For a long time I wantes a semi-detailed opinions for my signature that isn’t from my mom. But being a lazy person I couldn’t achieve that via Rank the previous signature thread. So here it is, a thread I didn’t want to make, what do you think about the names in my signature?
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you combine the singles and would you change combinations?
Are Turkish/Western names stand out in any way?
Would you want me to display other names from my lists that I didn’t before?
I have so many questions and I would love to hear your answers
Almila Sereday - Almila feel like a mouthful, I think it’s the Almi sound. Sereday I may just be in love with though, is it a real name?
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - sweet in combination. I find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] to be a bit blah, but I really like [name_f]Primrose[/name_f].
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] Mariye - [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is ok, I prefer [name_f]Alya[/name_f]. I’m not 100% on how to say Mariye.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Alara - [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is very pretty, Alara is nice but I don’t love it. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] Alara is a lovely combo.
Mavera [name_m]Arin[/name_m] - not for me at all, sorry. [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f] is more my speed. Mavera sounds like someone saying 'My [name_f]Vera[/name_f] with a thick Yorkshire accent to me, although that may not be a bad thing I suppose. And [name_m]Arin[/name_m] just makes me think of a feminised version of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]/a creative spelling of [name_f]Erin[/name_f] (though [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and [name_f]Erin[/name_f] are unrelated names).
Solin Minay - I’m just not quite feeling it. [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] ([name_m]Sol[/name_m]-ay) [name_f]Mina[/name_f] would be my alteration.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] - I’m so/so on [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], not bad but I knew one once who was horrid and it’s just put me off. [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is lovely.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] - very normal compared to some of your other names. I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - and here is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], a perennial favourite of mine. Not so keen on [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], it just doesn’t do it for me. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is gorgeous though.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - it’s ok
Asena - ‘Ass In Ya’ is all I see, sorry.
[name_m]Ilya[/name_m] - nice!
Ipek - makes me think of Ipecac which makes people throw up
[name_f]Mayda[/name_f] - I prefer the spelling Meida, but I like the sound of the name
[name_f]Maysa[/name_f] - not as pretty as [name_f]Mayda[/name_f].
Suvolta - not feeling it at all, sorry.
Tomris - sounds much more masculine to me. But I sort of like it.
Tuana - very nice
Tulu - feels like a nickname.
Umai - ‘You my what?’ seems like an easy joke, but not necessarily a bad sound.
Yulyu - another one that’s a but of a mouthful
Aybars Tuldila - I think Aybar would sound nicer, the s on the end just makes it sound a little odd. Tuldila sounds more feminine to me, but I don’t think I like how it sounds in general, sorry.
Erdenay Oktar - not sure about Erdenay at all, sounds like ‘err, dunno’ in an accent to me (sorry, I feel like this is a theme). Oktar is very cool, sort of like [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] but different. I think I prefer [name_m]Oskar[/name_m], but Oktar still works.
Erem Talu - I like Erem, not so sure about Talu.
Erendiz Oben - both names are cool, and I like them together
Regulus [name_m]Soren[/name_m] - [name_m]Soren[/name_m] Regulus would be my way round. Regulus is a bit much, but cool as a middle name -
and an admirable character - [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is great!
[name_m]Severus[/name_m] Arcturus - you have a thing for Slytherins? I don’t view Snape as enough of a hero to even consider the first name [name_m]Severus[/name_m]. Arcturus is cool, does make me think of the Pokemon Articuno though (appropiately an ice pokemon). Overall I think it’s a bit much.
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] Salazar - [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is a great name! I’m hopping it’s not after Crabbe, but it might be… You really do have a thing of Slytherins, Godric feels cooler than Salazar to me, although I’m not a huge fan of any of the founders names.
Andariman - a lot going on there, possibly too much.
Artuk - it’s ok, another one that feels a bit pokemon-y though.
Aslan - the religious symbolism alone ruins it for me.
Atilla - not a bad name, but I had a chicken called Atilla the [name_f]Hen[/name_f], so it’s all I think.
Balamir - I prefer Boromir or Faramir (LOTR characters) Balamir isn’t awful though.
[name_m]Hakan[/name_m] - nice
Kayra - feels much more feminine, but not bad
Rua - cool
Soysal - makes me think of soy sauce. Sorry.
