I recently met a women named océan ([name_m]French[/name_m] word for ocean). I fell in love with it and think when we have our next baby and if it’s a girl It would be her name. Opinions?
I love it! I would maybe spell it [name_f]Oceane[/name_f] and have no accent just for the sake of pronunciation (I see you’re in NY) and simplicity for the child, but otherwise totally useable!
Ps I love your daughters name [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]! It was my guilty pleasure name for my daughter and I have some regrets not just using it.
It is a usable name but i would be super hesitant to name my child an uncommon french name in an english speaking country. If i lived in [name_m]Quebec[/name_m], there are so many names that i would love to name my child, one of my all time favorites being Maëlle ([name_f]Maelle[/name_f]). There will be countless people mispronouncing it or just asking how to say it which i’m sure doesn’t sound like a big but it probably gets really annoying and might happen with Océane as well. Now that being said, if you are head over heels for this name, i say go for it because that is really all that matters. Océane is beautiful and don’t let this one post stop you from choosing your favorite name, it’s just one person’s opinion.
Are you sure her name was Océan? the right spelling in [name_f]France[/name_f] is Océane…I’m sorry but i’ve never liked this name.
Probably a good idea! Thank you! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your kiddos names!
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful, I think its worth the correction.
I’d spell it [name_f]Oceane[/name_f], without the accent. I think it’s a beautiful name!
I really like Océane. It’s unusual and pretty, with a nice meaning.
The spelling Océane really has grown on me. Of course I still love the Océan spelling (just me being [name_m]French[/name_m]) but Océane would be a better spelling for a babe growing up in NYC.
I love it and while there may be some confusion as to how to pronounce it, I think you just have to tell someone one time and they will have it. I’ve only met one and she went by the nickname (sounded like OH-she) but I much prefer the full name.
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f] is so beautiful, I love it. I think it could definitely work (some people might pronounce it like ocean at first, but it’s easy to correct), and it fits so nicely with your other childrens names (which are stunning, by the way!)
I would also use [name_f]Oceane[/name_f] if you’re in the US (accents get left off and are not used in legal paperwork most of the time), but don’t be surprised when you have to correct the pronunciation often. I expect a lot of people to just think it’s [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]-with-an-E. However, I think it’s beautiful and it would go well with your other children’s names.
its lovely, but I think pronouncation in the US is going to be difficult.
I know how to pronounce it in [name_m]French[/name_m], but how do you pronounce it in English?
I don’t like it. I know a [name_m]French[/name_m] kid with the name and she’s gorgeous but I just don’t like the oh-sey sound at the start of the name.
We would be pronouncing it the [name_m]French[/name_m] way! My family all speaks [name_m]French[/name_m] including my children
I met a girl called [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. She has lovely. [name_u]Bright[/name_u] blonde long curly hair she really suited her name. I prefer the [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] spelling.
