What do you think about this name?

[name]Melva[/name], it’s a family name (given to my mother who doesn’t go by the name to honour her Grandfather [name]Melvin[/name]; my Great-Grandfather).

I like my mother, am not a huge fan of the name just wondering what other people think of it.

It’s unattractive sounding, and it makes me think of [name]Melba[/name] toast. If I was honoring a [name]Melvin[/name], I would choose a different girl’s name that started with [name]Mel[/name], like [name]Melinda[/name], or [name]Melanie[/name].

To me, [name]Melva[/name] is alright. Not a stunning name, but an attractive choice. nn [name]Elva[/name] (meaning elf), [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Liv[/name]/[name]Livia[/name]? are cute. However, if you don’t like it, then I wouldn’t use. I agree with pp that you could honor your mother with a similar-sounding name. I read a novel with main character Meliara, which I thought sounded magical. You could also use [name]Melva[/name] or similar as a middle.

I love [name]Elva[/name] (see my signature below) but [name]Melva[/name] doesn’t really quite do it for me.
I think [name]Melva[/name] would be a handsome mn or you could split the name up. Something like [name]Melanie[/name] [name]Eva[/name].

It has a bit of older charm to it, but it’s definitely nms.

I’m not a fan. It just isn’t pleasant sounding, and makes me think of a brand or product.

I actually like it, but then again I have a “[name]Mel[/name]” name. I’m also a fan of an uncommon nn… If I had a friend named [name]Melva[/name] I would probably end up calling her [name]Mellie[/name] or just V.

Makes me think of [name]Peach[/name] [name]Melba[/name], but I like it. I definitely prefer it over [name]Melvina[/name].

I´m sorry but I don´t like it. But I do agree with other posts regarding the split of the name into 2 names or choose another name that starts with [name]Mel[/name]. I prefer [name]Melissa[/name] here  Or if you feel like you want to honor your family by using [name]Melva[/name] without changing the name then you might want to put it at the second spot as a mn.