Teoman - pronounced Toe-man, like Yeoman is pronounced [name_f]Yo[/name_f]-man? Not keen.
You have a lot of super unusual names, where did you find them?
Unusual names happens when you are Turkish and they aren’t the weirdest from the much. Sereday is a real name! It is a rare name, it means jewel, ornament. Mariye will be Ma - as in [name_m]Mark[/name_m] - Ri as in [name_m]Rick[/name_m] - and Ye I am terrible at spelling things. As sound in Asena is harder it is like the Astrology, e is the same as a apple and na is Nano it is more like a nuh sound.
I don’t know what a Ipecac is but Ipek means silk and I is longer like see. Tulu can be a nickname and a stand alone I have seen Tuluhan also. Umai is Oo-mai so not a you sound.
Aybars is ay+bars actually it means moon leopard so s can not go. I also thought Tuldila was a girl name first but it is a historical male name. [name_m]Den[/name_m] is like Denmark or [name_u]Danny[/name_u] and ay is ai. I have a thing for Slytherins and [name_m]Severus[/name_m] is my favorite character! I love all Slytherins though, even Marvolo. Yeah Andariman is really long but I love the meaning. Un-duh-ri-man will be best I can spell it. Aslan doesn’t have an obvious religious symbol since it is more associated with Alpaslan for us. Teoman is actually [name_u]Theo[/name_u]-man, e before o so it isn’t Toe-man thank God.
I’d rate them all but I find some just very confusing and it’s hard to express my opinion on them, sorry!
Almila Sereday - I really like Almila, it’s melodical and I adore nicknames [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_m]Amil[/name_m] etc On the other hand while Sereday’s meaning is very nice I just hear “[name_m]Saturday[/name_m]”
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - I really dislike [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s sound, I honestly cant see why people find it pretty, no matter the lovely meaning. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is adorable! Much more interesting than plain [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] etc
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] Mariye - [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is nice and I prefer its sound to [name_f]Isla[/name_f]'s, but personally I find it too simple, Mariye just sounds like [name_f]Maria[/name_f] (mah-ree-ah) with a villager’s accent to me
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Alara - I’m not a big fan of r’s to be honest. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is very pretty though, and so is its meaning. I dont like Alara’s sound, I would prefer [name_f]Elara[/name_f] which has a nice science related meaning to it as well
Mavera [name_m]Arin[/name_m] - This combo doesnt flow all that well since Mavera ends in an A and [name_m]Arin[/name_m] starts with an A as well. Mavera [name_f]Erin[/name_f] sounds much cuter as well. I find Mavera a little too much, a little too serious I suppose. [name_f]Maven[/name_f] or [name_f]Maren[/name_f] maybe?
Solin Minay - Solin is very adorable and I like its nicknames but Minay just sounds and looks made up
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] - [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] is beautiful! I prefer just [name_u]Rowen[/name_u]/[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], but this is also nice, and while I hate [name_f]Helen[/name_f] due to how popular it is where I live, it sounds nice with [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] - Very pretty and classy as a combo but I find [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] too common
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is a little better than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but it sounds bad with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] in the middle in my opinion. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] would be very charming
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - Too simple imo
Asena - Pretty but nms
Dolunay - A little too much, and I cant tell if this is a boy or a girl
Tomris - Very cute!! I really like this. It does sound like a boy name because of the [name_m]Tom[/name_m]- part, though I dont exactly dislike that
Tuana - I definitely prefer [name_f]Tiana[/name_f]
Tulu - I can only see this on a dog
Yulyu - [name_f]Yulia[/name_f] is much prettier
Erem Talu - Erem is very pretty and I could see it on a girl as well, but Tulu feels incomplete
Regulus [name_m]Soren[/name_m] - Regulus is way too out there but I adore the light and sweet [name_m]Soren[/name_m]!
[name_m]Hakan[/name_m] - I like this because it reminds me of a Nordic name I really like, plus its sound is fresh and modern
Kayra - 100% female to me
Rua - Same as Kayra but I could actually really like this on a girl!
Ooh day in Sereday is is more like [name_m]Ty[/name_m] in [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]. But with a D. Well Mariye is a variant of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and I can understand the accent part. I am sad Mavera [name_m]Arin[/name_m] doesn’t flow well because I started to love it alot. Heh. Minay isn’t made up, it means thousand moon, [name_u]Min[/name_u] means thousand and ay means moon in Turkish. Dolunay is a unisex name that is more used as a girl name. It means full moon, Dolun/Tolun means full. Kayra and Rua are historical male names although Kayra is unisex now.
