What Do You Picture From These Names?

I have seen other posters post similar threads like this. What image and personality does each name make you envision? I think this will help us narrow it down a lot. I am pretty firm believer that a name choice has a big effect on you personality so I want to see what you berries think will be the personalities of these names.

[name]Alaia[/name]
[name]Hania[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Leilani[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Amaya[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Jordana[/name]
[name]Neela[/name]
[name]Paisley[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Cynthia[/name] - I am almost certain this one is on its way out though!
[name]Selena[/name] - DH suggested this to replace [name]Cynthia[/name] since it also has a [name]Moon[/name] meaning I am still deciding whether or not I like it but feel free to go ahead and leave opinions on it

Thanks everyone! We are so close I can almost taste it

[name]Alaia[/name]- My initial thought is how is it pronounced? There is a exotic quality to it.
[name]Hania[/name]- I like this. I picture it belonging to someone creative. Not afraid to be different.
[name]Jasmine[/name]- This is okay. I think of a dark haired girl. [name]Princess[/name] [name]Jasmine[/name] from [name]Aladdin[/name].
[name]Leilani[/name]- Again I think of a pretty dark haired girl. Gives off a Hawaiian vibe. Maybe a surfer girl?
[name]Aurora[/name]- Very pretty. Very princessy. I automatically think of a demure blond girl with green eyes. Shy but sweet.
[name]Amaya[/name]- This makes me think of a very confident spitfire type. Not afraid of anything or anyone.
[name]Anastasia[/name]- Dark hair, brown eyes. Feels Greek to me. Maybe because the only [name]Anastasia[/name] I knew was a wonderful Greek woman.
[name]Jordana[/name]- Hmm not sure… Spunky, and maybe a bit athletic?
[name]Neela[/name]- ???
[name]Paisley[/name]- Sorry, Toddlers and Tiaras ruined this name and I don’t even watch the stupid show. All I see is a little girl dressed to nines with a face full of makeup and false teeth.
[name]Eliana[/name]- Sweet, pretty, and very studious
[name]Cynthia[/name]- I picture an older woman with this name. Maybe I just know too many middle age Cynthias. I cant picture it on a baby.
[name]Selena[/name]- I prefer [name]Serena[/name], but the name makes me think of a very confident little girl. Maybe a little bit of a 'tude, but not bad. [name]Just[/name] someone who knows what they want.

[name]Hope[/name] this helps.

[name]Alaia[/name] - love it! I picture a free-spirited, happy go lucky, sweet, helpful little girl.
[name]Hania[/name] - I am not sure what I really imagine. It feels like quite a heavy name to me, I sort of imagine a little girl who’s a bit socially awkward, sorry.
[name]Jasmine[/name] - there was some actress on Disney channel several years ago named [name]Jasmine[/name]–I think she was in that movie with [name]Demi[/name] Lovato and the [name]Jonas[/name] Brothers, haha, I don’t remember, but that’s who I automatically think of, that and this teenager I know named [name]Jasmine[/name]. She’s a nice girl, helpful with little kids (I know her through a youth inner-city outreach program), but she’s a bit uppity and focused on herself.
[name]Leilani[/name] - I love it! I get much the same image for [name]Leilani[/name] as I do for [name]Alaia[/name]. Maybe a bit sweeter as opposed to free-spirited, but still really happy and cheerful and smart.
[name]Aurora[/name] - awww. I can’t help but grin when I read this name, I just adore it to bits. There’s this [name]Aurora[/name] that’s in one of the stories I’m halfway through writing, so I can’t help but think of her when I hear [name]Aurora[/name]. In my story, she’s two, absolutely adorable, with whispy (atm, haha) blond hair and lively blue eyes. She’s happy and sweet and her twin brother (how fitting! hahaha) is her best friend… she’s such a mama’s girl, but when her mom finds the love of her life, [name]Aurora[/name] kind of falls for [name]Jacob[/name], too, and he is just her world. She’s a bit shy, but around [name]Jacob[/name], she comes alive, and she just absolutely adores him, and they become practically inseparable.
[name]Amaya[/name] - Lively, sweet, a bit sporty, but also artistic.
[name]Cassandra[/name] - I’m not sure, really. The only thing that comes to mind is “dated”, although I’m not sure why. It’s still a consideration for a lot of people.
[name]Anastasia[/name] - I think of someone with brains and bravery, someone very striking and beautiful and strong, has something to stand up for but always stands up for the right thing.
[name]Jordana[/name] - I think of my friend whose name is [name]Jordana[/name]. She’s a bit shy, smart, talented–she has every potential in the world, but she still lives in the shadow of her father’s expectations, sadly. Hopefully, your [name]Jordana[/name] wouldn’t have those insecurities, haha. But still, a really happy, talented, smart, good person.
[name]Neela[/name] - I’m not sure. Someone a bit flashy and full of herself, but I’m not sure why I think that. Maybe because that’s how the one [name]Nola[/name] I met was like, and [name]Neela[/name] and [name]Nola[/name] are pretty similar.
[name]Paisley[/name] - Sweet, down-to-earth, happy, cheerful. It has a bit of a trendy vibe to me, but I still like it a lot. I think a [name]Paisley[/name] would be likeable.
[name]Eliana[/name] - aww. Sweet, charming, a bit shy, maybe a mama’s girl. Smart. I sort of picture a Jewish girl, but I don’t think she’d have to be Jewish.
[name]Cynthia[/name] - I think of my friend from high school with the name. [name]Even[/name] then, it felt really dated to me. She was very bookish, shy, didn’t have a lot of friends, was a bit socially awkward, but she was so funny, haha, we worked together at our private school one summer and we laughed, like, the whole summer long.
[name]Selena[/name] - while I think it has sass and sweetness and a bit of a regal feeling, thanks to similar names like [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Helena[/name], I can’t really see past [name]Selena[/name] Gomez. I like [name]Serena[/name] a lot more, but I am sort of starting to see [name]Selena[/name]'s appeal.

