaware of. I agree that while [name]Ana[/name] is very pretty it doesn’t quite flow with my other DDs…Guess we’ll stick with [name]Anna[/name]! And I wouldn’t want to have her be associated with anorexia that now that I think about it, I know of a song called [name]Ana[/name]'s Song (I think) that is about that–no thank you! Thanks again! You are all a wealth of knowledge!
