What do you think of Sidney?

Could I ask for opinions on the name [name]Sidney[/name] for a boy? Does this name sound ok [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Fairchild[/name]-Linley? Thankyou

[name]Sidney[/name] is a little too feminine for me, mainly because I know three girls with the name [name]Sydney[/name]!

I don’t like it on either gender , but I’d pity a girl stuck with it more than a boy.

I don’t like it sorry…he would get teased for having a name that soooooo many girls have…its just not strong or masculine sounding

I really love it on a boy, but I fear it may be a bit feminine now because I know several girls named [name]Sidney[/name].

I really like it! To my mind, [name]Sidney[/name] on a boy is much nicer than [name]Sydney[/name] on a girl. And the whole name together sounds very dashing.

To me while [name]Sydney[/name] for a girl is sleek and sophisticated [name]Sidney[/name] for a boy conjures images of pocket protectors and nerdiness.

[name]Sidney[/name] is great on a boy, and much nicer being used on the right gender.

I know of twins named [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Sidney[/name] and I think that is amazing.

[name]Sidney[/name] [name]Fairchild[/name]-Linley sounds very posh, not a bad thing though but it does give me a very upper class vibe.

Thanks everyone, interesting you all think of it as a girls name. I would never guess [name]Sidney[/name] was a girl! sheflieswithherownwings yes the name does sound posh! To be honest I think thats my fiance’s surname, so poshness will be unavoidable. [name]Even[/name] boring names sound posh next to it! His family are posh, upper class with small estate etc. Was a little intimidating meeting them to start with! Thanks for the response - was very useful. Anyone else got an opinion on it?

[name]Sidney[/name] was my grandfather’s name so I definitely think of it as a boy’s name and I really like it. I think the nn [name]Sid[/name] is all boy (though that could be because I’ve never met a girl [name]Sidney[/name]).

I honestly love [name]Sidney[/name] (or [name]Sid[/name]!) for a boy. To me, it’s one of the rare names that works for either sex very well, but I prefer it for boys. It’s really cute for a little guy, and I think it will grow well with him into adulthood. I don’t understand the “nerdy” image some previous posters mentioned…nameberrys should be more open-minded! I think [name]Sidney[/name] should make a comeback!

I think [name]Sidney[/name] is a good name for a boy. Have you ever read “A Tale of Two Cities?” And there’s also an excellent actor named [name]Sidney[/name] Poitier.

But I’m not sure it’s best paired off with a surname that also has an “-ey” ending.
Personally, I prefer to not choose a first name that has a similar ending.

I love the name [name]Sidney[/name]!

I love the name [name]Sidney[/name] for a boy. It is one of my favorites. I don’t care for [name]Sydney[/name] on a girl.

I much prefer [name]Sidney[/name] on a boy and [name]Sydney[/name] on a girl, even though I don’t really like ANY spelling of [name]Sidney[/name] on a girl. :frowning:
