What do you think of the name Chrysalis?

Pronounced [name_u]Chris[/name_u] - Suh - Liss.

It’s the name of the casing that encloses a butterfly until it is ready to evolve into an adult. Once the butterfly completes its maturation and growth, it emerges from the chrysalis.

What do you think of this name? I love the sound of the name and I like the nicknames that could sprout from it [Chrissie, Liss, [name_f]Chrissa[/name_f], etc].

It’s out there, but I wouldn’t mind seeing it. Maybe as a middle? It is pretty sounding.

It has a pretty sound and meaning. I like the nn possibilities.

It comes off as a bit strange at first but I can see it being fairly easy to get used to. It does have a pretty sound and a cool meaning.

I think it works but I’m not really a huge fan of it! It’s a really strong word name in my opinion

I don’t think it sounds weird at all! It sounds like a combination of [name_f]Chryssa[/name_f]/the beginning of [name_f]Christine[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f], all very familiar names. And the meaning is cool!
I personally don’t love it, because [name_u]Chris[/name_u]- names feel pretty dated to me and I don’t like [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. But I can see the appeal!

It’s a little weird to me… just too biological sounding

I don’t think I like it? I feel like it’s sort of a nature equivalent of using [name_u]Baby[/name_u] as a name. At some point, a child will complete their maturation and growth, and I think at that point it becomes a little weird. Like for someone named [name_u]Baby[/name_u], there will come a time when they’re not a baby anymore so it feels like their parents named them for only one specific time in their life, almost as though they wanted them to stay that way. I think it’s pretty up until it stops being relevant. Then it becomes weird. Sorry.

I fear that there may be confusion with Syphilis

I admit this was my first thought.

It does have a nice sound though - maybe as a middle?

Chrysalis is one of my favorite guilty-pleasure names! I actually knew a girl in high school who had the name; it really suited her and I don’t remember anyone making disparaging comments about it.

Not a fan. Too science-y (this is coming from a scientist). Maybe its comparable to being a farmer and seeing someone try to name a baby Kubota - it might just seem like a cool word to many but to a farmer, it’s a tractor). I also think spelling it would be incredibly challenging for many.
