Hey, I’m new here (so I’m sorry if this is an awkward post) but my partner and I are expecting our third child within the next 5 months - we aren’t entirely sure, and the good news could theoretically come any day now. Our two kids were named without us putting too much thought into it, so we’d like to put a little more effort into it this time around.
It’s very hard for us to compromise on boys’ names…right now it looks like [name]Jude[/name] is our front-runner, but neither of us can fully commit to it for some reason. What do you guys think? Is it weird, ugly, interesting, unique?? Does it have bad connotations? Does it sound awful with our kids’ names?
Thank you so much for reading. We’d also really appreciate some suggestions because boys’ names are tough for us. We tend to gravitate toward very popular names so maybe something more unique/less trendy? Thanks again
I love your children’s names. Sure, they’re popular, but that doesn’t make them any less wonderful!
I like [name]Jude[/name]. I like it a lot, but I can’t seem to commit to it as a FN. I tried, it was on my short list for a couple days, but it bounced right back off. I would love to meet a little [name]Jude[/name], though! I think [name]Jack[/name]'s just more my style. It is a MN on my list, though ([name]Grayson[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Jude[/name]), so I’m just happy I get to hold onto it. I think [name]Noah[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], and [name]Jude[/name] are lovely together, though!
It seems like you like softer boys’ names? Maybe something along the lines of:
I’m typically not a fan of the name in general - comes off as a little bland to me. BUT I absolutely adore it with [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]. I don’t think you need to lean towards anything unique, as a “popular” name would fit right in with [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]. From your boys list [name]Jude[/name] is definitely the best, followed by [name]Lucas[/name]. [name]Both[/name] [name]Noah[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], and [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Noah[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], and [name]Lucas[/name] would make a really cute sibset.
[name]Jude[/name] is a good, strong name. But I’m a firm believer that you should name your child something you love not just something that you feel so-so about. Here are a few suggestions that I hope help. And for the record I think [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] are lovely names even if they are quite popular.
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Eli[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]/[name]Luca[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Jude[/name] is pleasant. It’s [name]Judah[/name] I really love though. I would use [name]Jude[/name] as a nickname, personally, but there’s nothing wrong with [name]Jude[/name] by itself.
I think [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] are slightly close though.
[name]Jude[/name] does sound short with [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]. I think in your case I would only use a one-syllable name if I LOVED it, but I am a bit of a weirdo for balanced syllable counts.
Another one of my favorites is [name]Luca[/name]…but is it awkward if all my kids’ names end with the -ah sound? My husband thinks [name]Luca[/name] is too girly but I added it to my list.
[name]Love[/name], love, love the name [name]Benjamin[/name] but a) one of my best friends named his kid [name]Benjamin[/name] two years ago and b) it’s too similar to my last name.
Also really into [name]Gabriel[/name]/[name]Gabe[/name]. I think [name]Declan[/name] sounds really cool but it sounds kind of weird with my last name (plus we’re not Irish, haha).
[name]Love[/name] [name]Jude[/name]! I know the cutest 2 year old boy named [name]Jude[/name] whose family calls him Judels (rhymes with noodles), it’s adorable on him. [name]Hope[/name] you get your good news soon!
Congratulations! It always warms my heart to see the care and intention that same-sex couples put into parenting. Not that it’s different with straight couples of course. But it’s just lovely to see something that’s been fought so hard for (gay people marrying and having kids) working out for so many families. C’mon Rhode Island- get with the program! (I’m in NY too.) Anyway…
[name]Jude[/name] is great. [name]Jude[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is completely solid and gentlemanly. Seems you like names that have a softness, but a solidity also. Some other thoughts, kind of all over the place…
Sorry, I don’t like [name]Jude[/name]. It is way too biblical for my taste, especially paired up with [name]Noah[/name]! Also, it just makes me think of the Beatles’ song. [name]Jude[/name] gets a lot of love on Nameberry and I never understood why. I doesn’t have a pleasing sound imo. [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] are both pleasing to the ear, and then comes [name]Jude[/name], blah.
