[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
This is a question for all the female users here.
What do you like about your first name, what don’t you like about your first name?
Would you ever consider changing your first name?
My first name is [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. What I like about is that it has a spanish/italian touch and therefore sounds a bit more extraordinary than many other names in [name_f]Austria[/name_f].
What I don’t like is that people constantly think my name is [name_f]Izabelle[/name_f] (especially Americans :D)/[name_f]Isabell[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
PS: Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong category, but this is the first thread I’m posting so I’m not quite sure …
My first name is [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and I love the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection to my name, The Merchant of [name_f]Venice[/name_f]. I love that he essentially created my name, or at least that spelling was first recorded by him. I actually quite like my name, in general. As silly as it sounds, I feel like it suits me (if that makes sense) and I can’t imagine being called anything else (my parents considered [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and I’m so glad I got neither of those).
I don’t like how popular it is/was, especially during the years around the time I was born. It was number one (I think) in the UK in 1993 (the year I was born) and at school there were 6 [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]'s in my year. I also hate how most people go to call me [name_u]Jess[/name_u] rather than [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], I much prefer my name in its full form.
I love [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].
My name is [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. I love my name, my mother was going to call me [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and I’m so glad she didn’t. The only thing I hate about my name is the fact that some guys and my brother call me [name_f]Britney[/name_f] Spears. I use to adore it back when I thought she was the bomb, lol.
I like it because it’s nothing crazy or nothing bland. In my opinion. & It goes well with my brothers names, [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_m]Brandon[/name_m].
My name is Vasiliki and i must tell you that i hate it . I hate that is the 5th most popular name where i live .
the only good thing is that it honors my grandma .
I have consider it to change it to [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f] but my parents are going to kill me
So, I do not like my name. I don’t hate it, but I never grew in to it and became an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I go by [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], which I adore!
My parents do not like the idea of me changing my name, but I promised I kept [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle. ^^
If I’m outside my country, no one knows how to pronounce it… [name_m]Even[/name_m] after I’ve told them my name, they continue with mispronounce it - but maybe it’s their accent that makes it sound like they’re butchering my name.
And I hate how people in my country keep calling me Bjørk… I know it sounds really, really similar, that it’s only the ending that is different, but it’s not my name.
And I hate how similar my sister and my name is. Her name is V**bjør*, not cool. (Sorry, I can’t have Sis to google her name and find this xD)
But I love it. It’s not very popular, though I can see it’s gaining popularity. The meaning means bright, shining… I just adore it
My mother suggested to me that if I’m ever going somewhere else to live, that I just could use a nickname. My name just has no nicknames… Blah. And then I have to train myself to react when I’m not called by my own name. But that isn’t an issue right now
My name is [name_f]Felicia[/name_f] and I have always liked my name.
What I like:
It is not an unusual name but I’ve only known one other my whole life and she spelled it [name_f]Phylicia[/name_f].
It means happiness or luck (which I have a lot of in my life!)
My nickname is [name_f]Fe[/name_f] (pronounced fee) which I love and actually feel like is the name I was always meant to have. When I talk to myself, I call myself [name_f]Fe[/name_f] lol. I know a lot of people probably would hate this nn but it’s so me.
What I don’t like:
When I introduce myself, I usually have to say my name twice because people think I’m saying [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], but it’s not that big of a deal.
What I don’t mind:
I live in an area with a lot of Spanish speakers. When saying/reading my name, they pronounce it [name_f]Fa[/name_f]-lee-see-ah (rather than [name_f]Fa[/name_f]-lee-sha) which I actually think is even better lol
I like my name fine. There are many names I like more, but none that I can imagine myself being called. Except maybe [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. Not that I necessarily like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] better than [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], but more than one person has randomly told me I look like a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], so maybe it would suit me? Ha! I dunno.
I’ve never really cared for the way my dad chose to spell my name. I considered at one point changing it to [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], and he told me to go ahead and do it, but when I got married and had the chance (since I was going through the process of changing my last name anyway), I just couldn’t go through with it. I guess I’ve become attached to my dumb “y”.
I try to justify it to myself that it’s not the same as all those other “y” names because it’s a generally accepted spelling, it isn’t a modern change (at least one of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] VIII’s wives also spelled her name with a “y”), and my dad’s family is from Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Belarus) where the letter “y” is used in many names. Kateryna is the Ukrainian version of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], so lets just pretend my “y” is meant to honor my heritage, okay? LOL!
I have an Irish name but live in [name_f]England[/name_f] and the spelling is not at all intuitive so it gets butchered a lot! But… this doesn’t really bother me. i love my name, its meaning and its history (it’s the name of an Irish goddess and a character in Irish mythology, I think) so correcting people all the time isn’t that much of a problem. I’m quite a shy person so it’s great to have an unusual name because it makes you more memorable!
First off, this thread is a great idea and I love your name, [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].
My first name is [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]. I love it because it really is a beautiful name, with great history, and awesome namesake: [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], goddess of the moon and hunt herself. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] means “from Kynthos”, which is where Leto gave birth to [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]. I love mythology, so it’s a major bonus point on why-I-love-my-name. I also love the moon connection. I am a cancer, named after moon goddess’ epithet, ruled by moon, and having moonstone as my birth stone (I was born in [name_u]June[/name_u]. My birth stone is [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], obviously, but various sources say moonstone too :)). Not that I am really into horoscope, I just love the connection here. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] suits me. I do use many nicknames and a pseudo too ([name_f]Luna[/name_f]), but there is no way I will ever change my name.
And… I hate it because it is so popular. Many of you berries will say [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]'s dated or attached to the 60s, but I’m a 90s kid. In [name_f]Asia[/name_f] “dated” is never an issue. I got many namesakes around my own age. Plus, a lot of misspelling issue here. Got too many of it until I learn to ignore it anyway.
My name is [name_f]Faith[/name_f] and I love it! It doesn’t rhyme with anything so I never got teased in school, it also has good connotations, so nothing bad can be connected to my name really, except if you hate people who have any kind of faith I guess… The only thing that annoys me sometimes is that in school, sometimes teachers would say variations of “I have [name_f]Faith[/name_f] in this class!” and I went to a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] school, so whenever anyone brought up faith, people would look at me. I didn’t mind it at all though. Another thing that I realized a few years ago is that my initials are FML, which is pretty bad, but it’s okay. I love my name and highly recommend it!
My name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I love everything about it except how popular it is with little kids. I swear I hear a mom call for her [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] every time I leave the house. However, I love the four syllables, nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f], and I never had another [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] in my class. Of course being born in the 90s, my nickname is a filler
I like my name, but I hate it when people call me “[name_f]Caren[/name_f]” lol. Also, my name is super easy to spell, but people still manage to spell it wrong all the time. My favorite misspelling is Earn. Haha!
I love the name [name_f]Erin[/name_f] but I’m shocked that people spell it wrong! I guess there’s no name that won’t be spelled/pronounced wrong at least once
What I like most about it, is it’s a traditional classic, and it’s very wearable. What I mean by that is, I had a choice of nicknames for my “fun side” - I chose [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] - and then I’ve got [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as my formal, “grown up” name.
What I don’t like about it, well to be honest, there is nothing I dislike about the name itself. However, I don’t like it when people pronounce it with just two syllables (MAHR-gret), I mean what do they think the second A is there for?! It’s MAHR-ga-ret - grrrrr!
