What do you think of Jessamy?

Really like this name for a girl but is it too closely associated with the over popular fading jessica?

It’s close to [name]Jessamine[/name]/[name]Jessamyn[/name] which I think are beautiful names. I don’t think it sounds too much like [name]Jessica[/name] but it looks like [name]Jess[/name] + [name]Amy[/name] which might have been your intention?

I love [name]Jessamy[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name]! I see them as distinct, [name]Jessamy[/name] is surnamey and [name]Jessamine[/name] is an old form of [name]Jasmine[/name]. They are a little tied to [name]Jessica[/name] but I don’t think it’s a huge problem, it’s like [name]Genevieve[/name] to [name]Jennifer[/name] to me. Of course I’m also a [name]Jessica[/name] with a basically positive view of my name so I might be biased.

I wasn’t going for the jess-amy thing. I just love the way it sounds, and the nickname [name]Jessie[/name] without having to use [name]Jessica[/name]. Although I really do like the name [name]Jessica[/name]–it’s one of those overly popular names that I wish I could use but won’t as it is fading out of style. [name]Jessamy[/name] also sort of gives me the same feel as [name]Romilly[/name] or [name]Amelie[/name] and I love those names for their pretty, informal but strong sound. IDK. I’m torn.

[name]Jessamy[/name] is nms. I would be concerned that it can be mispronounced to sound like “jus’ [name]Amy[/name]”. (Most J names are nms) but I’d prefer the closely related [name]Jessamine[/name].

Yeah, now I’m actually leaning more toward [name]Jessamine[/name] too. I love it! I just can’t get over the [name]Jessica[/name] thing…

I prefer this name over [name]Jessamine[/name]. It just feels lighter, less somber. But the connection to [name]Jessamine[/name] makes [name]Jessamy[/name] remind me of [name]Jasmine[/name]. It also makes me think of [name]Tess[/name], [name]Bellamy[/name], [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Leonie[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Jessa[/name]…just as much as [name]Jessica[/name] (which I think is a nice enough name anyway).

I have known a girl named [name]Jessamy[/name] and I loved her unique name. [name]Jess[/name]-uh-mee. Never connected it to [name]Jess[/name]+[name]Amy[/name].

i love it, i think it’s really pretty! I see it more like [name]Bellamy[/name] or [name]Amelie[/name], as others have said, as opposed to just a variation on [name]Jessica[/name].

I really like [name]Jessamy[/name] I think it’s pretty and sweet without being overly frilly, you know? I know a [name]Jesse[/name] that I wouldn’t name my kid after (most definitely not), but I like it in the middle name spot again.

I love [name]Jessamy[/name]! I love [name]Jessamine[/name] as well, but I’m at a point right now where I prefer the sound of [name]Jessamy[/name]. I think it’s fantastic. I don’t think that its similarity to [name]Jessica[/name] should be a problem.

I slightly prefer [name]Jessamine[/name]. I think it’s slightly more serious sounding than [name]Jessamy[/name]. [name]Jessamy[/name] makes me think of Besame Mucho. I want to sing, “[name]Jessamy[/name]! [name]Jessamy[/name] Mucho!” That said, I think both are nice… [name]Jessamine[/name] has a little more elegance imo.

You know, i still love [name]Jessica[/name].
Probably because there’s someone in my life who i love whose name is [name]Jessica[/name]. But i think it’s still a very pretty name.
[name]Jessamy[/name] is nice but i agree with the person who said it seems really surnamey.
It seems really similar to [name]Jessamine[/name] which i actually prefer.

I love it. It’s one I’ve only recently discovered and it’s becoming a firm favorite with me.

I love both [name]Jessamy[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name] but it’s true, a girl with this distinct name could easily evolve into a [name]Jess[/name] or [name]Jessie[/name] and become one of the substantial crowd of (older) Jessicas. Same thing with names that shorten to [name]Ellie[/name] or [name]Jen[/name] – there are so many names that reduce to those much more common nicknames that in the end, I wonder whether it matters whether you’re an [name]Ella[/name] or an [name]Eliana[/name], a [name]Jennifer[/name] or a [name]Jennica[/name]. I know many parents like the combination of a distinctive formal name and a much more down-to-earth familiar nickname, and I can see the argument for that. But I can’t help feeling that you undercut the whole reason for choosing a distinctive name in the first place.

I love the sound of [name]Jessamy[/name] like all those who have likened it to [name]Bellamy[/name], Romily, etc… I agree that a nn like [name]Jessie[/name] doesn’t help your cause if you are trying not to associate the name with [name]Jessica[/name], but I have always loved just [name]Jessa[/name] and think it would make a lovely nn! [admittedly that still might be too similar to [name]Jessica[/name] for you but I think its so pretty!]
