What do you honestly think of the top 10?

It’s probably been done before, but I’ve always wanted to ask this. Besides the knee-jerk “it’s too popular/common”, what is your real opinion of these 10 names?

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

I am trying to imagine that they are not at all popular. Now that I have that firmly in my mind the only one I like is maybe [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I like the [name_u]Abby[/name_u] or [name_u]Abbie[/name_u] option and the Biblical story behind [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].

I like word/nature/surnames so this list really isn’t my style.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]…Never was a fan, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is better
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]…Not bad, cute, but prefer [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_u]Ember[/name_u], other [name_f]Em[/name_f] choices.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]…never was a fan, [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is nice, though not my fave. I like just [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]…Like it more than [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is a cute nn. This ranks higher for me than other names on this list. [name_f]Livie[/name_f] is also super cute. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is as well with more of a classy and modern and vintage sound.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]…never loved this, never hated it either. [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], pronounced avva[name_u]Lynn[/name_u], I love though.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]…it’s ok…not my fave [name_f]Em[/name_f] name
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]…seems boring to me, no offense
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]…used to love this. in a few years I will probably prefer this on a boy
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]…always thought this was cute, simple, easy to spell and can understand the appeal even though it is not my preference. I like [name_f]Maya[/name_f] a bit more.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]…this would be the winner for me if the z was an S. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my fave top ten name, followed by [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

Like RainDay, I’ll try to look at them objectively:

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]: I don’t like this frilly version, I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is much sweeter
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: I actually really adore [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: kind of like with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], I like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] much better without the -a.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]: I really like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], I think it sounds lovely and I like the nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f]/[name_f]Livy[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]: I don’t like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t ask me why, but I just don’t.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]: Hm, I’m torn on [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I do love most Emm- names, so I would say I harbor some love for [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], it reminds me of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Adams[/name_m], and so it sounds colonial. But I dislike [name_u]Abby[/name_u] very much.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]: I really dislike [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. A lot.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]: I think [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is adorable and lovely. I like it better as a nickname, but I still like it on its own.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! It’s eternally splendid.

That makes, out of the top 10, 6 thumbs up and four thumbs down. Honestly, the popularity doesn’t make me dislike a name, it just makes me resent the overuse of the name. So while I do love those six, I doubt I would ever use them.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – Beautiful and lovely. I just picture an adorable, dark-haired little girl who grows up to be a smart sophisticated woman. Great meaning to the name and can call her [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] if she is more spunky.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] – Another sweet name, though it still has a touch of old lady to me (in a good way!). I just picture someone sweet and caring. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the sound of this! (The first Cabbage Patch I ever got, way back in 1984, was named [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I’ve loved it ever since.)

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] – It’s a pretty name but somehow is a mouthful for me, and I usually like long names. It just always feels overdone when I hear someone using it. It also has a princess vibe to me, which can be good or bad.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – Never did like this. This may sound weird, but when I hear this name I think “mealy-mouthed”. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know why, because I’ve never known a bad [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I just really can’t handle the sound of this name.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] – [name_m]Just[/name_m] within the last week I have moved this name from “really do not understand its appeal in any way” up to “well, okay, I guess it’s not that horrible”. Still don’t get it, but I don’t think it’s as ugly as I did before. Not even sure why I disliked it so strongly, but…

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] – Twenty-five years ago I read a book set in the late 1800s with a protagonist named [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and I thought it was the sweetest old-fashioned name I ever heard. I fell in love. By the time I realized that the [name_f]Emily[/name_f] wave was sweeping the nation I was tired of it and saw it only as a name for a little girl that won’t grow up. I do still think it’s pretty, but I am over it.

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] – It is a sweet and pretty name, but doesn’t wow me.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u] – I liked this name for a few weeks back in the mid-90s. That’s really all I have to say about it. That and I’m shocked it’s still so high in popularity.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] – Friends named their daughter [name_f]Mea[/name_f] 12 years ago and I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever heard. Fast forward to real use and I dislike it a lot. I just think it sounds narcissistic (ME!!-uh). Maybe I’m dumb, but it’s what I think. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is still a major fave though!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] – I love this gorgeous, classic name. I am so tired of most of the names like this, but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (or the even prettier [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]), is still just amazing to me. [name_f]Love[/name_f] love love!