[name]Alaia[/name] - [name]How[/name] do you say it?
[name]Hania[/name] - Hyena? Sorry…
[name]Jasmine[/name] - [name]Princess[/name], [name]Flower[/name], Girly-girl, Exotic
[name]Leilani[/name] - Hawaiian, Earthy
[name]Aurora[/name] - Soft, Feminine, Slightly hard to say
[name]Amaya[/name] - Spunky, [name]Non[/name] Caucasian
[name]Cassandra[/name] - Quiet but kind
[name]Anastasia[/name] - Russian princess,
[name]Jordana[/name] - Tomboy
[name]Neela[/name] - My first thought was [name]Nala[/name] from [name]Lion[/name] [name]King[/name]… no idea why.
[name]Paisley[/name] - Artsy, Singer
[name]Eliana[/name] - Sweet, Confident
[name]Cynthia[/name] - Blonde, girly
[name]Selena[/name] - Singer, [name]Moon[/name]

[name]Alaia[/name] - I see a fun loving girl, that is drop dead gorgeous
[name]Hania[/name] - pretty much the same as [name]Alaia[/name], I see her being a supermodel in her future though
[name]Jasmine[/name] - sweet and smart, one of the nicest girls you know type
[name]Leilani[/name] - a lot like [name]Jasmine[/name], but very outgoing and popular
[name]Aurora[/name] - frilly and girly, loves everything pink!
[name]Amaya[/name] - energetic and fun, but also has a peaceful and serene quality to her.
[name]Cassandra[/name] - bubbly and out going, probably a cheerleader
[name]Anastasia[/name] - smart and strong, a load of friends that could not live without her
[name]Jordana[/name] - The girl everyone loves and wants to be around
[name]Neela[/name] - quirky and smart, probably a doctor
[name]Paisley[/name] - fun, fun, fun! A real life of the party but not to the side of wild!
[name]Eliana[/name] - energetic with the perfect smile
[name]Cynthia[/name] - a little snooty and over confident, knows what she wants and goes after it
[name]Selena[/name] - I see [name]Selena[/name] Gomez first, I guess I picture someone who is always calm and composed.

I have a pretty good idea of what your children will look like so I left off physical characteristics

I get positive images from: [name]Hania[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Leilani[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name] partially, [name]Eliana[/name], and [name]Selena[/name].
[name]Alaia[/name] is pretty neutral.

[name]Alaia[/name] - shy, sweet, writes a lot of poetry as a teenager
[name]Hania[/name] - she was homeschooled
[name]Jasmine[/name] - a little bit bossy, popular though
[name]Leilani[/name] - spunky, interested in sports
[name]Aurora[/name] - high maintenance, popular, still manages to be sweet, if nn [name]Rory[/name] she ceases to be high maintenance
[name]Amaya[/name] - very smart, possibly wears glasses
[name]Cassandra[/name] - popular, likes pony tails, sporty but still girly
[name]Anastasia[/name] - classy, long dark hair
[name]Jordana[/name] - interested in artsy stuff, slightly exotic
[name]Neela[/name] - skinny, not a lot of friends, grows up to be an accountant
[name]Paisley[/name] - cute, doesn’t excel at anything in particular, likes to have fun
[name]Eliana[/name] - tall, smart, very studious
[name]Cynthia[/name] - perky, fun, a gymnist
[name]Selena[/name] - funny, friendly

[name]How[/name] can you tell someone was homeschooled just by their name? Many of my friends were homeschooled and they have very normal names and led very normal lives. All of my nieces are or will be homeschooled and there is nothing about their names that says “I’m homeschooled”. There is a very good chance that I will be homeschooling these children because my husband’s career forces us to move around. I don’t see how a name can tell you where a child goes to school!

