I really like the name [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. A lot of people say it is very trendy, but I plan to move back to [name_f]England[/name_f], and it is not a very common name there. It is also unisex, and I am not sure if it is the right choice for a girl. The middle name will be either [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], so that will be feminine. The name meaning differs as well and I am not sure what to do. I really like the name, but I am afraid that it is not good for a girl. I feel like many people have a bad assosciation with the name or that it is too popular. I was between this and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] but I like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] better.
My other choice is [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. I like the name and the meaning but not the nicknames. And most likely she will be called [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I also know that [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] is a lot more popular in the UK than [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. I do not want my child to stick out all the way, but I also want something that is not like most people.
I do not want my child to constantly be thought of as a boy or to be thought of negatively. But at the same time, I want her to have a name that is unique and that will not make her go by a nickname. I am really unsure what to do. I have also considered combining the names. [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
I honestly like the name [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]. It is my understanding that it is more often used for a girl than a boy anymore…?
If you don’t like nicknames in general, this might be hard to avoid with [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], too–[name_u]Kenzie[/name_u] & [name_m]Mack[/name_m] are just 2 popular nn’s I’ve heard many times off the top of my head for this name.
I think [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] flows nicely.
I do really like [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] as well, but as you stated, she will probably be given a nn as it is quite a long first name.
Personally, I would not be concerned about people thinking [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is a boy’s name. While it is unisex, any more when I see/hear it, my first thought is “Girl”. My dad actually suggested the name [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] for me back in the 80’s, and it’s funny, because I was named [name_u]Jaime[/name_u] for about a day before my maternal grandmother deemed it as being ‘too masculine’. So what did they name me? [name_u]Leslie[/name_u]. Which is another “unisex” name. Except I have never personally met any male named [name_u]Leslie[/name_u], and to me, it sounds very feminine.
That’s my two cents. If you love the name [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], go for it!!!
I love the name [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and I don’t think it’s all that unisex. I know it’s classified as unisex but I would NEVER give this name to a boy! It’s way too feminine and I have only ever known girls with this name who usually end up going by [name_u]Kenzie[/name_u] which I also love! I also love [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and again feel it’s much more feminine than masculine. I do know of a boy named [name_u]Riley[/name_u], but again, I hate the name for a boy! I happen to love most unisex names (or what people consider unisex) but I typically think they are girls’ names.
I also really don’t like the name [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. Maybe it’s too many "a"s or too many syllables, but it’s just not pretty to me.
Ultimately, I’d say go with your gut and don’t worry about what others think. If you like a certain name, use it! All of your options are solid.
I never knew that [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] was a unisex name. I’ve always associated it with a girl. I’ve always taken a liking to it. I’m impartial to [name_u]Kenzie[/name_u] as a nickname but I love [name_f]Mazey[/name_f]/[name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. I think that [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is sweet, but predictable as a middle name. I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but prefer it as a first name because as a middle it’s in the same ball park as [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f], as more dated filler middle names. [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] is quite interesting but I find it doesn’t flow quite as well as [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I’ve never liked [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], because it always felt so overused and common to me. I love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a stand-alone name, but it just gets worse to me when I think up possible nicknames-- [name_u]Stacy[/name_u], [name_u]Asa[/name_u] (I love this, but only for a boy), [name_f]Sia[/name_f], and so on. If you like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] better I say go for it. I don’t know of anyone who thinks of it a boy name.
Good luck mama!
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] is miles prettier than [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], in my opinion.
If you’re worried about her being called [name_f]Ana[/name_f] (you just don’t like [name_f]Ana[/name_f]?), I would suggest picking out another nickname and enforcing that one, or just saying that you only use her full name. It’s not that hard to say (and it’s gorgeous), people will get used to it.
Other nicknames you could try besides [name_f]Ana[/name_f] would be:
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_u]Ash[/name_u] (nms, but you might like it)
[name_f]Sia[/name_f]
[name_u]Stacy[/name_u]
[name_f]Tasia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Tasha[/name_f] or [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-shuh)
[name_f]Tia[/name_f]
That’s all I can think of, but you get the picture
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is pretty much boys only over here. It’s also still sort of associated with the chavvy sport clothing brand (although that is McKenzie). I don’t care for it, but I definitely consider it all boy in [name_f]England[/name_f]. I have never met an [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] (which I love).
