What do you think of Elbereth?

I’m thinking of trying to find a way to fit it in my fave names list, maybe [name]Lavender[/name] Elbereth? I am very fond of flower names, so if you have any suggestions, please tell me! [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] are taken but I’m open for anything else

I adore [name]Lavender[/name], not sure on Elbereth.

Another yes for [name]Lavender[/name] but Elbereth sounds awful. Sorry.

It sounds like something out of [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings. Not in a good way.

Sorry, but to me it sounds like [name]Elizabeth[/name] with a speech impediment.

[name]Lavender[/name] is fine, but Elbereth is not good… at all. It sounds really mumbled and kinda awful. Sorry. Maybe [name]Elspeth[/name] isntead.

Elbereth IS out of [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings. She is one of the Valar, who are roughly equivalent in Tolkien’s mythology to the archangels of Christianity. She created the stars and is especially beloved by the Elves. The name Elbereth is one given to her by the Elves; it’s a Sindarin Elvish name meaning “star-queen.”
I think it’s lovely because I’m a Tolkien fan, but I would recommend keeping it (as you intend) in the middle name spot. You’ll probably get delighted smiles from LOTR lovers, and weird looks from others.
[name]Lavender[/name] is delightful, but with Elbereth as a middle I might incline to a slightly shorter and more familiar flower first name.

[name]Lavender[/name] is fine but nothing special. Only go with [name]Lavender[/name] if you drop Elbereth. As for Elbereth…

as a LOTR lover, I can see the appeal. Though I know many others will not. If you would like to pay homage to Tolkien, I suggest you use [name]Arwen[/name]. It’s a beautiful name that LOTR lovers will recognize and even those unfamiliar will like. “[name]Arwen[/name] [name]Lavender[/name] ____” sounds absolutely phenomenal.

I love Elbereth, LOTR and all things tolkien, but to the non-Tolkien initiate, it’s a bit heavy. Maybe you could use Elbereth’s other name, [name]Varda[/name]? Legit name, means rose in Hebrew I think, so it’s also a botanical name kind of. In the middle I think Elbereth is fine, but a bit much as a first. Oh, you know what other Tolkien name I love? Luthien Tinuviel. Sorry, don’t mean to hijack the post and make it about LOTR!

Not keen on either name. [name]Lavender[/name] is okay… Elbereth is horrible. Sorry.

Elbereth sounds like a minor character or place in the L. [name]Frank[/name] Baum [name]Oz[/name] books.

[name]Lavender[/name] = okay. Elbereth = not okay. If you like Elbereth due to the [name]El[/name]-, try [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], or something along those lines. If you like it due to the LOTR connection, consider okbrielle’s suggestion of [name]Arwen[/name]. [name]Arwen[/name] is a gorgeous name, and there are others from LOTR that are also nice. natural gave a great list of flower names, but another you might consider is [name]Poppy[/name] (quite common in the UK, but not in the US.)

I think Elbereth is very nice, but I’ve heard it so much due to LOTR that I’m used to it, so for me it seems a more normal name than to most, if that makes sense. I would totally use it in a middle name spot. I would only worry about using it for a first name because having to explain to people how to spell it would get annoying.

No one is going to be named Elbereth because this poster is a troll.
