What do you think of Scotlyn/Scotland

Hey guys! What do you guys think of the name Scotlyn or [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] for a little girl?I’ve met many Hollands and Hollyns so I don’t see why Scotlyn or Scotland would be too unusual. A little back story here, my dad was named [name_u]Scott[/name_u] and he passed away when I was in elementary school. So I wanted to find a more unique way to honor him than naming my son [name_u]Scott[/name_u] or using Scott as a middle name. I think the nickname [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] would be really cute with the more feminine Scotlyn or [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. Another option for a boy would be the name “[name_m]Hutch[/name_m]” which was my dads nickname. Anyway I just wanted some opinions!

I really wouldn’t use [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] on a child and Scotlyn sounds a bit silly. Have you considered [name_u]Scout[/name_u]? There are some place names that aren’t bad, but this isn’t one of them. But then again if you love it use it

I like [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]! It’s a bit too attached to the country for me but [name_f]Kourtney[/name_f] Kardashian’s daughter is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], named after her father, [name_u]Scott[/name_u], so it can definitely work as an honor name there. Scotlyn isn’t my favorite but I think it works too. I would prefer just [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].

Scout is really cute! [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is it might sound childish on an adult. But it’s still really cute and spunky and totally my style!

I think it’s pretty cool! I’m usually not into geographical names, but I like this one!

I do prefer the suggestion of [name_u]Scout[/name_u] but [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] is interesting and pretty cool too

Oh, I love Scotlyn or [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]! Particularly Scotlyn. It’s adorable as a namesake.

I think Scotlyn is so sweet! It’s a really nice balance of masculine and feminine. I love how it isn’t too common, it would be a perfect name that’s uniquely hers and something she would be able to grow into unlike [name_u]Scout[/name_u] which sounds quite childlike and it’s a lovely way to remember your dad! Absolutely love it!

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], which is odd because I don’t mind [name_u]Holland[/name_u], [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], etc. Maybe it’s because it sounds masculine to me. I’m not sure. And I think Scotlyn looks unfinished somehow? I do love that you’re trying to honor your dad, though. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I want to do the same for my dad and his step-dad (both named [name_m]John[/name_m]) if we have another child. I would maybe try Scottlyn so it looks less like a misspelling of [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and more like a name chosen to honor another name. I also just really like [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] on it’s own. I think it’s cute and sweet and could work on a child or an adult.

I like [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] as well! I just worry it’s too masculine for a little girl, although I’ve met girls named [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] so it could work!

I personally don’t think it’s too masculine. As you said, there are girls named [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. And [name_u]Stevie[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] and…lol Boyish names for girls is SO common anymore that I don’t think anyone would bat an eye.

To be perfectly honest, I think it’s a name that might sound fine in the USA but would sound bizarre to an actual Scottish person.

Yes that is a concern, especially because I have Scottish family, that’s why think I would probably go with Scottlyn or [name_u]Scottie[/name_u].

I knew a girl in my freshman year of college named [name_u]Scout[/name_u]! I believe she was an animal science major? It totally worked for her so I think that could be an option.

That’s great to hear! I think you guys are really making me fall in love with the name [name_u]Scout[/name_u]!

I really like [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]! I’m not too keen on Scotlyn (personal choice) but can definitely see it on a little girl. [name_m]Hutch[/name_m] is very cute for a boy too.

I agree with this completely. While it might sound okay in the USA, as a person who lives in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], it really does seems bizzare. I don’t really like Scotlyn either, but it does seem a lot less odd.

I LOVE [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. I think it’s a beautiful, striking name for a littler girl and [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] is so cute. We named our little one [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and I’m a little sad I’ll never get to use [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] now. (Too similar time have a [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] and a scout?)

The sentiment is lovely but I can’t say I’m a fan. In saying that, because I personally dislike made up names/the ‘lyn’ suffix I much prefer [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. I do on the other hand love [name_u]Scout[/name_u]! I definitely think it can work on an adult. So many names with a similar vibe are used these days so I don’t see why not. I think [name_u]Scout[/name_u] works well as a subtle way to honour a [name_u]Scott[/name_u]!
