What do you think of Bruno?

I really like the name [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] and since I’m trying to find names I like to begin to make a list of possible baby names, I thought I’d try him out. The only [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]'s I have ever known or heard of were the dog in [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] and an exchange student to my University. I feel like it’s a friendly-sounding name and would appreciate some feedback on it. Also, what names do you think are similar in style to [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]?

I think [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] [name_u]Mars[/name_u] is an absolute doll, but I still picture a large and intimidating Italian man when I hear the name [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]. I want to like it though.

I think [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] is gorgeous and very cool.

Similar names - [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] - it has a slick, continental vibe to me.

Similar names: [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m], [name_m]Maxim[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Pascal[/name_m], [name_m]Matthias[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Fabian[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]/[name_m]Manuel[/name_m], [name_m]Sol[/name_m]

I like it a lot. I’ve never met anyone with the name, but I did see a young guy named [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] on a reality show recently and I thought he pulled it off well. I think it also fits in with some of the trendy boy names right now, like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m], while also feeling a bit edgier.

I automatically think of the dog from [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]…then [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] [name_u]Mars[/name_u].

I agree with a previous poster who pictures a large, intimidating man. I imagine a [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] as someone who uses muscle as his career - a security guard, bouncer, mafia.

Some other names that I came up with remind me of [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] in some way:

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]! I met two boys named [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]. One was a sweet five-year-old boy, big dark eyes and freckled nose, and the other a very good looking young man. So, I have quite good associations with the name. Also, the boy from the “Boy in the striped pyjamas” is [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]. I didn’t know there were a dog in [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] with that name.

I know [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] have been suggested before, but I do think they have the same vibe as [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]. Also:

  • [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
  • [name_m]Pascal[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Cesar[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Simon[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Johann[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Rodric[/name_m]

Personally, I could never like the name simply for the movie [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] - a film I have only ever seen a scene from and I still would not name my child it. I like the [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] association much more

[name_m]Bruno[/name_m] is a name I wouldn’t have liked in past years, but it’s starting to shake off its frumpy image, thanks to newer namesakes like [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] [name_u]Mars[/name_u]. And now I find it more international and handsome. It’s still a bolder choice but I think it could work well.

As for similar names, I’d put [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] on the level with other more “European” names such as: [name_m]Ansel[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Iker[/name_m], [name_m]Valentin[/name_m], [name_m]Luc[/name_m], [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Julien[/name_m], [name_m]Rainer[/name_m], [name_m]Zoran[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_u]Milan[/name_u], etc.

Thank you everyone for the feedback and so many great suggestions. At the moment I am really looking to find a deeper interest in names and open my mind a bit more to less common and conventional names.

I really like [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] and think it’s a very warm and fuzzy name, so I think the bear association is perfect and quite sweet. I was really surprised to see that lots of you associate it with mafia, muscles and violence! I’m not aware of the [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] film and so wont even dare to take a look at it, considering so many bad reviews.

I really liked the suggestion of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_m]Bernard[/name_m]. I feel like these fit in with how I perceive [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] and fit the description (in my opinion) of warm and friendly names.
