My husband and I are TTC and I’ve already come up with my list of favourite girls names (trying to ignore the fact that I might have a boy!). Here’s my current top ten. What do you think? BTW, these are in alphabetical order, not favourite order.
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
I guess you can tell my style veers toward the old-fashioned British names! I love [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name], but I’m worried they’ve become too popular. Any further suggestions of names I might also be keen on would be greatly appreciated! Also, any pairings/suggestions for middles, would be great too, if you have the time! Thanks
ITA [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] have become common so if you don’t like that then they’d make great MN’s. My favorites are [name]Florence[/name] NN [name]Flora[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] NN [name]Josie[/name].
All are winning choices! If popularity is something that concerns you, you may want to steer clear of [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] (but they are darlings). [name]Elizabeth[/name] is another popular one; but honestly, all of these names are ones that I would consider classics.
My favorites from your choices are: [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Alice[/name], and [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Alice[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Susannah[/name] are all in my top 5! Gorgeous names!
[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] I like a lot.
Not a huge fan of the others, of course none are bad. [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Florence[/name] are just too old lady for my taste, [name]Victoria[/name] sounds dated to me, and [name]Sophie[/name] I could take or leave.
I love your style- classic, feminine-but-not-frilly, as you call them “old-fashioned British names”. [name]Just[/name] gorgeous! I’ll rank them favourite to least favourite, and add a couple comments:
[name]Victoria[/name]- what I call “beautiful and feminine yet strong”. and I love the [name]Queen[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] connection
[name]Helena[/name]- same as [name]Victoria[/name]- a beautiful name with weight and historical use in the British royal family
[name]Elizabeth[/name]- same as [name]Victoria[/name] and [name]Helena[/name]- and there’s also [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Bennet[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]- spunkier, more modern and more down-to-earth, but equally lovely
[name]Charlotte[/name]- a name this classic can never go wrong
[name]Alice[/name]- simple but sweet and pretty, and [name]Princess[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is another of my favourite historical royals
[name]Susannah[/name]- a very upbeat sound- I would imagine a [name]Susannah[/name] to be a friendly, sociable and spunky girl
[name]Audrey[/name]- classy and yet sultry, like [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn
[name]Florence[/name]- old-lady, yes, but totally vintage chic
[name]Josephine[/name]- the only one on your list I don’t like, just sounds harsh to me
I love most of these! My favorites are [name]Helena[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], and [name]Victoria[/name]. Have you thought about [name]Sophie[/name] as a NN for [name]Josephine[/name]. You could get two for one and I think it’s adorable
[name]Susannah[/name] is an absolute favorite of mine! Can’t decide whether I prefer it with or without the “h”. Beautiful name with cute spunky nicknames that you just don’t hear anymore! [name]Susannah[/name] is the winner in my book.
Oh, but just to be clear- ALL those names are lovely [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] would be my other favorites. I do agree that [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] are gorgeous. In my area they are very popular but classic names like those are the names you should just use anyway!
dillonsfan01 -You just BLEW MY MIND! [name]Sophie[/name] as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name]? Brilliant! I’ll give some serious consideration to that one!
bonfireazalea - [name]Just[/name] realised I’m pretty much naming [name]William[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]'s future daughter! I really hope Catherine doesn’t choose one of my favourites! My other worry is my cousin who is expecting and named her first child [name]Beatrice[/name], so she’s bound to choose something I like for her second as well!
[name]Alice[/name] - Classic and fun.
[name]Audrey[/name] - Feminine but very strong. I like it.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Eh. Feels ubiquitous and somewhat plain.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - No less pleasant and classy for all its popularity.
[name]Florence[/name] - Old lady name. I’m not a fan of the sound, personally.
[name]Helena[/name] - Gorgeous.
[name]Josephine[/name] - Definitely a so-uncool-it’s-cool name, with lots of great nns.
[name]Sophie[/name] - I like it better than [name]Sophia[/name], but its popularity is definitely a concern.
[name]Susannah[/name] - Beautiful and unusual but familiar
[name]Victoria[/name] - Pretty, but always sounds vaguely snooty, especially with nns [name]Vicky[/name] and [name]Tori[/name].
My favorites are [name]Alice[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Susannah[/name].
I like [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] (but have sort of been loving [name]Elisabeth[/name] recently), and [name]Audrey[/name] from your list!
coolcat33 - I’ve thought of everything! Haha. [name]Juliet[/name] is also on my longer list, and [name]Alexandra[/name] would be, except we have a niece named [name]Alexa[/name], so it’s a bit too close. I’m not much on [name]Corinne[/name], but thanks for the suggestions! [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is lovely Audrey is actually my grandmother’s name, so I’d like to include it even if it’s a mn, but I really like it as a name independent of my grandmother!
[name]Audrey[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] are all on my favorites list. [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is one of my favorite combos. I’m also a fan of [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name]. Great choices
