My husband is Norwegian/Canadian. He is set on using [name_m]Leif[/name_m]. I don’t mind [name_m]Leif[/name_m] as long as we put a more common/poular middle name with it so it doesn’t wind up soundng to ethnic. He wanted [name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Angus[/name_m], I think [name_m]Angus[/name_m] is because we are cattle ranchers and he raises [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_m]Angus[/name_m] cows but to me its just all Scottish and makes me think of hagis or something.
What do you think?
The names are fine but they do blend into each to become one long name: Leifangus.
I love Leif (on my short list) and I love Angus (see my siggy.) But they run together, as Mischa mentioned, due to the brevity of Leif and Angus’ soft, nasal vowel beginning.
Solutions:
Rearrange as “Angus Leif” and call him Leif. I love the names paired in this order!
Convince your husband to save Angus for another child. (Leif and Angus make wonderful brothers, IMO!)
Tell hubby that since you are “letting” him have first name pick, (Leif) you get to pick the middle. After all, you should get a say too!

Just out of curiosity, what are your other children’s’ names? Do you mind sharing? Does your husband pronounce Leif as “Leaf” or as “Layfe?” I personally pronounce it as “Layfe.”
We pronounce it [name_u]LEAF[/name_u]. Our last name is long and has several hard constonant sounds.

Since you aren’t pronouncing it the “ethnic” way then you don’t need to worry about it being “too ethnic”. You’re essentially naming him [name_u]Leaf[/name_u]. ‘Layf’ is handsome; I’m not a fan of ‘[name_u]Leaf[/name_u]’. I agree with the suggestion of [name_m]Angus[/name_m] [name_m]Leif[/name_m]
