Hey berries, I’m new here and trying to settle on a baby girl name.
We have a little boy named [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] with a hyphenated last name K___- K___. Some of my original top pics are [name_f]Adelie[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Elianne[/name_f]… Hubby is not a fan or has trouble pronouncing some of them (he’s Korean), so he suggested a Korean name.
We came upon the Korean name Danbi (“dan bee”) recently and I like it, but I’m not sure how it sounds to others… It means “sweet rain”, which I love! (Also, I’d like to have the middle name [name_f]Ann[/name_f] for her to honor my mother who I lost recently.)
What are your impressions of this name and how it works with brother [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], middle name [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and our family name.
Hmm… the meaning is very neat, but the sound reminds me of [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] a little bit, and I’m not really wild about it with [name_f]Ann[/name_f] because of the repeating sounds ([name_m]Dan[/name_m] - [name_f]Ann[/name_f]).
My favorite Korean name is [name_f]Mirae[/name_f], which means “future” and is my South Korean-born cousin’s middle name. I think [name_f]Mirae[/name_f] sounds international enough that it would be easy for Americans, and it goes with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
Ultimately, you should go with what you love - this is just my personal opinion.
Danbi sounds like a very cute name for a baby girl, I’ve been saying it in my head and I find myself smiling. As for practicality it would be hard to mispronounce the name so I don’t think you could go wrong.
Thanks muchly for your responses. I’m pretty used to Korean names (though Danbi is not a traditional), so it’s really helpful to get outside feedback.
I noticed a couple of you mentioned it was cute (and the [name_f]Bambi[/name_f] similarity I hadn’t thought of, good to know). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would age well, or is it too cutesy? I’m guessing she would probably get called [name_u]Danny[/name_u] as a nn…
