What do you think of Lirit?

In pursuit to find the meaning of a family name I stumbled across the name Lirit.
It’s Hebrew and means “musical”. I think I would nn Liri (lear-ee). Does anyone know more about this name? What do you think, thumbs up or thumbs down? It probably wont pass the husband test seaming how [name]Lyric[/name] failed miserably.

Sorry, not really a fan. It sort of looks like a typo to me. There are some great “musical” names out there. [name]Do[/name] any of these appeal to you?

[name]Allegro[/name]/a
[name]Aria[/name] (one of the front runners if my hubby and I have a girl)
[name]Cadence[/name]
[name]Calliope[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Etude[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Sonata[/name]
[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Rhapsody[/name] (actually knew someone with this name…she’s in her 20’s now…she got made fun of in our small little town 20 years ago…fyi)

Or you could use a musician’s name
[name]Aretha[/name] - tho I think of a body part…ick
[name]Alanis[/name]
[name]Ashanti[/name]
[name]Beck[/name]
[name]Bowie[/name]
[name]Coltrane[/name]
[name]Denver[/name]
[name]Dion[/name]
[name]Duran[/name]
[name]Ellington[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Hendrix[/name]
[name]Jagger[/name]
[name]Joplin[/name]
[name]Joss[/name]
[name]Lennon[/name]
[name]Morrison[/name]
[name]Morrissey[/name]
[name]Odetta[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Ravi[/name]
[name]Wynton[/name]

This name sounded better to me yesterday. I guess I should take a day to really examine a name.

I do like [name]Aria[/name] but it’s close to my other girls names.
[name]Cadence[/name] I like especially the with the nn [name]Cadie[/name] but I see [name]Caden[/name] - which is part of the whole [name]Jaden[/name], [name]Hayden[/name] trend.
[name]Allegra[/name] appeals to me on many levels. The meaning is great, [name]Aly[/name]/[name]Allie[/name] nn I just can’t get past the allergy medicine with this name and it also reminds me of Viagra.
I do like the others, they’re either just not the one or I can’t sell them to hubby.

I like your idea of using a musician’s name. Unfortunately my husband and I also have varying taste in music. I’d use the name [name]Duran[/name], he would cringe.

Thank you for your honesty it is much appreciated.

That’s what we’re here for
Your daughters are [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name], right? (My puppy’s name is [name]Kyra[/name]…so I just [name]LOVE[/name] your name choices  )

Maybe some of my other favorites will work for you? (If I remember correctly, you don’t want a long first name, right? I’ll weed those out) And sorry if I’m repeating a lot, I can’t remember all that was mentioned

[name]Brielle[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] (though maybe too similar to your other girls, but I love it  )
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]/a

Yep, [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name] are my girls names. I love my dogs name [name]Lola[/name] but darn if we gave it to her and didn’t save it for a third. :frowning:
My youngest (almost 5) was suggesting Ambrielle, I don’t know where she heard it from.
I actually like the nn [name]Bri[/name]/[name]Brie[/name]/[name]Bree[/name]. I ran [name]Brielle[/name] by my husband and got the “it’s okaaaay” come back which pretty much means never.
I love [name]Nora[/name] of course once it’s “okaaaay” by you know who.
[name]Isla[/name] is my name [name]Lisa[/name] scrambled. [name]Isla[/name] is fairly new to me, I need more time to take it in.

We’ve dropped [name]Lea[/name] and [name]Leia[/name] from the running. [name]Lea[/name] is just too much like [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name].

Sorry to say but it looks like a spelling mistake.

What about [name]Lyric[/name] instead? I think [name]Lyric[/name] is a cool girl’s name and it sounds very similar.

Whoops - just saw the end of your note.

Too bad it failed the husband test (those crazy husbands – you really can never tell what they will love or hate. I know I’m constantly surprised by what my husband will and won’t consider, which is why I have to run them ALL by him!!)

I noticed you liked [name]Lea[/name] and [name]Leia[/name] (I [name]LOVE[/name] THIS NAME!! And for some reason, [name]Princess[/name] [name]Leia[/name] isn’t usually my first association with it, but perhaps because I am more familiar with it as a Hawaiian name), have you ever considered [name]Leilani[/name] (lay-lah-nee)? It has a similar feel to [name]Lea[/name] and [name]Leia[/name] but doesn’t sound as similar to your other girls’ names. You could nn her [name]Leila[/name], [name]Lani[/name], [name]Leelee[/name], or even [name]Leia[/name] once in a while. I personally don’t care for Lirit, paired with [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name], it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

That’s really cool that [name]Isla[/name] = [name]Lisa[/name]… that would be really special!
While I like [name]Lea[/name]/[name]Leia[/name] I do think its quite close to [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name].
Are you leaning away from all names ending in “a”? Any names you’re leaning towards? Or any that the hubby actually likes?

