[name]Hi[/name], my husband are TTC this year, so I’ve been thinking about kids names again:) My husband LOVES [name]Ginevra[/name], nicknamed [name]Ginny[/name]. I’m still not totally sold, and those that we have tried it out on, don’t love it. Am wondering what everyone thinks? We have a little girl, [name]Isla[/name] [name]Harper[/name]. Some combinations I have thought of include;
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Adeline[/name]
Other girls I like include [name]May[/name], [name]Margo[/name], and [name]Phoebe[/name].
For a boy, we like [name]Harry[/name] Raffety. Other possibilities include [name]Felix[/name], [name]Finn[/name], and [name]Oscar[/name]. Help!*
It’s too [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] for me, and I didn’t like the character of [name]Ginny[/name] Weasley, so that doesn’t help either.
[name]Ginevra[/name] reminds me of [name]Ivy[/name], and the -nevra part makes me think of “never”. I can see the appeal to the name, but I’m not a fan at all.
If you have a [name]Ginevra[/name] would [name]Harry[/name] still be on your list for another child? If so, then there’s an issue. [name]Way[/name] too [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], as [name]Ginny[/name] and [name]Harry[/name] married.
I’m not the biggest fan of the name [name]Ginevra[/name] but I do like the first 2 combos of [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] & [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name].
Some other names that might go well with [name]Isla[/name] [name]Harper[/name] could be [name]Eden[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Lola[/name]
She would be nicknamed weasel or weasley in school so I would steer clear of it if I were you. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Isla[/name] [name]Harper[/name], great choice!
I also love [name]May[/name], [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Finn[/name].
This would be our last child, so definately no [name]Harry[/name] and ginevra. The [name]Harry[/name] potter thing has worked out to be an unhappy coincidence. I’m not sure if living in Australia makes any difference, but I don’t think the [name]Harry[/name] potter connection would be huge if we picked ginevra, or [name]Harry[/name]. My husband loves [name]Ginny[/name] as a nickname, and I’m not a great fan of the alternatives ([name]Virginia[/name], ginnifer). What are your thoughts on [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name] for Islas sister?
Between [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name], I prefer [name]Margot[/name]
I like Margot more for [name]Isla[/name]'s sister, and I think the [name]Genevra[/name] spelling is a little cleaner than [name]Ginevra[/name]. Maybe you like [name]Geneva[/name] more?
[name]How[/name] about [name]Regina[/name] to get to [name]Ginny[/name]? I like [name]Regina[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] together
Or [name]Eugenie[/name]/[name]Eugenia[/name] or [name]Genevieve[/name]?
I like [name]Geneva[/name], and [name]Margot[/name]. [name]Ginevra[/name] seems hard to say.
I like it! It is a new twist on [name]Genoveve[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name]. The nn [name]Ginny[/name] is one of my favs!
[name]Ginevra[/name] is lovely. You get the Medieval, magical [name]Guinevere[/name] association, with a refreshing “gin” fizz. [name]Ginny[/name] is sweet, but [name]Ginger[/name] is sublime, imo.
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Rue[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Luisa[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] Bloom (would be nice with sister’s surname middle)
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Cecile[/name]
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Honor[/name] (also nice with [name]Harper[/name])
I love [name]Ginevra[/name]!!! [name]One[/name] of my favorites and a top name for me that I would consider naming my future daughter. Big [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fan too! [name]Don[/name]'t know why other people don’t like it or [name]Ginny[/name] Weasley, yes I probably wouldn’t use both [name]Harry[/name] and [name]Ginevra[/name]. But that wouldn’t bother me. I don’t think the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] associations are bad – it just means the name has more exposure. But it’s not a common name anyway so that is in my opinion not a bad thing.
Your husband loves [name]Ginevra[/name]?! [name]Lucky[/name] you! I think [name]Ginevra[/name] is darling! With the nn [name]Ginny[/name], it is too [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] though, but I do love [name]Ginny[/name]! I like the nn [name]Nev[/name] better.
If it’s [name]Ginny[/name] he loves, could you use [name]Virginia[/name] or [name]Ginette[/name]?
[name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is my fave of your combos. Personally, I would choose [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Faye[/name] or [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].
I think [name]Ginevra[/name] is lovely, but I don’t like [name]Ginny[/name] at all. I think [name]Ginevra[/name] is a beautiful name and [name]Ginny[/name] doesn’t do it justice.
I think the nickname [name]Ginny[/name] is darling, but I honestly don’t care for [name]Ginevra[/name]. I’ve never read or seen any [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] (I’m probably the only person in the world!) so I don’t get that association, but the first thing I think of is the Spanish word for gin (which is spelled “ginebra”, and is also how I would spontaneously pronounce the name). I agree with other posters with the suggestion of [name]Virginia[/name], but it doesn’t seem as exotic as [name]Ginevra[/name]. I also like the original version of [name]Guinevere[/name] quite a bit.
Good luck and have fun picking a name!
Although I love the nickname [name]Ginny[/name] I’m not so keen on [name]Ginevra[/name]. Maybe I’m just saying it wrong, but it’s just not my cup of tea sorry I love your choices of middle name though!
P.S. Like the above poster, I’ve never read/ seen any [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]. When I hear the name [name]Ginny[/name] I think of the fashion dolls that were produced by Vogue in the 1950s. They were darling I also agree with the above poster that [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Guinevere[/name] are nicer options.
[name]Isla[/name] and [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name] is a strange sibset. [name]Isla[/name] is a bit trendy. [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name] is old-fashioned/less common.
[name]Isla[/name] and [name]Pheobe[/name] make a good sibset.
Some suggestions:
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]/[name]Clio[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Posy[/name]
[name]Marlena[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Marlo[/name]/[name]Marlow[/name]/[name]Marlowe[/name]?
I like [name]Geneva[/name] as a way to [name]Ginny[/name] so, so much more. It’s that --erv sound that’s very heavy.
Yes, lucky you! I would use this name right now, right this second if my last name didn’t clash horribly with it. I also love [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Faye[/name] or [name]Ginevra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], but I think your other options work well with it. Gosh, [name]Ginevra[/name] is just so beautiful, with such cool meaning and history. I would point out that not a whole lot of people know [name]Ginny[/name] Weasley’s full name, so [name]Ginny[/name] might not be the big problem some make it out to be. HP fans only account for a small percentage of the population, and no one over, say, 25 would make the connection. If it still bothers you, [name]Virginia[/name] and [name]Guinevere[/name] are excellent alternatives.
[name]Margot[/name] goes really nicely with [name]Isla[/name], I think! I also just love the name [name]Margot[/name]/[name]Margo[/name].
I personally am not a huge fan of [name]Ginevra[/name], but regarding the middle name options, I would probably stay away from a middle name beginning with A, as it would flow into the A-sound of, for instance, [name]Adeline[/name]. I’m also not loving E names with [name]Ginevra[/name]. I would try to choose a name beginning with a consonant; I think that would sound best with [name]Ginevra[/name].
I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying this, but [name]Margot[/name] is just awful. It’s a terrible name for a baby born in this day and age. My mother is named [name]Margaret[/name] and she hates it. She has had the hardest time getting people to call her [name]Maggie[/name].
[name]Genevieve[/name] would be perfect! I am totally in love with the name [name]Ginny[/name], you could even just go with that. Sometimes it’s easier for kids to be named the exact thing you’d want to call them, even if it is considered a nickname. I don’t think most people will associate it with [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] in 10 or 15 years.
I hope you find the perfect name!! Best of luck!