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I love this name and have done since I read a book about a girl ‘[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]’ who lived on the streets in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]. I think it’s a beautiful and strong name.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I love the simplicity of this name and it’s resemblance to one of my favourite names ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - My grandmother was [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], which is the version of this pretty name, which reminds me of a dancer, which I prefer.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - was on my list when I was in my teens studying [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], now I prefer the simpler and more botanical sounding [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - meh - I find it a little dull
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - it’s okay - I have a 9 year old cousin called [name_f]Emily[/name_f] who is very cute and I don’t think I’d care for the name much if she was called something else.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like - always thought it looked like [name_u]Abby[/name_u] Girl
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - really don’t like at all. It’s like someone’s trying to give their child a ‘spunky’ name but it’s just ugly [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - prefer it pronounced [name_f]Meeya[/name_f], don’t hate it but don’t love it. Wouldn’t name my own child this.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Classic and beautiful, a name for girls and women of all ages, don’t like NN [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] one bit, but love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Also attracted to the spelling [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].

It’s hard for me to ignore the popularity of a name because that’s a huge factor for me, but I’ll try.
I actually like [name_f]Sofie[/name_f] much more than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a really nice classic that you can’t go wrong with even if it is so safe it’s a bit boring imho.

I do not like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], or [name_f]Mia[/name_f] just because I find them to be too insubstantial, way to short and flimsy.

I can’t stand [name_u]Madison[/name_u] because it has that surname as a first name going on with the -son ending and I think it’s really annoying.

I think I like them all to varying degrees bar [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. Like lieseysmom I can’t really see why its so popular. All the other names (except maybe [name_f]Mia[/name_f]) feel very classic and are unlikely to fall that far out of fashion any time soon but [name_u]Madison[/name_u] feels a bit dated already.

I quite like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (but much prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]), [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] are okay. I don’t like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], but [name_u]Abbie[/name_u] is cute and I really dislike [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. As for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I can never decide if I like it or not.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I think its a very pretty name with a great meaning. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though its wildly popular now its been used as a name for hundreds of years and I see it as a classic

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I think its a sweet little name, however every [name_f]Emma[/name_f] I’ve ever met has been anything but sweet. Its weird because when I hear [name_f]Emma[/name_f] I think of a sweet shy little girl but when I meet one they are always not what their name conveys.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I’ve always preferred [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] but I don’t mind it. I see it as a classic and even though it reminds me of Twilight and is wildly popular in my state I try and keep in mind that at least its not a trendy, made-up name and it was the name of a queen.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I think its so beautiful and it would definitely would be on my shortlist if it weren’t ridiculously popular here.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - For some reason this name has always rubbed me the wrong way. I’ve just never liked its sound. I love [name_f]Eva[/name_f] though.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - Like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], this name sounds so sweet but all the Emilys I’ve met besides a few were either mean or annoying and obnoxious. I like the sound, but I can’t shake the bad associations.

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - Its a nice, biblical name. I would never consider it but I have nothing against it.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear [name_u]Madison[/name_u] I picture a mean, snobby popular girl. I just hate the sound and I really wish people would stop using it.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - Its a cute name but it always sounded a little juvenile to me. Its adorable on a little girl but I find it hard to picture on an adult.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] it. Its beautiful, classic and elegant and has tons of awesome nicknames. I just love it.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

It is hard to look at these and ignore the popularity… but I’ve always loved [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It is classic and has a bazillion awesome nicknames. I still have a soft spot for [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], though I prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is nice. I like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

I do not like, even if they weren’t popular, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_u]Madison[/name_u].

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] are okay.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - A gorgeous name. I feel it is very versatile and ages well.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is both beautiful and sweet. I feel [name_f]Emma[/name_f] ages well.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] are both gorgeous. They both age well.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is beautiful. I prefer [name_f]Livia[/name_f] (it is on my short list, [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]). I love both names but obviously they are both very similar and I had to pick which I cared for more.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - Sweet and pretty.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is sweet and beautiful also.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - I go back and fourth with my feelings about [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. At times I love it and at other times I feel neutral.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - [name_u]Madison[/name_u] is okay. I am pretty neutral on the name.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is very sweet. I have [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] on my short list.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is beautiful. A very versatile name that ages well. I prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – It’s nice enough. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is so pretty and I prefer it to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] – My daughter’s name. It’s not my favorite name ever but it was absolutely fitting for her. I love how classic and simple it is.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] – So over it. I do like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – I don’t understand the appeal of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], all I see is olive!, but [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_f]Livy[/name_f] are cute!
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] – I prefer the similar [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is nice but overdone with the middle name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] – I prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] feels sort of dated.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] – Nice enough but not for me.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] – SO OVER IT ON GIRLS! Please go back to the boys again, soon!
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] – I really like it.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] – My favorite from the list. I love all of the nickname possibilities. It helps that it’s a family name for me!

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. My brother has always liked this name so, as unlikely as he is to ever become a father, I’d be happy to have a niece named [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], sweet.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I just don’t really like any of the -bella names. Overly princessy. I greatly prefer the Scottish [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. It’s not so prissy and frilly.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - It’s a good name, but I used to like this a lot more than I do now. The ‘olive’ part bugs me now. I love the nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f], though.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - I definitely understand the appeal of this one, but it’s not something I would pick.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - It’s very nice. I’m rather bored of it, though.