PS - I’m LOVING [name]Ruby[/name], as a sister to [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name]

*edited to actually add names…I accidentally posted before I could
Here’s a few more: (no “a” endings  )
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name] (could get the [name]Bre[/name] nn)
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] (ooo! i like)
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Jolie[/name]/[name]Joely[/name] (pronounced either jo-[name]LEE[/name] or [name]JOEL[/name]-ie…i personally like the 2nd)
[name]Haven[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] (can choose a name that starts with an “a” instead of ends with one)
[name]Auden[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Faith[/name]
[name]Josie[/name] (perhaps as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name])
[name]Sloane[/name]

ladybug- I do like [name]Leilani[/name]- the nn possibilities are abundant. [name]Leia[/name] may work it’s way back on the list

ricamaca- We must like a lot of the same names. You’ve listed names that I love that have unfortunately haven’t received my husbands approval.

[name]Iris[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] this name DH doesn’t.
[name]Ivy[/name] - ditto
[name]Phoebe[/name] - His response “[name]Phoebe[/name], from Friends?” I like the possibility of nn [name]Bee[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name] (could get the [name]Bre[/name] nn) - Some one has ruined this name for us :frowning:
[name]Juliet[/name] - again I like it, I even like [name]Julia[/name] or [name]Julie[/name] but take a guess who doesn’t.
[name]Violet[/name] (ooo! i like) - This was my great grandmothers fn and also my sisters mn. It might be possible to persuade you know who with the family ties aspect of this name.
[name]Abigail[/name] - not my favorite but I like [name]Abby[/name].
[name]Claire[/name] - I love it! DH, hears “Eclair”
[name]Hope[/name] - nms
[name]Lucy[/name] - my sisters cat’s name.
[name]Rose[/name] - [name]Rosie[/name] was my other sisters dog’s name. We sure name our pets well
[name]Camille[/name] - nms
[name]Jolie[/name]/[name]Joely[/name] (pronounced either jo-[name]LEE[/name] or [name]JOEL[/name]-ie…i personally like the 2nd) - bad association with the name [name]Joel[/name].
[name]Haven[/name] - nms
[name]Carys[/name] - I do like this name. I’m keeping it in mind for a mn.
[name]Alice[/name] (can choose a name that starts with an “a” instead of ends with one) [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Alice[/name] and it gives the option of [name]Aly[/name] nn that I also love. DH, says it’s “okaaaaay”. It’s on the back up list.
[name]Auden[/name] - I’m so in love with this name it’s sick. nn [name]Audie[/name] is adorable. DH, thinks I made this name up.
[name]Arden[/name] - again a personal favorite for a first or mn. It’s a major road here through town so it’s not met with the same enthusiasm I have for it by DH.
[name]Esme[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name but I’m afraid timing might be wrong because of Twilight.
[name]Chloe[/name] - It’s on the back up list.
[name]Faith[/name] -nms
[name]Josie[/name] (perhaps as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name]) - [name]Josephine[/name] is a family name so is [name]Josie[/name]. It was an option for #2 but has lost it’s zeal. Still a great name though.
[name]Sloane[/name] - I could really see as a mn.

Our top girls list right now -

[name]Ruby[/name] - We’re having a hard time finding a mn that we love.
So far [name]Ruby[/name] Mikio, [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Lane[/name], [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Aly[/name] - [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Alison[/name] might be options but I like them more than DH
[name]Olivia[/name] nn [name]Ollie[/name] - I hate that this name is so popular but it was the first name everyone including my girls agreed on.
[name]Daphne[/name] - it’s the least favorite of our favorites but also the lest popular.

I’m so sad that your husband doesn’t like these names! Is there any name that he LIKES? That might help me try to think of something you’ll both like. (I hope he likes [name]Violet[/name]…or maybe [name]Viola[/name], or [name]Violetta[/name])

Have you thought of either [name]Livia[/name] or [name]Olive[/name] instead of [name]Olivia[/name]? I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Livia[/name], but my goddaughter’s sister is [name]Olivia[/name] :frowning: It also has the added bonus of being of Italian background, just like [name]Mia[/name].

I know a little [name]Phoebe[/name] (her brother’s name is [name]Zeke[/name]!) and she erased all thoughts of Friends for me. I think people think of Friends right away, but its quickly erased once they meet your little sweet pea!

Now about [name]Auden[/name] This is what nameberry, says. You sooo did not make it up, it has history. I would do a google search about it. You can find some interesting things to show hubby. It might help him come around to it.
[name]AUDEN[/name]
Gender: F
Origin: English
Meaning: “old friend”

Softly poetic surname name, associated with poet W.H. and enjoying quiet but marked fashion status, chosen for his daughter by [name]Noah[/name] Wyle. Definitely one to watch.

If hubby thinks “eclair” what about [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Clarissa[/name] (or possibly [name]Larissa[/name])?

