I’ve been pretty open about the fact I don’t really feel like my name ([name_f]Iona[/name_f]) fits me at all, and though I’d never actually change it, im going to be moving away in about a years time, and I’ve been thinking about going by a nickname.
I don’t actually have any nicknames. I’ve got two pet names, but I don’t think anybody would take them seriously ([name_m]Iggy[/name_m] and Big I).
I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Io[/name_f]. I actually use it on a social media site that’s not linked to the rest of my stuff, and generally got opinions of ‘thats so cool’, but these were mainly by teenagers, so I don’t know if it actually works on an adult?
Basically I’m asking what you think of [name_f]Io[/name_f] on an adult. If someone introduced themselves as [name_f]Io[/name_f] in a work setting, what would you think?
Pronounced i-o or e-o? It works as a nickname for your name, and it has a link to mythology and astronomy which I like. I think it’s a neat name.
I think it’s cool and can stand on its own. It makes me think of [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m]'s moon named [name_f]Io[/name_f].
I think Io would make a good nickname for you. Have you tested it out (outside of social media)? If no, it would be a good way to see how other people view it and how they react to the name. Out in the world would be the best test. Social media sites are sites you would have chosen. The other people on the site might view you more as a friend. Out in the world you will see how everyone views it. Strangers, people you work with, family, friends, etc. Go a few months only using Io.
I love the idea of going by [name_f]Io[/name_f]! It seems like a really natural nickname to go by from [name_f]Iona[/name_f], and it has an interesting mythology background, too. I think you should do it
I adore [name_f]Io[/name_f], it’s a name that I have been trying to fit into my combinations for a while. [name_f]Io[/name_f] is a natural nickname for [name_f]Iona[/name_f] and I think it’s perfectly feasible for an adult - it’s very mature and sophisticated.
@autumnreverie, I’ll be pronouncing it Eye-oh, like the first two syllables of [name_f]Iona[/name_f].
Thanks everybody!
I like [name_f]Io[/name_f], though not her story.
