What do you think of Killian?

We love the name, but are worried that our little guy will get teased because it’s unusual. I feel like this is more of a problem with boys with uncommon names than girls. Thinking of [name_m]Kian[/name_m] for a nickname. Also, after we’d finally agreed on the name (which took forever because we have completely different tastes) I met a girl named [name_m]Killian[/name_m]. Is this one about to be taken over by girls (like [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m])?

I like it. I think it is becoming more recognizable, and I don’t think a [name_m]Killian[/name_m] would be teased. If you want to avoid possible “Kill [name_m]Ian[/name_m]” jokes, I think the [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] spelling would be best {I love it}. [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is an adorable nickname : ) And no, I don’t think it will ever go to the girls side.

I love [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and [name_m]Kian[/name_m] as a nickname is perfect. I don’t think you have to worry about teasing and I don’t think it’ll become a popular girls name, ever. If you love it, go for it!

I certainly cannot picture this as a girl name. I have never liked this name as the first half of it just conjures up violent images for me.

I think it’s definitely much better for boys and don’t see it happening on girls.
I love it, Ithink it’s a great name! Go for it!

[name_m]Killian[/name_m] is cute, only for a boy though, - Also like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] nn [name_f]Jill[/name_f]/[name_f]Jilly[/name_f] for a girl.

I’m not a fan. I can’t get past the Kill part. Maybe [name_m]Kian[/name_m] as a full name?

I love the name, but I do worry that people can’t see past the ‘Kill’ part. I prefer the [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] spelling because it looks more charming and approachable to me. Kids get teased for absolutely anything, so I wouldn’t let your son possibly being teased because he has an unusual name bother you. I don’t see [name_m]Killian[/name_m] being taken over by girls at all. I think the chances of you meeting another girl [name_m]Killian[/name_m] is pretty low.

I love [name_m]Cillian[/name_m], but I just can’t get behind the [name_m]Killian[/name_m] spelling. Some people have said they can’t get over the “kill” part, and I would agree with the latter spelling. I have no problem seeing past it and embracing the name verbally, but seeing [name_m]Killian[/name_m] written out makes it hard. [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] eradicates that problem for me. I love [name_m]Cian[/name_m] or [name_m]Ian[/name_m] as nicknames!

As far as the gender-bending goes, I wouldn’t worry about it. I doubt [name_m]Killian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cillian[/name_m] will be going all pink anytime soon. Some of my favorite boy names have become unisex – [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] – but I don’t think it poses too big a problem.

Thanks!

I like [name_m]Killian[/name_m] though here it is a kind of beer.

I like [name_m]Cian[/name_m] as a nickname.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about the parents of girls taking it over. Go for it.

I advise against it, I just can’t get over the fact that has “mill” in it

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name, but I agree the spelling [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] is much nicer- I wouldn’t worry about it going to the girls, I think the one you met was a one off

I like it with just one L - [name_m]Kilian[/name_m]. However, I like your NN option as a full name instead. [name_m]Kian[/name_m] is adorable!

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] has hardly been “taken over” by girls (side note: “taken over” is a dumb expression - and I’m not directing that at just at you, because lots of people use it). One famous couple used it for their daughter. I highly doubt you’d meet another female [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] on the street and if you did, I don’t really see how it’s detrimental to the male [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]'s. I’m sure they’ll live lives filled with contentment.

In terms of [name_m]Killian[/name_m], I like it. But I love [name_m]Cillian[/name_m]. I also love [name_m]Cian[/name_m] and [name_m]Kian[/name_m] as separate names, not just nicknames but I do think if you want to use them as nicknames, they work.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Kilian[/name_m], this spelling with only one L, which is widely used in Germany. [name_m]Cillian[/name_m] I like, but it always makes me want to say “sill-ian.” [name_m]Kilian[/name_m] is a favorite of mine and it gets a lot of mixed reviews. Mostly criticism about it containing the “kill” sound and the association with the beer. I like it more than those things bother me, so I think it’s totally doable. I like [name_m]Kian[/name_m] too!
