What do you think of Enzuccio?

Hi guys. I find out the gender of baby #2 in just a couple weeks. My husband is is itallian american. And yes he comes from one of those typical families were everyone is either a Joe, Frank, or Vince. My husband is Joey Elio and his father is Vincent. FIL is asking if it’s a boy to name him after him. I don’t care for Vince or Vincent, and DH also has a second cousin who named his baby boy Vincent just last year. Here is where Enzuccio comes in. I had never heard of it before I met my husbands family, but it is actually a diminutive of Vincenzo or Vincent. DH has one cousin who is Vincent after his father on the birth certificate but has gone almost exclusivly by Enzuccio his whole life. Also my FIL frequently goes by a variant, Enz himself. The name is pronounced En-zoo-cho. I really like the way the name sounds but realize it is going to be very hard to pronounce or spell until you’ve seen it a few times. It took me several tries to find the right spelling as I have mostly heard not seen the name. The other family names I like are Elio, which is my husbands middle name and his grandfathers name. On my side my grandfather was Roald which I like but doesn’t fit as nicely with our very itallian last name. Oh, and our DD is Luna Mirabelle.

Have you considered [name]Enzo[/name]? I actually like Enzuccio, I think people will get over learning how to pronounce, besides, there are so many Italian Americans that I think you might be surprised at just how many people would intuitively know how to say this name.

I was also going to suggest [name]Enzo[/name]. A bit simpler and I love the sound

I like it. It looks very Italian, so my guess is people with a background in the language will get it immediately and those who don’t will get it after one or two corrections. I, like the pps, love [name]Enzo[/name], and I love [name]Elio[/name] as well.

My guess is that your FIL will know the child is named for him since there are [name]Vincents[/name] in the family that go by Enzuccio? I’m generally pretty liberal about what I would consider an “honoring” name, but I find that people generally don’t understand that my suggested variation of [name]Anne[/name] is meant to honor a [name]Nancy[/name], for instance. Since he asked specifically, I’d be a bit wary of what variation I use, but it sounds like he would know that Enzuccio is meant to honor him.

Thanks for the responses. I like [name]Enzo[/name], but really love the strong z coupled with the ch sound. I guess it feels stronger or more youthful. I’m pretty sure FIL would know the name was meant to honor him. If anything it might sound weird to my in laws as it is more of a diminutive than a life long nickname. But then again my FIL named his son [name]Joey[/name] as a proper name, so I don’t think that would matter much.
