I used to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name Lynaea. I loved the sound of it and how it was a flower, it got me thinking of variations because of how popular it is and this is what I came up with…
Lyraea
I think Lyraea is such a beautiful name and similar enough to lynaea without it being too crazy sounding. Thoughts?
edit: My apologies, I always used the spelling lynaea so I now realize I should have used the original spelling. And Lyraea is pronounced LI-RAY-AH
2nd edit: I understand if the spelling is throwing some people off, maybe Lereah would make it easier to pronounce
I like it! Although I think I might tweak the spelling. Sound-wise it has a lot going for it–the trendy L beginning, the popular A ending. The traditional spelling of Lynaea is [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], pronounced the same way (unless it comes from something else that sounds similar?) and if you were to go with that I’d stick with [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] since it’s got more history behind it, but that’s just a personal preference.
BUT since you’re asking about Lyraea, I love the sound of it but the spelling feels a little off. I might prefer Loreya (also a flower name!) or Lareya. It also depends on how you want to pronounce it. If you like the “lie” or “leer” sound in the beginning then Lyraea is probably the best spelling. I do like that it’s visually similar to [name_f]Astraea[/name_f].
I actually met a little girl recently named Loreya and I was so smitten by the name I had to look it up later that day. I think it’s a gorgeous, interesting, and melodic choice!
I like the sound of it, but the spelling is throwing me off so much I can’t focus on the sound. It looks so kre8tiv and those don’t sit well with me. Personal preference. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like I far prefer Lynaea spelled traditionally like [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]. Honestly, if I were you I would either go with [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] despite the popularity (because it is such a stunning name) or go with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] over Lyraea. If you need to have Lyraea, I like the previous poster’s suggestion of Loreya. It looks much better, the sound is still very close to Lyraea, and it makes the pronunciation far more intuitive for the average person.
I am personally not a fan, but I would spell it [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] instead of using a more kre8tiv spelling. [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] is the traditional spelling and I think it’s easier for people to pronounce too.
I’m going to have to agree with pp and say that I would go with either [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] or [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. Maybe you would like [name_f]Astraea[/name_f]?
I am not sure how to say it, but it looks like ler-ray-ah? Or is it leer-ee-ah? [name_m]Ly[/name_m]-ray-ah? Really confusing with this spelling unfortunately!
