[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Callie[/name] is too much of a stretch as a nn for [name]Charlotte[/name]? Would [name]Carly[/name] be better or still a bit random?
I love the name [name]Charlotte[/name] but dont love any of the nn’s.
At the moment I like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (not very inventive but so pretty!)
I do think [name]Callie[/name]'s a bit of a stretch. Although it works for [name]Caroline[/name], so why not [name]Charlotte[/name]? I still think people will be really confused when they find out [name]Callie[/name]'s full name is [name]Charlotte[/name], though. I think [name]Carly[/name] is much more connected–take out the “H”, and you have the [name]Carl[/name] sound. I really like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Grace[/name] from your list.
I agree with @ashthedreamer - I think [name]Carly[/name] or [name]Carlie[/name] makes more sense, but [name]Callie[/name] is a pretty name and if you like it, go for it. I know people with nicknames that are more of a stretch.
If you love [name]Charlotte[/name], what about [name]Carlotta[/name]? It sounds pretty with your mn list and makes more sense with [name]Callie[/name].
I think it’s a stretch, however my philosophy is that if you want a nn to stick then you make it stick. You just introduce her as [name]Callie[/name], put it on her school forms…they have a nn or preferred name section usually and call her it all of the time.
But, then the thought pops up in my mind… [name]Callie[/name] probably wont stick unless you force it and if she will always be known as [name]Callie[/name] then why name her [name]Charlotte[/name]? I’m probably being annoying and it’s probably not what you want to hear, but I just think [name]Callie[/name] is a lovely proper name and not the most natural nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name].
I think [name]Carly[/name] would work better, but I don’t know why you would turn a beautiful, classic name like [name]Charlotte[/name] into a, in my opinion, dated name like [name]Carly[/name].
My favourite nn for [name]Charlotte[/name] is [name]Lottie[/name]…so I guess I’m just coming from a different angle. I do share you love for [name]Charlotte[/name]…it was in the top 5 for my daughter! All the middle names go great, sometimes safe, although not very “nammeberry”, is best! [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mae[/name] would have to be my favourite
[name]Grace[/name] x
[name]Callie[/name] would be too much of a stretch for me to use, and I think some people might find it really odd. [name]Carly[/name]. on the other hand, makes a lot of sense to me as a nn for [name]Charlotte[/name].
I think [name]Carly[/name] totally works as a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name], since the Italian form of the name is [name]Carlotta[/name]. I wouldn’t be surprised by a [name]Carly[/name] whose formal name was [name]Charlotte[/name], although it wouldn’t be my first guess. [name]Callie[/name], though, is a stretch for me. I’d assume it was short for [name]Calliope[/name] or [name]Callista[/name].
I think it depends on what you want from a nickname.
If you intend the nn to be used by everyone everywhere in lieu of [name]Charlotte[/name], then I believe it’s best to pick a nn that’s more intuitive, like [name]Carly[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], or [name]Lottie[/name]. In my opinion, it’s just easier to live with, longterm, for the child. If you think of a nn as something that’s used occasionally by family and close friends, but you would expect her to be [name]Charlotte[/name] most of the time…well, anything goes with a nn like that, including [name]Callie[/name].
My favorite of your combos is [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. Very pretty.
