What do you think of Tandy?

Really loving the name [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] (rhymes with [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] and [name_u]Mandy[/name_u]) right now for a girl. What are your thoughts on the name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any ideas for siblings names that would go with it? I would love to name my daughter this but worried it will make it difficult to follow. Thanks!

[name_f]Tandy[/name_f] sounds kinda made up. Maybe it would make a better nickname than a first name. It fits in with all those other names like [name_f]Brandy[/name_f], [name_f]Candy[/name_f], etc. that don’t appeal to me much. But if you really like it, you should use it.

I really do not like [name_f]Tandy[/name_f], just like pp, it sounds made up.

I like it !

I actually really have a soft spot for [name_f]Tandy[/name_f]. The other ‘[name_u]Andy[/name_u]’ names aren’t my thing but this is ok. I also like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f].

I first heard [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] in the show Cloak and [name_m]Dagger[/name_m], and at first I really didn’t like it, but it started to grow on me. And as a former [name_u]Mandy[/name_u], I think it’s totally useable, especially as a nn.

There are only two roots for [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] thay I’ve found with a validly sourced etymology.

One is as a surname, derived from [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], which I don’t love the idea of.

The other is as a variant of nickname [name_f]Thandie[/name_f]/Thandi for the Xhosa, Zulu, and Ndebele names [name_f]Thandiwe[/name_f] and Thandeka, which could fall into cultural appropriation territory if you aren’t from one of those groups or the African diaspora.

Either way it’s either a surname-name or a nickname-name and I’m generally not a fan of either. Full disclosure I’m not a fan of [name_u]Sandy[/name_u]/[name_u]Mandy[/name_u]/[name_f]Candy[/name_f] sounding names anyway but that’s just personal preference and there are definitely more valid reasons than that to not be in favor of this name.

[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] could be a nice alternative. Underrated flower name with a similar sound to [name_f]Tandy[/name_f].

I quite like it! It reminds me of [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] whixh I also love!

Some sibling names I’d consider are

[name_f]Tandy[/name_f] and…

[name_u]Dessie[/name_u]
[name_f]Suri[/name_f]
[name_f]Suki[/name_f]
[name_f]Jovie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Josette[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Suvi[/name_f]
[name_f]Corva[/name_f]

It sounds a bit made up to me, sorry!

I think [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] is okay, but it does sound more like a nickname to me.

It’s not bad but I prefer [name_f]Tansy[/name_f].

I actually don’t mind it.

Not sure where you live but in [name_m]Fort[/name_m] [name_m]Worth[/name_m] the [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] family were huge players back in the day with major corporations, parks, city buildings, etc named after them. There’s still a touch of that around so for me it’s easy to see [name_f]Tandy[/name_f] as a real option with much more gravitas than the [name_f]Candy[/name_f]/[name_u]Mandy[/name_u]/[name_f]Brandy[/name_f]’s of the world. It feels somewhat historic rather than sugary.

It sounds a bit plain and made up, but it did make me think of a British actress called [name_f]Thandie[/name_f] [name_m]Newton[/name_m].

Didn’t know it was in this show, thanks!
