[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all: I am curious to know your thoughts on the name [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. What is your default pronunciation of this name? Have you met any [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]'s? All opinions welcomed. Thank you
Hey I would most likely pronounce [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] like Lie-rah or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-rah. I find the name to be quite reminiscent of [name_f]Kyra[/name_f], which is one of my favorite names. In all honesty, I think [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is one of those names that would go with another name; examples include [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. That aside, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] sounds gorgeous on its own too.
I really like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]! I would pronounce it like [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] without the C (Leer-ah) or like [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] with an R instead of an L. It’s a great name
I pronounce it Lie-rah. Makes me think of the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Compass! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.
I love [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]! Only as LIE-ruh, but I adore the character, and the cool, feisty, magical, slightly wild feel she gives it. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]'s one of my absolute favourite names.
I like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. I say it LEER-uh. I prefer [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] over [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], but I like both. I think [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] has a nice vibe. I like that it is short, simple, and still uncommon.
I say Lie-rah and my immediate association is the His Dark Materials series (the movie the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Compass is a loose adaption of the first book) which I love so it’s a very positive association.
I like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] a lot, but I’m not sure I would use it. I’m not sure, at this point, whether it can be separated from the series, and, as a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], there are some things regarding the author (and the series in particular) that puts me off, and if you want more details, feel free to message me, but religion can be a touchy subject and I don’t want to offend anybody.
I like that it reminds me of music (a la “lyre”), and it seems like a very lyrical, poetic, and yet strong name. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. I briefly considered adding it to my list ([name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was my combo, I think!), but it hasn’t stuck, and as the years have gone on, I’ve felt less and less connected to [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. I say it LYE-rah.
It’s a beautiful name, though, and I would love to have an adorable little [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] in my life!
Good luck!
It’s cute! Not my favorite, but definitely not a bad name. I’d pronounce it LEER-uh.
