I think [name_m]Job[/name_m] is a solid, handsome name. Especially paired with a longer middle name.
I like the name, but man the story is such a bummer.
I can see the appeal, but I worry that most people would automatically assume [name_m]Job[/name_m] as in career, even people familiar with the bible.
I like it a lot. The Biblical association is one I appreciate personally, but for a non-Biblical family, it might not be the best choice - purely because people are likely to jump to the conclusion that the parents are very religious, compared to another Biblical name like [name_m]Luke[/name_m] or [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] that won’t raise a single eyebrow.
Perhaps Jobe would prevent pronunciation issues? Not sure if that’s your style or not.
Overall, it’s a bold choice, but definitely useable. As for combos, I have to agree a longer first/middle works best with it.

[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m]
This is my hesitation. It sounds nice, I like the soft vowel in the middle but I’m not religious and would rather not try and answer that question every time someone makes the assumption!
The pronunciation is my only other worry - how many people would pronounce it like the word and not the biblical pronunciation?
Yeah it would be a strange choice for a family who isn’t religious at all given how rare it is. I don’t see the spelling/pronunciation as much of a problem really. At least its a short name. I wonder is [name_m]Jobe[/name_m] might get pronounced like [name_m]Kobe[/name_m]?
Not my favorite name and I might be afraid that people would pronounce it like job( work) but if you really like it I’d pair it with some long flowing middles.
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
I love it! I think I’d place it where I place [name_f]Rahab[/name_f]… a biblical name I wish I could use and am somewhat jealous of those who could.
I think the biblical story is one that would be a great legacy for a child to carry. The strong character of [name_m]Job[/name_m] that persisted even in the mist of storms and trials and came out favorable in Gods eyes is a plus!
Obviously, there would be the likely initial name correction but I think that could be an easy fix as the pronunciation isn’t difficult to pick up on.
I think [name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] would be a cool pairing!
Yes! The story isn’t all about the suffering.
I like [name_m]Job[/name_m] fine! I think it is probably a simple biblical alternative to the growing popularity of [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]. As a person who works in the schools, I never see it, but I do immediately know how to pronounce it. I agree with others that it needs something longer to pair with it.
I once did a guest blog on here about naming our son [name_m]Job[/name_m], if you’d like to read it:
We love our [name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] and don’t regret it one bit, 7 years later. He loves it too. And, all kids love saying [name_u]Joby[/name_u] too.

“I think the biblical story is one that would be a great legacy for a child to carry. The strong character of Job that persisted even in the mist of storms and trials and came out favorable in Gods eyes is a plus!”
Yes!
This was exactly why we named him Job!
It’s pretty much what we loved about the name [name_m]Jabez[/name_m]!
@Alix2016 [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
Jabez is on our short list if we ever have more. Only thing is, for us it might seem like a mix of [name_m]Job[/name_m] and [name_m]Boaz[/name_m]!
I really like the name, however I feel like you’d have to correct people a lot and from personal experience it’s not always that great. However if you love the name then go for it. Nobody can tell you otherwise!
Some combos
Job [name_u]Asher[/name_u]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_u]Zion[/name_u]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Adam[/name_m]
You can also flip the names around if you prefer [name_m]Job[/name_m] as a middle name. I hope this has helped you
I think it could work and don’t consider the OT story a bad association. I will say when I see [name_m]Job[/name_m] used it is usually spelled [name_m]Jobe[/name_m], I guess to cut on confusion. But who out there really thinks someone would name their kid “job”?
I like the sound of it, but the connections to [name_m]Job[/name_m] (Gob Bluth - can’t stand that character, the story from the Bible, and [name_u]Joby[/name_u] from Children of the Corn) are not ones I’d like to associate with a child of mine. But that’s personal preference. It’s not a terrible name by any means. I live in the US but between my husband and I, we have backgrounds in several cultures and I’d say about 60% of the people I know would not know how to pronounce [name_m]Job[/name_m] right off the bat. Some food for thought.
I’m not a huge fan of this name. It’s just not to my personal taste. The fact that it has same spelling as the word is kind of unfortunate, but I’m not sure if it would be a huge issue since people are more likely to hear the name first before they see it written down.