[name]Alaia[/name] - pretty and outgoing. This name feels lively to me.

[name]Hania[/name] - Sweet and gentle.

[name]Jasmine[/name] - a popular, dark haired girl. Outgoing…maybe a little obnoxious.

[name]Leilani[/name] - sweet and quiet.

[name]Aurora[/name] - I had a friend growing up with this name, so i picture her. She was really smart and very much a tom boy. Great girl.

[name]Amaya[/name] _ I think of a sweet, gentle natured girl.

[name]Cassandra[/name] - well, this is my name, so I picture myself, lol. I’m tall, dark haired with a retro/rockabilly style, I love dresses and girly stuff and I love school / learning. Most people said bubbly - I’m a people person, I work with elderly people and I love my job, but I don’t think I would consider myself “bubbly” haha. I also go by [name]Cassie[/name] most of the time, only work and my mom call me [name]Cassandra[/name], it’s nice separating business / work / professional time and my home life, honestly.

[name]Anastasia[/name] - I think of a blond, quiet girl. Serious and studious.

[name]Jordana[/name] - I think of [name]Jordana[/name] [name]Brewster[/name], who is beautiful. I also picture an artsy / quirky girl.

[name]Neela[/name] - My friend married a girl with this name, though she spells it [name]Nila[/name], I think [name]Neela[/name] is easier to get this pronunciation, though - she’s a really sweet girl, friendly and caring.

[name]Paisley[/name] - I think of toddlers and tiaras - the name is ruined. I also have a hard time picturing it on a person. It’s a pattern…

[name]Eliana[/name] - I think of a bright, outgoing girl, probably dark haired.

[name]Cynthia[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my dear friends is [name]Cynthia[/name]. Beautiful French girl, dark hair, striking eyes, she made me love the name - quirky / fun sense of style.

[name]Selena[/name] - I think this is beautiful. I think it fits a lot of different personalities and looks and it’s got a great meaning to it.

You sound offended. If you’re going to be offended, perhaps you shouldn’t ask what people picture when they hear a name. [name]How[/name] can you tell a child has blonde hair, green eyes, like sports, is energetic, probably going to be a doctor etc. from a name? You can’t. You asked what we picture when we hear the name. When I hear the name [name]Hania[/name], I imagine she’s been homeschooled. I find it interesting that you may homeschool them, so obviously I wasn’t far off. For the record, I was homeschooled off and on throughout my life, so I have nothing against it.

Perhaps if you are going to be offensive you should not comment. I am not offended but someone who saw this thread and was homeschooled was offended and notified my of this. She and I both found the comment to be very anti-homeschooling and very negative towards homeschooling, so I am not alone in this. It seemed very much like a stereotype to me. A name can convey energy or sound smart to certain people and sound like something completely different to others. I just don’t see how a comment about schooling fits into personality which is what I asked for. This is like saying that someone named [name]Nevaeh[/name] will never go to college, there is no way to tell that by a name. However, my mental image of [name]Nevaeh[/name] maybe be someone that parties or it could be someone very studious and smart. I just don’t see what kind of mental image equals homeschooled. [name]Do[/name] you think she would be like you since you were homeschoooled?

You seem to be offended by everything, honestly.

I think your images match mine very well! That is so cute that you are a [name]Cassandra[/name]! I figured by your username that you were a [name]Felicity[/name] with the nn [name]Flick[/name] I don’t know that any of my children will be bubbly either haha! I am pretty sure we would call our [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Cassie[/name], I have toyed with [name]Sandra[/name] but I don’t like it as much as [name]Cassie[/name]. I love to hear from people about their own names, [name]TY[/name] for sharing

My [name]Angel[/name] baby was [name]Felicity[/name].

[name]Felicity[/name] is a beautiful name! It’s one of my nieces name as well. We usually call her [name]Cricket[/name] because she always jumps around, but her mom originally intended to call her [name]Flick[/name] I am sorry too, I don’t mean to seem offended at everything! I don’t have a filter though at all haha! I am really sick with this pregnancy too, as well as stressed about finding the right names, so I think that is contributing to me being more sensitive than I usually would be. I don’t mean to seem like a crybaby though and I am sorry if I have come across as one!

