What do you think of Avila? I haven't seen it on here

I love the name Avila, after the town and the saint. I really like the nickname [name]Avi[/name] for a girl and Avila is my first choice followed by [name]Aviva[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think these names are too uncommon or weird to put on a little girl? I think [name]Avi[/name] is cute, and a fresh alternative to [name]Ava[/name]

I think Avila sounds really pretty, and I also love [name]Aviva[/name]. There was a thread on Avila a while ago, and I thought you may like to read the comments: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

(Oh! No, I don’t think the names you’re considering are too out there.)

Good luck!

I like it, especially the meaning behind it. And [name]Avi[/name] is adorable
Good luck!

While I do think it’s pretty, personally I can’t see it as a first name because it’s my friend’s last name.
But, that aside, I think [name]Avi[/name] is a very cute nickname. I like both [name]Aviva[/name] and Avila. Good luck!

I love the name Avila. Ironically, I wanted to name my first daughter that after Avila [name]Beach[/name], a very special place to me. I would just sit and look at the ocean when I was pregnant with her, trying to think of how I could make Avila a name. However, it is a Spanish surname, so a little to difficult to use as a name.

I named my daughter Avila (uh-vee-la) after the baseball player [name]Alex[/name] Avila. I love the Detroit Tigers and when I was pregnant and wrestling with baby names; I happened to be watching a Tigers game on tv and I hear “Avila comes up to bat.” and I’m like “THAT’S MY DAUGHTER’S NAME!” and he hit a home run (thus winning the game). Her father is Irish and picked [name]Ireland[/name]-[name]Nicole[/name] (nicole being my middle name) for her middle name. I get compliments on her name all the time.

I have a soft spot for this one since it’s my fiance’s last name! Everyone says uh-VEE-lah but it should be [name]AH[/name]-vee-lah. I can’t see it as anything but a LN, but I suppose it’s pretty as a FN.

It’s a somewhat common Hispanic last name where I live so I think of it as a surname.

Yeah, the only thing I think of is the surname (and being a Tigers fan, [name]Alex[/name] Avila). I prefer [name]Aveline[/name] or Avelina.

I love [name]Aviva[/name], but like previous posters Avila feels like a last name to me. It’s a pretty sound, though. You could get away with using it as a first.

I think it’s pretty but agree with the above posters. I considered it for a while b/c I had been looking for a way to get to nn [name]Avie[/name] and saw a blog on a little girl named Avila, then researched the town. I don’t know anyone with that last name but it does sound VERY latin so I’d assume the person was hispanic if i saw it.