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - I have always, my whole life, irrationally hated this name. I just don’t like it at all.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - I hate [name_u]Madison[/name_u]! It’s just not attractive to me at all. My niece was almost named [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. Her so-called father is a total loser, but he did one nice thing for her in her life and that was preventing my sister from giving her this crumby name.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - Meh. I don’t get the appeal.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] versatile classic. I prefer the [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling, though. I don’t like the nickname [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] much. I’m not sure why that one is the most popular when you could be [name_f]Beth[/name_f] or [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] or [name_f]Bess[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] or anything else really.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]- I prefer the [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] spelling, but it sounds very soft and girlish to me, I like it.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]- a bit plain. I’m not sure why its huge. I used to like it a lot, but not so much anymore.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]- It’s sweet, though I like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] better. Kind of neutral.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- I love the ‘[name_f]Liv[/name_f]’ nickname!
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]- I can understand why it’s big- simple, easy to spell and say, still somehow frilly and girly. I don’t like it that much, though.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]- Eh.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]- I’m not a huge fan of this, but its’ OK. [name_u]Abbie[/name_u] is cute.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]- I can’t answer on this one, because it’s my name. I can tell that it is not favored by the general public, though (“I hate [name_u]Madison[/name_u]”, “it’s so ugly”, etc.)
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]- I despise this. It seems trendy and the name itself just kind of irritates me.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]- I adore [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Definitely my favorite. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Verona[/name_f] (NN [name_f]Evie[/name_f]) is on my list.

While I wouldn’t use any of them personally, here is my objective take:

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - actually very pretty. I like the soft sound (and I adore the similar(ish) [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f])
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I’ve never loved this. A bit boring.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - gorgeous. I’m so sad that it’s so incredibly popular (I blame Twilight). I really like it.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I’ve known too many for me to appreciate this name, but it does flow very nicely. Not a fan of any of the nicknames though.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - quite like this, although I prefer [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - again, I know far too many, but I can see the appeal. Somehow, I find [name_f]Emily[/name_f] quite boring but love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - I’ve never been a fan of this name.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - really dislike. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is better.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f], for some reason.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - a classic. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it!

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - I’m always torn with this, because I always seem to prefer some international variant. Sometimes the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], sometimes the Polish [name_f]Zofia[/name_f] or [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], sometimes the Russian [name_f]Sonja[/name_f], or the Spanish/Italian [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], but never just [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. It seems bland compared to the others, haha! I do love the meaning, though, and I like the name in general. I just don’t think I’d ever use it, even if it wasn’t so popular. I could see myself maybe using [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Zofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Zosia[/name_f] as a middle, though.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I have it as a middle on my long list. I picture a very particular type of girl wearing the name [name_f]Emma[/name_f], but it is very sweet and simple. I can see why it caught on. I just prefer other [name_f]Emma[/name_f]- forms ([name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], predominantly). They just seem more open, more friendly. Less snooty and more kindhearted and honest-at-heart. I do love [name_f]Emma[/name_f], though, and if I ever decide to KEEP [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] will be on my short list. I like it–I just don’t love it.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I like it, and for years, I loved it. I thought [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] was the most beautiful name in the whole world when I heard it in 2005 for the first time (well, for the first time not associated with history… I don’t know why I didn’t notice it when I learned about [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Columbus[/name_m]?). I still think it’s gorgeous and so lush and feminine and romantic, but I prefer the simpler, innocent, charming [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I guess I just love the [name_m]French[/name_m] air of [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - erm, love. That’s about it, haha. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s on my top 3 and I adore her to pieces. The Shakespearean ties (although I like [name_f]Viola[/name_f] much more as a character), the ties to peace, the nns [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Liv[/name_f]/[name_f]Livy[/name_f]… she’s perfect. I would love to have an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] one day.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - I don’t know, I can see the appeal, she’s lush and spunky and romantic and sexy–but she seems way too exotic and sexy for me, for some reason. I can’t say why? I also get this feeling of complete trendiness, when people exchange vowels for "A"s to ensure it gets an “uh” sound instead of another (like [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] as opposed to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Alena[/name_f] as opposed to [name_f]Elena[/name_f], Avangeline as opposed to [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]–to make sure they don’t get OH-livia, EE-lee-na/EE-lay-nah, EE-vangeline, etc.), and I get the feeling that that happened with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] to [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. I’m 98% sure that that impression is wrong, but I still can’t shake the trendy feeling it has, and I know that’s why. Besides, [name_f]Eva[/name_f]'s on my list and I adore her, and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] just seems sort of … second rate?–compared to the lovely and timeless [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - I’ve liked [name_f]Emily[/name_f] for years, and I still do–I’ve just preferred [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] for a while. [name_m]Even[/name_m] before I was tired of hearing [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful, sweet, classic name, though, and I would be so happy to meet an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (or even a [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Emilie[/name_f]?), but I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] better these days…

