What do you think of Montague?

[name]Hi[/name] nameberries,

We are now considering [name]Montague[/name] for our first baby, which is a boy. It would be great to know what people think of it? Please be honest. I love nn [name]Monty[/name] and [name]Mo[/name].

Also do you have any good suggestions for a middle name?
Currently I like [name]Montague[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] Swift or [name]Montague[/name] [name]Bennett[/name] Swift. (Swift is a family surname rather than a choice) our last name ends in T.

Thank you!

I quite like it. It is very distinguished and handsome. I also like [name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name].

[name]Montague[/name] Swift has to be one of the coolest names on the planet. Very striking, yet approachable via the nicknames you mentioned.

[name]Montague[/name] is amazing, I love the name. Especially with Swift! Very cool indeed, I’d love to meet a boy with that name!

Although I prefer [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Montague[/name] works! I like it paired up with [name]Bennett[/name].

[name]Montague[/name] [name]Lionel[/name]
[name]Montague[/name] [name]Keir[/name]/[name]Ciar[/name]
[name]Montague[/name] [name]Benedict[/name]

I like it. [name]Montague[/name] Swift is gorgeous.

I have to disagree with everyone… I absolutely hate it… It sounds like a chemical company

Chemicals have names like isosulfan blue or 1,25- dihydroxybenzamine. Companies which manufacture them are called Bio-[name]Rad[/name] or Invitrogen or [name]Dow[/name]. There is nothing remotely chemical about [name]Montague[/name]-- you might worry that it sounds a little prissy or rarefied or something, but not synthetic.

Thanks for the responses. I love [name]Montague[/name] and especially nn [name]Monty[/name].
Does anyone feel the child would get teased at school though? Or do you think that there are so many unusual names around these days that [name]Monty[/name] doesn’t really stand out as being that weird? I had an unusual name at school and loved being different.
Thanks

Depends very much on where you live and who he’d be going to school with. [name]Montague[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name] might have it rough in a sea of Braydens and Jaxons. If your friends name their children things like [name]Olive[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Jules[/name] or [name]Sequoia[/name], you’ll be fine.

Nah, I don’t see any problems with it. Kids are called anything and everything! Montague is super cool and handsome, more a name to be admired than ridiculed. But of course, it depends on where you live and what kind of school you’ll send your child to.

Edit: …and I agree with the above, wrote this while Bladey posted…

I really like it

I quite love the idea of a little [name]Montague[/name] Swift running around! I’ve always wondered about the teasability of [name]Montague[/name] as well, but I find it less pretentious (and overrated) than the more popular [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Romeo[/name]. It’s been a while since I’ve read [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name], so I’m not sure how much I’d like the association of [name]Montague[/name], but I do think it’s a very cool name and I’d love having a name that came from [name]Shakespeare[/name]! I agree with @blade–if the kids around you have names like [name]Olive[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Jules[/name], and [name]Sequoia[/name], I think little [name]Montague[/name] would have no problem at all.

[name]Just[/name] want to warn you, when I first read the play, I said this name “Mon-tog.” The pronunciation is not intuitive. But other than that, it’s fine. A little bit prep, but fine.

[name]Montague[/name] is ok …[name]Montgomery[/name] is nicer .

First association with [name]Montague[/name] is [name]Montague[/name] St in [name]Brooklyn[/name], then [name]Bob[/name] [name]Dylan[/name]'s mention of it in “Tangled up in [name]Blue[/name],” then [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]. It seems so mundane to me because I live in [name]Brooklyn[/name], but I’m sure it wouldn’t read that way to most.
Like [name]Avalon[/name], I prefer [name]Montgomery[/name]. So dashing! Either way, [name]Monty[/name] is a winner. I knew one - full name [name]Montgomery[/name], I believe. Very intelligent, interesting old man, and (at the risk of sounding like I’m fabricating this- I’m not!) a poet and a falconer.

I prefer [name]Montgomery[/name] to [name]Montague[/name] but probably because we have [name]Montague[/name] Road in my city. I love [name]Monty[/name]! While I like [name]Montgomery[/name] I never could imagine actually using it but I love [name]Monty[/name] as a nickname!

I like [name]Montague[/name] and have heard it a few times here in the UK, not in real life but mainly on Telegraph/Times birth annoucements. I know of a little [name]Monty[/name] too.

I would consider it quite a posh name and maybe a bit hard to carry off but with the nn [name]Monty[/name] I think it is very usable, go for it!

Ok, that is too cool! My boyfriend gave me falconry training lessons for my birthday, but I have to wait until baby is here.

Anyways, [name]Montgomery[/name] is nice too. I think of [name]Montgomery[/name] Castle, and [name]Percy[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name] (rugby player, quite delicious).

I don’t think that’s fair to say, one it’s just an opinion, we all get different feelings or ideas when we hear names and none are right or wrong. It’s just something that comes to mind when she hears the name. [name]Eastman[/name], DuPont, Lyondell(now LyondellBassell) and Monsanto are all chemical companies do not sound synthetic.
