We’re due a surprise in [name_f]April[/name_f], so we’re starting to think about names! We want one girls’ shortlist and one boys’ shortlist, and at the moment we’re struggling! So it’d be great if people could give their opinions our names and suggest any others that are similar. We like Welsh names as my other half is Welsh and we live in [name_m]Wales[/name_m], so pronounciation isn’t too big an issue, but we like fairly strong, modern names that we can shorten easily, rather than classical ones, and we like place names - particularly American places, as there’s relevance towards my name in that sense. Also in places we’ve got first names with no middle name to go with it and vice versa, so suggestions would be great - either from the names we’ve already got, or ones that you think would go with it.
(For those unfamiliar with Welsh, Celyn is pronounced [name_m]Kellin[/name_m])
I think [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is so spunky and cute! That is my pick from your list. I also like [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_u]Harley[/name_u], but agree that if you’re due in spring…
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is my favorite by a mile. Cool, sophisticated, just a hint of exotic.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is my second favorite.
I also like [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but only as a NN for [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_u]McKinley[/name_u] would be a strong but fun name.
I have never been a big fan of [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], and it would be strange on a baby born in the spring.
Celyn just reminds me of how much I like [name_u]Keelin[/name_u], and seems boring in comparison.
[name_u]Albany[/name_u] nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f]… just can’t get on board. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it isn’t usually my style, I would kind of like to see a little [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f].
[name_u]Albany[/name_u] - I know there are other places named [name_u]Albany[/name_u], but my main association is the Capitol of NY. My sister lives there, as do many of my college friends. It’s about 3hrs away from me and I go there several times a year. I think most people around here would find [name_u]Albany[/name_u] a VERY odd place to name a child after. Be ready for some puzzled reactions from some [name_m]New[/name_m] Yorkers she might meet. [name_f]Ally[/name_f]'s a cute NN though.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] MN [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], would make a great first, too!
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] are my favorites but I’d prefer full names with [name_f]Callie[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as nicknames. I have a nickname as a given name ([name_f]Molly[/name_f]) and always wished my parents had given me a proper name, as I’m not a puppy. But you know, some people don’t mind having nickname-names. I know an adult [name_f]Callie[/name_f], not short for anything, who wears it well.
I have no problem with an [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] born in [name_f]Spring[/name_f]!
Welsh names: love [name_u]Seren[/name_u] and [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], which are streamlined and modern like your other favorites, but I know they’re much more popular where you are.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u]?
My favourite names are [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and my favourite combo is [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the idea of a little girl named [name_f]Alaska[/name_f]! It’s too cute!
Some full names for [name_f]Evie[/name_f]: [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_f]Evenie[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Neva[/name_f],
I’m loving [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u]! I think she’d probably be [name_f]Eve[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] if we went for that, although I do really like [name_u]Everly[/name_u]! Also loving the idea of [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f], need to see if I can get the other half on board for that one!
I love [name_u]Seren[/name_u] but we live with a [name_u]Seren[/name_u] at the moment and that might put OH off, although we won’t be living with her when little one arrives.
I’m not a fan of [name_u]Albany[/name_u], but love the nickname [name_f]Ally[/name_f]. Since you like American places, I’d name her after the [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] city [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Ally[/name_f]. I know you don’t like classic names and [name_u]Albany[/name_u] may work fine since you live in [name_m]Wales[/name_m], but I think the association with the city of [name_u]Albany[/name_u] in the U.S. isn’t such a good one.
When I see [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], I can’t get past the ingredient that people use when cooking.
I like [name_f]Evie[/name_f], Celyn, and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], and unlike most berries, I don’t think you can only use a season name if the child is born in that season. I actually think naming an [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] baby [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is somewhat cheesy. In my opinion, [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] has become a name in its own right and can be given to any baby born any time of year.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] sounds beautiful to me.
On that front, why not [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] as a first name? Other place names that might work (I don’t know much about Welsh names, sorry):
Thanks I love [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] but not sure OH would go for it. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], will suggest them, and also love [name_m]Austin[/name_m] but think OH sees it exclusively as a male name. The only thing against [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] for a first name is just that it doesn’t jump out at us as a first name.