Almila Sereday -I also find Almila hard to say, but it is pretty. The name sounds nice together.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - Very pretty.
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] Mariye - I love both names separately, but I don’t like the rhyming endings. I know in Arabic Mariye/[name_f]Mariya[/name_f] is pronounced mar-ree-yuh, as opposed to yeh, @Elifsu, is it the same in Turkish? @emmievis [name_f]Mariya[/name_f] is actually the Arabic pronunciation of [name_f]Maria[/name_f], she was a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] coptic convert to Islam.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] Alara - Not really a fan of [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but I like it here. Alara is on my list!
Mavera [name_m]Arin[/name_m] - I like it, is [name_m]Arin[/name_m] pronounced Are-wren or are-reen (with the two ees make the long E sound?)
Solin Minay - Really cute combo.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] - Not a fan of either of these names.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] - It’s ok, [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is just so popular and I know a lot of Safiyas.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - Ditto with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], and it seems like a nickname. I don’t like the double ‘o’ sounds in both names.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t really have an opinion on this.
Asena - I recently discovered the name Asuna ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-sun-nuh) and am really loving it, so this seems kind of odd to me. Like it’s the wrong pronunciation. It is nice though.
Dolunay - NMS.
Iklima - Very close to the male Ikrima.
Incilay - Is this in-sill-lay?
Oylum - I’m pronouncing this Oi-lum which is a bit tricky.
Suvolta - Pretty,
Tomris - I like it, but the [name_m]Tom[/name_m] beginning kind of throws me off the name.
Tuana - This is very pretty.
Tulu - Seems like a nickname.
Umai - I just think Umi, mother.
Yulyu - Very hard to say.
Aybars Tuldila - Aybars reminds me of Baybars, would you be willing to use that. I think it has a little more substance. I don’t think the name has the best flow.
Erdenay Oktar - I’m guessing the day is more of a dee/D, I don’t like the ending of Erenday with vowel beginning of Oktar.
Erem Talu - Handsome.
Erendiz Oben - Ohh I like it.
Regulus [name_m]Soren[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Soren[/name_m], but not Regulus. I don’t like the -s S- so close together.
[name_m]Severus[/name_m] Arcturus - The names rhyme too much, sounds like a movie Villain.
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] Salazar - Nice, I really like this one.
Andariman - Interesting, would put it in the middle.
Artuk - I like it.
Aslan - Also on my list.
Atilla - I really love this!
Balamir - Nice.
[name_m]Hakan[/name_m] - A little awkward to say, not horrible though.
Kayra - Is this kai-ruh or kay-ruh? I can see kai-ruh on a boy.
Rua - I like it.
Soysal - Nice.
Teoman - Tee-O-man or [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-o-man? Are any of those correct? I’m not really sure about this one.
@jalila13 Mariye is said with Yeh in Turkish, like most Arabic loan words. And yes Mariye is after Hz. Prophet’s wife! My favorite tbh.
[name_m]Arin[/name_m] is with reen long E sound. I do not know about Asuna but Asena can be spelled differently as Asana/Ashina/Ashila. Yeah Oylum is pronounced as Oi-lum. I do like Baybars but I do not like adding bay in front of names tbh. Which is a common thing in Turkish. Kayra is [name_u]Kai[/name_u]-ruh not [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-ruh. [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-o-man is more correct. Interesting you liked Andariman, how would you combine it?
Ok, that is interesting with the yeh vs yah. I actually have [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] in my sig for the prophet’s wife. I know a lot of people with the name, and it isn’t my favorite, but I really admire her. I would use it as a middle only. Rumaisa is after a sahabbiyah, and [name_f]Hajar[/name_f] is for the prophet [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m]'s wife, who I also admire.
I think I would go short names with Andariman, some examples below.
@jalila13 Short first names do make sense since Andariman is really long. I don’t have much religious names besides Mariye. [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] is is Hatice in Turkish and I know many of them too. Maybe I can consider Kantura - prophet [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m]'s third wife - as a middle too? I prefer religious names for boys actually. I once had Erem [name_m]Ibrahim[/name_m] Talu at my signature.
