I think that [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] would definitely be unique and stand out choice. The nickname Tolly is cute, but I doubt he’ll want to go by that when he is older. I’m not loving the alternative nicknames that I see. Maybe [name_m]Art[/name_m]?
Thanks for the feedback! I agree, unfortunately Tolly is a nickname that a boy is likely to grow out of.
I actually like [name_m]Bart[/name_m], but most people immediately think [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]. I don’t mind [name_m]Baz[/name_m] as an occasional nickname, but I don’t see it as a name someone might use every day. I’m not really a fan of [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Arty[/name_m]
P.S I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] and [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] from your sig!
I think it is just too much name. I am not a fan of the NN’s for it either. Can you flip it to a MN? [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] sounds nice!
I love many longer names for boys - [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] etc…so I don’t really have a problem with the length as some Berries do. [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] is an underused gem to me.
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] - I like the unexpectedness of this pairing. I voted for this combo on your poll.
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - now there’s long and then there’s too long. This falls into the latter category.
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] - since [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] is similar to the word “homes” this is too similar to Barnardo’s Children’s Home (orphanage) and St [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]'s Hospital in [name_u]London[/name_u].
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Rex[/name_u] - this sounds very British and that’s fine by me. [name_f]My[/name_f] second choice after [name_u]Finn[/name_u].
It is too long for me. [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is a fantastic middle name though. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite! Yes, it does make me think dinosaur. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
Not a fan of [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], but I do love [name_m]Bart[/name_m]. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] I really nice though.
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is my favorite. Personally [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] is a mouthful, I find it a bit difficult to pronounce. Maybe [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Bart[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_m]Bart[/name_m], [name_m]Finian[/name_m] [name_m]Bart[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]! And I really like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u], and [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. I don’t think it’s too much for a child, especially with nn Tolly. And I like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] (I love [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] too), but I’m still struggling to get over the fact [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] is so surnamey (if that makes sense). I think I’d prefer [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m], but then I like anything [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] :P. I’m absolutely loving the boys names in your signature btw.
I don’t think [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] is too much, not at all. It may look like it is because it’s so long, but it doesn’t sound too heavy or ‘trying too hard’ to me. I like the sound of [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] and I think if not an unpleasant personal association that puts me off it’d be on my list.
I like all of your [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] combos. All flow well, but each makes me picture a different person. I would say [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is my favorite, though.
Thank you so much for all the feedback, I really appreciate it!
I see the appeal, but I’m really not a fan. Partially I think because it reminds me of [name_m]Bart[/name_m] from The Simpsons (his full name is [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]). [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Berthold[/name_m], [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m], or [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m]? They all get you to Tolly.
I have [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] on my list too, though I worry people would just confuse it with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
I think it would be a very heavy name for a person, particularly a child, adolescent and young adult, to carry around. It’s got a nice look and sound to it I think, but perhaps it might become a bit of a burden at some point. I’m not sure.
That said, of your options, I like [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] best. Maybe you could call him by the middle, [name_u]Finn[/name_u], or use [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] as a middle name instead. Otherwise, [name_f]Bae[/name_f] or [name_u]Bo[/name_u] are nickname options that would work on an older child, teen and adult.
Oh I love the idea of [name_u]Bo[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], I hadn’t thought of that before, thanks!
