I know an [name]Andrea[/name] who always goes by [name]Andie[/name], and I really don’t care for either name, personally. It doesn’t help me that [name]Andie[/name] means “manly,” either. Sorry!
Some other names that you could get [name]Andie[/name] from are [name]Andra[/name] and [name]Andreina[/name], but I don’t like those too well, either, and I doubt you will if you don’t like [name]Andrea[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you want a nickname name, or do you just really like [name]Andie[/name]? Here are some other options: [name]Abbie[/name] (“joy of the father”), [name]Aggie[/name] (“virtuous, good”), [name]Edie[/name], [name]Hallie[/name] (“praise the [name]Lord[/name]”), [name]Ivie[/name], [name]Lottie[/name] (“free”), [name]Maisie[/name] (“pearl”), [name]Nellie[/name] (“light” - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Nell[/name]), and [name]Sadie[/name] (“princess”).
If you really want [name]Andie[/name], I like [name]Andie[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] the best.
I actually really love the suggestion of [name]Cassandra[/name]… Thank you so much
I used [name]Columbine[/name] because of this assembly about the first girl killed there, strangely enough named [name]Rachel[/name], that I had about a year ago. I don’t know how to explain it, but it almost felt as if I had a connection with the girl, even though I had never met her before. The assembly touched my heart, and the [name]Columbine[/name] massacre happened no more than 30 minutes from my house. I know it has a very sad relation to the school, but it still has a lot of meaning to me, and good is coming from the bad now (because of the people at the school and the victims).
For [name]Andie[/name], I think of the main character in “[name]How[/name] to Lose a [name]Guy[/name] in 10 Days” (yes, that’s probably sad, but I do!). She was gorgeous and a bit sassy and I think the name suits that. I voted for [name]Andie[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. I also love the idea of [name]Cassandra[/name] nn [name]Andie[/name]!
I don’t know if I like the name [name]Andie[/name] for a formal name, but I voted for [name]Andie[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]June[/name] with the idea that you are contemplating suggestions for a first name other than [name]Andrea[/name] to use [name]Andie[/name] as a nickname. I like [name]Cassandra[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name] (or [name]Alexandria[/name]). I don’t dislike [name]Andrea[/name] per se, but it has always bothered me that the root word for ‘man’ is part of a girl’s name and means ‘manly.’ [name]Alexander[/name]/[name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name] include this root also, but meanings are modified by other parts of the name to mean, respectively “defending/helping man(kind)” and “shining upon man(kind).”
I think [name]Andie[/name] isn’t in popular use for boys named [name]Andrew[/name] (going more often by [name]Drew[/name] than [name]Andy[/name] for the time being), and yet not completely unheard of for a girl. I have never known anyone name [name]Andrea[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], or [name]Miranda[/name] to go by [name]Andie[/name] - they would be (still just) [name]Andrea[/name], [name]Alex[/name]/[name]Ali[/name]/[name]Lexie[/name]/[name]Sandy[/name], [name]Cassie[/name]/[name]Sandy[/name], and [name]Mindy[/name]/[name]Mandy[/name]/[name]Randi[/name], respectively.
[name]Andie[/name] reminds me of [name]Andie[/name] MacDowell, whose full name is [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] MacDowell. [name]Anderson[/name] has got to be probably the most masculine name ever if we are going by meanings! But it is probably a family name. She seems to go by “[name]Rosie[/name]” otherwise, so I don’t know whose idea it was to promote her under the name [name]Andie[/name]. It also reminds me of [name]Molly[/name] Ringwald’s character in “Pretty in [name]Pink[/name],” so I feel it’s sort of 80s but not thoroughly so like “[name]Jennifer[/name].”
My name is [name_f]Andie[/name_f]! It is a nn for [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. I actually like my full name but no one would ever use it, they kept calling me [name_u]Alex[/name_u], which I hated so I became [name_f]Andie[/name_f]. Generally I like it. I don’t find that people mistake it for a male name because the spelling is distinctively feminine. I am with you on disliking [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] as a full fn for it and I think it could work as fn on its own. I voted for [name_f]Andie[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] because I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is fresher than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and it is nice with a unisex fn to have a distinctively feminine mn. I also like [name_f]Andie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but having read your explanation about [name_f]Columbine[/name_f], if it meaningful to you then you should use it. I like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as the second mn for it.