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - it was my first favorite girls’ name. I remember writing a story in fifth grade, and the main character was [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_f]Abbi[/name_f], and I remember thinking that it was the most beautiful name ever and I would never grow out of loving it! haha. I kept chanting [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Abbi[/name_f] all over the place for about a month straight, until I got to the point where I was sick of saying it, lol. After I gave it a rest, I still really liked it, but it’s not been a huge favorite since. I don’t really like [name_u]Abby[/name_u] anymore (it feels really bland to me), and I’m not sure I could ensure just [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I’ve just grown to love a lot of other names more.

[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - I remember starting a story in high school, I think? And two of my characters were named [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_u]Jadon[/name_u]. I thought they were the coolest, haha. I’m not terribly fond of the whole unisex-names-on-girls trend anymore, and I’m so sick of [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] by now. I do think it has an attractive sound, though.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I like it. It’s simple. It’s sweet, and no matter how much I hear it, I still find it darling and rather unexpected for a popular name. I wouldn’t use it alone–if I used it, it’d be for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]–but I would be happy to have a little [name_f]Mia[/name_f] in my life. It also reminds me of The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Diaries, which I love.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - not a massive fan of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], and many of its nns, and many of its international variants, too ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eliska[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Lisette[/name_f], even [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]…). It’s a beautiful, timeless, never-boring name. I just don’t like the “Z”. Some people say it makes it stronger, but it just makes [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] less interesting and more of a boring classic. I adore the softness of the “S” in [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. I generally am a huge fan of “Z” names, but I just don’t like the “Z” in [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]… I never have liked it.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is the name I like the most. I also like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - I don’t (and have never) care for any of them. I find them a little boring.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - They’re okay, but they just don’t do much of anything for me. I also find them a little boring.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - When I first heard this name I thought it was really pretty, but now this name is just so over done, it just doesn’t do anything for me anymore. Same goes for [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I know it isn’t number one, but I feel like I’ve heard this name (and [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] & [name_f]Bella[/name_f]) more than any of the others.

I would never use any of them as a first name, but I’d be open to using a few of them in the middle.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is a classic name with a great meaning. I can see why it’s popular. It sounds nice and classy. Crosses cultural lines. I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] as a nickname maybe…
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - Another classic name. I don’t think [name_f]Emma[/name_f] will ever really be “trendy.” It’s a name that will always be in style.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. Sometimes I think names with 4+ syllables are too much. I don’t really like [name_f]Bella[/name_f] either.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - And another classic. I already have a positive association with this name so it would be hard to say anything negative. I like how [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] are potential nicknames.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - I personally prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Ida[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - I grew up in the 90’s and it felt like an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] invasion. I knew soooo many [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s. It’s a nice name, but overused a little now.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - Biblical. Nice nicknames. Classic.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] - Can’t stand this name. Another one of those names that was super popular during my time in school. Are they [name_u]Madison[/name_u]? [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]? [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]? [name_f]Mady[/name_f]? [name_f]Maddi[/name_f]? [name_u]Madison[/name_u] A.? [name_u]Madison[/name_u] B.? [name_u]Madison[/name_u] C.? I think perhaps the reason I don’t like this is because it is definitely overused. I also don’t like the sounds in it. A mad son? Mad and son just don’t feel very nice in a name to me, I guess. Being mad isn’t really a good thing. It’s sort of the same issue I have with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. I don’t like how the word “lie” is in it.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] - Cute. Simple. Sweet. It reminds me of the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Diaries.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - I’m actually very happy to see this in the top 10!!! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is such a classic name, perhaps even the little black dress of names. It has always been popular, which I like. Absolutely timeless. Not a fan of the nn [name_f]Liz[/name_f] or [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], but I do like [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], etc.

All in all, the top 10 aren’t bad names… I would just never use them because of popularity. I can definitely understand why they are so popular, though.

I love classic names so I could see myself using [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (more a middle name) and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (again, middle).

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] was a favourite for a [name_m]LONG[/name_m] time but now I’m kind of fed up with hearing it. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] has recently peaked my interest and I’m liking it more and more, same goes with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] although I don’t think I’d actually use either.

I have to say I was so disappointed when [name_f]Zara[/name_f] Tindall’s daughter was announced as a [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. As much as I expected something not traditionally royal, I was hoping for something with a little more spunk. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] has never been one I’m fond of, same with [name_u]Madison[/name_u].

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is just a little boring for me and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] reminds me of girls at school who were just not nice people (I’m not saying all Olivias are nasty but the ones I’ve known were so…).