Here’s some possibilities for the nn [name]Aly[/name]/[name]Ali[/name]:
[name]Alaina[/name] (here you get “[name]Lane[/name]” which you like as a mn for [name]Ruby[/name])
[name]Alia[/name] (my sister’s name, though she doesn’t use a nn I still think it would work, but you could also use nn [name]Lea[/name] here too)
[name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Alessa[/name]
[name]Aletta[/name]
[name]Allouette[/name]
[name]Alicia[/name]
[name]Alissa[/name]

I think [name]Daphne[/name] is cute! Maybe you’ll think some of these are? (it feels British to me, so here’s some “D” names or British Feeling names  )
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Delia[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Georgina[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Tierney[/name]

He’s a tough cookie but of course I think the name you pick for your child should be one you both love. Unfortunately for most of us that means letting go of some favorites. He likes names that aren’t to frilly, sound “made up”, too masculine or are too long.
The thing with [name]Olivia[/name] that we both like is the nn [name]Ollie[/name]. My sisters actually suggested [name]Olive[/name].
I love [name]Auden[/name]. [name]Audie[/name] [name]Murphy[/name] actually gives this name an added bit of history that actually might win it over more for a boys name than for a girl. Another name I like (he doesn’t) is Aderyn. We both like the name [name]Ada[/name] but we have a niece named [name]Ava[/name] and that pretty much closes the book on that one.

I love [name]Alaina[/name] and [name]Alia[/name]! [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], and [name]Alia[/name] are too much alike?
Your right [name]Alia[/name] does have the possibility of both nn’s that we love. [name]Mia[/name] was almost [name]Malia[/name]. Thanks to my sister an esthetician for constantly telling us that it reminded her of milia which are tiny white bumps or small cysts on the skin. So yeah a pimple. :stuck_out_tongue: to her.
[name]Allegra[/name] - dang allergy medicine ruined it for me but all in all it’s a beautiful name with a lovely meaning. I hope to meet some little [name]Allegra[/name]'s some day.
He actually likes the name [name]Matilda[/name] which I seriously never thought he ever would.
The catch is he doesn’t like [name]Mattie[/name] for a nn and I’m not sure about [name]Tilly[/name] (it is growing on me though).
[name]Delaney[/name] - I absolutely love this name! It’s a solid no from DH. Party pooper.

Yes, I agree that Lirit is a bit “out there.” I love [name]Lyric[/name], so too bad your hubby isn’t up for it! Mine is hard to please too… I feel your pain!

[name]Mia[/name], [name]Kira[/name] and…

[name]Violet[/name] – loved this suggestion by a previous poster. [name]Vi[/name] is a cute nickname!
[name]Ruby[/name] – delightful! It’s goes very well with your girls’ names. [name]Bea[/name] as a nn? Or [name]Rue[/name]?
[name]Matilda[/name] – doesn’t flow as nicely with your other names but [name]Tilly[/name] is a really cute nn.

Some thoughts on other names suggested:
[name]Alia[/name] – depends on how you pronounce your daughters’ names… right now I’m assuming “MEE-ah” and “[name]KEER[/name]-ah.” If that’s the case, then [name]Alia[/name] rhymes with [name]Mia[/name] and is definitely not a good idea!

As much as I love [name]Auden[/name] too, I can’t help but think of the word “odd.” I also tend to think of this (and [name]Arden[/name]) more as a boy’s names.

[name]Olivia[/name] – Perhaps another “[name]Ol[/name]” name? [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Olwyn[/name], Oliviana, Olma, Olivera, [name]Olena[/name]. Or even just “O” names that “[name]Ollie[/name]” could be derived from: [name]Oakley[/name], [name]Octavia[/name] ("[name]Ottie[/name]" rather than “[name]Ollie[/name]”), [name]Odelle[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Ophelie[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Ottoline[/name]*.

*The only name that I would actually consider using.

[name]Just[/name] throwing out some ideas!

When it comes to other musical names have you considered…

[name]Alla[/name] --‘in the manner of’ (= French: la)

[name]Brio[/name] --Italian: vivacity, fire or energy

[name]Vesper[/name] – Vespers is the evening service of the Divine Office

Vivace (“vih-VAH-chay”)-- Vivace, lively, is commonly used as an indication of tempo.

I think [name]Alaina[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] would go great with your girls…you’re right, [name]Alia[/name] is probably too close to [name]Mia[/name]…DARN! With [name]Alaina[/name] you could probably pull off [name]Leia[/name] and [name]Aly[/name]. I think [name]Tillie[/name] is really cute, btw! You could also just see what happens as far as nn’s go. We actually called my sister [name]Alia[/name]-Sangria for years, it still occassionally comes up. Oh, and also Pooh bear, Ducky, and French fry…all completley unrelated to her name
