What do you think of Evelyn? Honest opinions, please

[name]Hi[/name] ladies-- My husband and I are expecting our first baby, a girl, in [name]August[/name]. We have been all over the place with names but the past week have really liked the name [name]Evelyn[/name] (nn [name]Evie[/name]). [name]Just[/name] wondering what you think of the name [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Grace[/name] ([name]Roth[/name])…too old fashioned? too stuck-up ish sounding? Or is it timeless and cute?? Please let me know what you think  Thanks!

It’s sweet, one of those that’s nice enough but I wouldn’t really bat an eyelid too because I find it rather common and predictable here in the UK.

I’d prefer something like [name]Evelina[/name] [name]Grace[/name]!

Hello there!

I like [name]Evelyn[/name]. I know a 3-year-old named [name]Evelyn[/name] and she’s such a cutie! The name is growing in popularity and even in the Top 10 in a couple of states, but that’s not necessarily a reason not to use it. It’s vintage and pretty, and not stuck up sounding at all.

[name]Grace[/name] is kind of a generic filler middle name these days. It does sound nice, but here’s some other ideas:

[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Renee[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Sage[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Zoe[/name]

Good luck to you!!

I like [name]Evelyn[/name] a lot! I don’t think it’s too old-fashioned–it’s currently in the top 30 in the US. It’s quite well-loved and I would assume well-received, due to its popularity. It does feel quite classic and [name]Evie[/name] is really cute. I do prefer something like [name]Eve[/name], [name]Evelina[/name], or [name]Evangeline[/name], personally, but [name]Evelyn[/name] is very pretty and charming. [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Roth[/name] sounds very nice.

[name]Evelyn[/name] sounded old-fashioned maybe 10 years ago, now it’s in style along with other Ev- names. It’s a very pretty name. Certainly does not sound stuck-up.

I like evelyn. I prefer when it’s said like [name]Eve[/name]-lyn over Ev-e-lyn though!

I really like [name]Evelyn[/name], but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Evie[/name]. I think it’s the perfect first name/nn combo. Classic and sweet.

[name]Grace[/name] is a little boring with it, but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]. It’s so pretty and sophisticated but [name]Evie[/name] is so sweet and spunky is makes it youthful too. I worked with a little 4 year old named [name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] which is what made me love [name]Evie[/name].

Thanks for all the comments/ suggestions ladies! I would not be opposed to switching up the middle name… we both just seemed to gravitate to “[name]Grace[/name]” after we had a miscarriage last time around…so it held some meaning for us. That being said, I wouldnt be against using some other name for a middle name!

If [name]Grace[/name] has a personal meaning for you, then that’s great!

[name]Just[/name] so that you know - [name]Anna[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], and all the other many variations of [name]Anne[/name] also have the meaning “grace”. You could look into those if you wanted something more distinctive.

I find the name itself rather dull/unexciting, but it is at least not trendy sounding, which is always refreshing! It does not have a stuck-up feeling to me at all. I think it flows fine with [name]Grace[/name] though I wouldn’t use [name]Grace[/name] as a middle name unless it has family significance as it seems too filler-ish to me. I might try something more unique, there are so many fun options with middle names as they rarely get used so I see them as a chance to have more fun and be less practical should you want to!
