Literary and quirky. I like it pronounced Baz-ul

love it! just don’t use a mn that’s too stuffy – keep it fresh.

I always think of [name_u]Basil[/name_u] Fawlty, and therefore it’s still a bit old feeling for me. But I can appreciate its vintagey, naturey charm for others :herb:

I prefer the [name_u]French[/name_u] [name_m]Basile[/name_m] (ba-zeel)

[name_u]Basil[/name_u] looks exactly like the spice I think it is? And that ruins it for me

It’s ok. I’m not a huge fan but I wouldn’t think twice hearing a little boy called it. I much prefer baz-uhl over the US pronunciation of bay-zuhl though.

I always question if it should be bay-zul or bah-sul so that makes me not like it as much for fear that I’ll pronounce it wrong

I love [name_u]Basil[/name_u]! I prefer the pronunciation bah-zul when I’m referring to it as a name. I would love to meet a real Basil!!

This is a name that I love on paper but the pronunciation of it can be tricky ! I have a name in constantly correcting and while I love my name it can be annoying to have to correct people .

I love [name_u]Basil[/name_u]! I think it’s so handsome and fun!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it, definitely one of my top choices! Initially I feared the mispronunciation, but I’ve come to realize that as a name, I’ve only ever heard the one pronounciation (bah-zuhl). So in my mind that is the only way the name should be pronounced and anyone who pronounces it differently is just wrong  I’ve also seen someone who used the name stress in the birth announcement that he was [name_u]Basil[/name_u] “Baz” and that seems to have helped immensely.

I love this name! And this is my topic pick for a boy. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are literary fans and we’re considering using the alternate spelling [name_m]Bazil[/name_m]. This is for 2 reasons.

  1. We live in the states where most people would assume we are talking of the herb and not the bah-zul pronunciation.

  2. Our Italian last name is way to close to Ziti.

We LOVE this name and don’t want to pick another. Hopefully we can find a good last name to balance it out?
