It’s odd - it makes me think simultaneously of an old man, because that’s the “style” and a baby (since I know it’s trending upward).
Yes, kind of - I would assume the parents were at least comfortable enough with religion to pick a Biblical name that is not also a widespread secular one. I wouldn’t necessarily assume much about the intensity or nature of their religiosity, but I would be a little bit surprised by a set of strongly atheist parents with a little [name]Hezekiah[/name]. (I’d get over it, though).
I kind of like it, but it’s maybe a little too clunky for me. Of the upwardly trending “odd” Bible names, I think I like it more than [name]Obadiah[/name], about equally with [name]Jedidiah[/name], maybe a little less than [name]Nehemiah[/name] and I love [name]Malachi[/name]. I also love [name]Eliakim[/name] which is not trending up at all currently : D.
I like the potential nicknames [name]Zeke[/name] and [name]Ki[/name], and I’m sure there are others you could come up with.
I love it. I want to use it, but my husband won’t let me. And my sister doesn’t really want me to use it either as I would probably use the NN [name]Zeke[/name] and she wants to use [name]Ezekiel[/name], NN [name]Zeke[/name].
My husband was SO [name]HAPPY[/name] my sister was all “hey no no that’s mine,” and now he goes “can’t, your sister called it.” x.x
I’d assume at least one of the parents was at least a bit religious, because it’s not really well known outside of that, there’s relatively few granddads or famous musicians or whatever to inspire it, it’s not exactly [name]Jacob[/name]/[name]James[/name] (in terms of mainstream). And I imagine a lot of non-religious parents would veto it, like my husband did, like he said, “but we’re not Amish.”
I like it, and I do think it’s Biblical, but it’s a bit long for my tastes. I would be inclined to just use [name]Zeke[/name] (love [name]Zeke[/name]!), but I know a lot of people prefer long names. [name]Kiah[/name] would be a nice nn too.
I think [name]Hezekiah[/name] is great. It’s kinda clunky but spunky. Yeah, it’d be weird for a non-religious couple to name their son [name]Hezekiah[/name].
[name]Hezekiah[/name] is a rarely used Biblical name that sounds vintage yet contemporary (like [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Josiah[/name] which are more well known). I also find it very spunky especially with the nn [name]Zeke[/name]. I would assume that the parents were Christians and that’s not a bad thing, is it?
It does make me think of the Bible. But, I would never assume the parents were religious. Names remind me of things all the time, but I don’t assume there’s a direct connection. Now, if I ran across a [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Mark[/name], [name]Luke[/name] and [name]John[/name] sibset…probably.
I’m not religious, though I grew up with it and surrounded by it. I know the name is a biblical name. But, I think it’s lovely and I’d use it. I guess that’s the biggest reason I wouldn’t assume the parents were religious, but Lots of people in the world like to make assumptions. So, while I wouldn’t, I’m sure there are many who would.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t care if people assumed I’m religious just because of a name I picked. If I liked and wanted to use a “biblical” name, I’d use it.
I love weighty biblical names, I really do, but [name]Hezekiah[/name] is too forbidding. It’s a real “fire and brimstone” name, imo, and that does give it that ultra-religious feel.
I [name]LOVE[/name] this name! (Not a fan of the nn [name]Zeke[/name], though.) It’s more of a guilty pleasure name for me. I would possibly use it as a mn. I do think ‘bible’ when I hear it, but I am [name]Christian[/name] and that’s where I heard it. But I don’t think that would deter me even if I wasn’t [name]Christian[/name].
