What do you think of Adex?

Girls at my work came up with this one for me and as far as I know it’s just made up anyone see anything bad with it?

I’m assuming for a son?

I normally hate made up names… But this one is really cool. NN could be dex.

Adex? Sounds like a programming language. Why not call him [name]Atticus[/name]. Then you can use Attix as a nn?

My first thought? That you misspelled [name]Alex[/name]. My second thought? That a new type of bathroom cleaner is on the market. My third thought? That I have no idea if it’s pronounced [name]AD[/name]-ex or AY-dex. I don’t mind some made up names but this one doesn’t strike me as a name for a person, but rather a product.

It definitely sounds like a cleaning product. :frowning: Sorry.

horrible

Yeah, not so much – makes me think [name]Ajax[/name] if it’s AIDex (and AIDS?) and [name]Maddox[/name] if it’s Addex - in which case I’d spell it that way. Addex I like better, although still, I prefer a name with more history. And the nickname [name]Addie[/name] might happy (actually could with Adex too), which is pretty feminine.

Sounds like a cleaning product. Sort of reminds me of the word “index” too.

Dislike it. Reminds me of [name]Ajax[/name] too. And the dex at the end makes me think Why not just use [name]Dexter[/name].

Reminds me of ajax or apex. I’m really not a fan of made up names, especially this one.

Hate it, sorry! To me it’s some sort of office product–like a Rolodex…and is it AID-ex or [name]ADD[/name]-ex? If it’s the latter, then I hear “addicts.” Can’t be on board with it either way.

There are some made-up names (not that I’d use them) that look convincing because they follow familiar patterns. This one, though, went for “Anything can be cool if it has an X”, and since there aren’t many X-containing names (at least, not that most English speakers are familiar with), it stands out as odd. I can’t decide how to pronounce it, either.

I’ve got nothing against made up names (I love Paia my fave made up name) but Adex is totally a cleaning product or janitorial company. Javex meets [name]Comet[/name] meets [name]Aiden[/name]. I don’t mind [name]Abe[/name] or [name]Ace[/name] or even [name]Ade[/name] as a nn for something else.

Office supply. Any statement that includes “I came up with the name” doesn’t end well.

Hmmm… I have to say that I’m not too thrilled with this. It reminds me of the word “attic”, and as someone else pointed out, the bathroom cleaner. Sorry.

At first glance, it looks like typo-d [name]Alex[/name].

Then it reminds me of [name]Ajax[/name].

The more I say it / look at it, the more it sounds like “a [name]Dex[/name],” like, “oh hey, look, it’s a [name]Dex[/name].”

We were saying it as( [name]Add[/name]-ix) . The feedback is great because I wasn’t sure if it was good or bad and now I know! I do believe I just liked the X sound at the end, but don’t want any associations with the latest cleaning product so thank you everyone for your thoughts!