I dont think your coming off as a crybaby. I’ve just been on forums for a really long time and it used to bother me when someone said something that seemed “off” to me, but just remember that this is the internet - you don’t know these people and probably never will- we also have so much anonymity on here that people say things they wouldn’t normally say in real life. To you - your pregnant and hormonal - I get that, I’ve been there and it really sucks and I’m an emotional person to begin with, I was a hot mess when I was pregnant - to you, this feels personal, to people replying to you, it’s not and it’s totally not an attack on you at all. When I look at a list, I’m almost totally objective. I don’t connect the name with a person, to you it feels personal because it’s for your babies, the names have an attachment to someone / something close to you. When you ask strangers on the internet, your going to get every single possible opinion out there - it can be hurtful if you choose to take it that way, it can also be very helpful.

That’s just my 2 cents and how I view naming forums.

I’m not being offensive, at least not intentionally. You took offense at my opinion of what I picture when I hear a name. [name]Hania[/name]. If it would help, I can give you a more in depth thought on the name. You seem to be seeing homeschooled as a negative thing. It’s not. However, it isn’t mainstream. The name [name]Hania[/name] is not mainstream. It’s very pretty, I quite like it in fact (I’m pronouncing it Haw-nee-a), but it’s a name I imagine a family who has chosen to homeschool would use. I wasn’t wrong about that, either, since you said it’s a possibility. There are a million reasons to choose or not choose to homeschool your child, but this isn’t a forum for that. It’s a public forum where people talk about names.

Perhaps she would be like me. I love the outdoors, I’m creative, I’m incredibly funny (really I am), I’m studying to be a teacher, I was homeschooled, and I’ve had to grow a thick skin because of it. You tell people you’ve been homeschooled and you get put it the “different” category- that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I am offended by very little, which is perhaps why I’m so puzzled that you keep questioning me about my opinion on a name. I don’t see how a comment about schooling is any less about personality than the comments on names bringing to mind hair color, or future career choices.

I won’t post anymore in here, because we seem to be having a communication problem and that’s fine; it happens sometimes. I hope I haven’t ruined the name [name]Hania[/name] for you, because it’s a lovely name. [name]Hania[/name], [name]Jordana[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name] are my favorites.

[name]Alaia[/name] - tall, likes telling jokes.
[name]Hania[/name] - a girl with blue/grey eyes. Quiet, intelligent.
[name]Jasmine[/name] - I think of the flower. Maybe a girl with long, dark hair. I have been told I look like a [name]Jasmine[/name] before, lol. And on a separate occasion, I’ve been told I look like a [name]Yasmin[/name].
[name]Leilani[/name] - I picture [name]Hawaii[/name], like the pretty volcanoes and the ocean.
[name]Aurora[/name] - I picture the [name]Aurora[/name] Borealis
[name]Amaya[/name] - brown eyes, brown hair
[name]Cassandra[/name] - someone very clever
[name]Anastasia[/name] - long red hair, quite fiery but in a good way
[name]Jordana[/name] - a river
[name]Neela[/name] - I know a [name]Neela[/name], she has short black hair and dark brown eyes (her family are [name]Indian[/name]).
[name]Paisley[/name] - a dress with that pattern
[name]Eliana[/name] - a little blonde haired girl who likes jumping.
[name]Cynthia[/name] - that doll that [name]Angelica[/name] from Rugrats had.
[name]Selena[/name] - the moon

On a side note, “she was home-schooled” strikes me as a neutral statement. It’s not pro-home-schooling but it’s not anti-home-schooling.

[name]Alaia[/name] - knows what she wants, motivated, maybe a tad dominating
[name]Hania[/name] - shy, smart, sweet natured
[name]Jasmine[/name] - independant thinker, sweet yet with sass at times
[name]Leilani[/name] - very caring and nurturing, sweet
[name]Aurora[/name] - quirky, fun and clever, quick witted
[name]Amaya[/name] - soft sensitive nature, takes life to heart
[name]Cassandra[/name] - popular with a mean streak
[name]Anastasia[/name] - upper class, tries hard, pleasant
[name]Jordana[/name] - rich and sophisticated, smart, but spoilt
[name]Neela[/name] - homely but pleasant
[name]Paisley[/name] - a wildcard type
[name]Eliana[/name] - bubbly and versatile
[name]Cynthia[/name] - smart but perhaps a little snooty
[name]Selena[/name] - sophisticated but fun

Thinking about your naming style I have come up with 2 new suggestions:
[name]Alina[/name]: bright and beautiful
[name]Amara[/name]: eternally beautiful

Thanks everyone! There have been some great opinions here and they have helped a lot! We are getting closer and closer!
