So my boyfriend and I’ve decided we like the Name [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] [name_m]Orville[/name_m] for our son, Last name [name_m]Moore[/name_m]. So [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] [name_m]Orville[/name_m] [name_m]Moore[/name_m]. His daddy is an xtreme bronc rider from the deep south of Mississippi and [name_m]Orville[/name_m] is also his middle name. It Means “[name_u]Golden[/name_u] City” in french. What do you guys think? keep in mind this little boy will be a cowboy in training i personally find the name very fitting. Thanks for the input everyone!
[name_m]Cotton[/name_m] [name_m]Orville[/name_m] sounds like a cotton-based product youd find at super markets to me
If you want to use [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] I would chose a more “normal” middle name like [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] etc
A non word name would be fine with [name_m]Orville[/name_m]
Honestly it’s quite a lot for a boy. What if he doesn’t turn out to be a cowboy? It doesn’t feel well-rounded enough to suit a variety of personalities, which you never know until they’re older. I like the idea of a more regular middle, or if [name_m]Orville[/name_m] is a must, a more regular first. I always try to think of the kid and not our expectations of them.
I think it’s adorable!
Sorry, I highly dislike [name_m]Cotton[/name_m]. I’ve seen it used once on a slovenly redneck.
I like it, but there’s no guarantee your son will be a cowboy.
[name_m]Cotton[/name_m] Rosser is a famous old cowboy who owns the Flying U rodeo company, he breeds bucking bulls and broncs. It doesn’t have to be a “redneck” name but i guess i see if you saw some crazy lookin redneck named cotton it might be unsettling lol i know 2 individuals named [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] and their both totally successful and totally badasses. lol
I like [name_m]Orville[/name_m] a lot. [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] not so much. I don’t have any particular image of it, just not a fan of the sound.
I guarantee you he will be. I’ve been a working cowgirl since i got my first pony at age 4 and his father is a Pro Bronc rider as well as a horse trainer. We travel the country for rodeo season every year. Both my family and his own ranches, one in Mississippi and one in [name_u]California[/name_u]. Its our whole entire life. Our whole entire existence. He’ll be training and competing in gymkhana by the time hes four or five. I wouldn’t force him to be a cowboy but all hes every going to know is the cowboy lifestyle like mom and dad. We’re both educated, his daddy has a business degree, I’m sure he will be a well rounded intelligent little boy, but cowboy he shall be. I cant imagine him just not wanting to participate and be like mom and dad, he has to come to the rodeos anyways, all the other little boys and girls compete and train, he wouldn’t want to be left out i imagine. Especially if hes like his daddy, this year he won four buckles, a saddle and a title of Rookie of The Year!! woohooo lol wow i just ranted haha im proud of him as you can see lol sorry
I hope you’re prepared for the possibility that he might want to do something else.
It reminds me of [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] Mather, the Puritan preacher who supported the [name_u]Salem[/name_u] witch trials. So this is what I picture - big powdered wigs. It also reminds me of [name_m]Liev[/name_m] Schreiber’s character in the Scream movies, and “cotton mouth.” I think [name_m]Orville[/name_m] is better than [name_m]Cotton[/name_m].
lol I think people are just trying to say that you’re naming a child, not a cowboy. So if he ends up being a nerdy scientist who opposes rodeos or something, his name will not be a source of embarrassment.
Agree. The world today is far more globalized today than it was just a generation ago. He’ll know about other lifestyles and he may decide that he prefers them. Either way I doubt the name will stop him to explore other options.
I agree with previous posters that it may be a little too much. I would use either [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] or [name_m]Orville[/name_m], but not both. But if you are happy with the choice and don’t find other options that you like as much, go ahead.
I really dislike [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] as a name. [name_m]Orville[/name_m] is ok.
It sounds like [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] will fit well into your community. Personally, I’d go with [name_m]Colton[/name_m] “[name_m]Cotton[/name_m]” [name_m]Orville[/name_m] or otherwise use [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] as his nickname. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_m]Orville[/name_m] as a first ([name_m]Orville[/name_m] [name_m]Cotton[/name_m]) might give him a more professional first name if he chooses to use it. That said, I have a friend whose father has gone by Bubbles since high school (it was a football nickname). And he rocks it. So if your heart is set, then I think it’s a fine name with lots of character already built in.
This blog is interesting:
I think it’s adorable!
Sorry don’t like [name_m]Cotton[/name_m] for a boy at all, especially for an adult. Its just not a name in my opinion. [name_m]Orville[/name_m] was the name of my favourite ostrich puppet when I was a kid (in the UK), so I only associate this name with that…although you did explain it comes from the dad…which is nice in that aspect.
Good luck with boys names though!
