What do you think of the name Eero?

So I just found it and the name [name_m]Eero[/name_m] really jumped out to me. Its a Finnish variation of [name_m]Eric[/name_m] and I find it very appealing… I just cant decide if its too outlandish for an American audience. What do you think? Can you think of any names it would flow well with?

Well I think people would always pronounce it like Ear-o, but that’s not correct (see forvo). So yeah, I think it’s not a good candidate for export. It could be worth trying to make it work if you actually are Finnish, but otherwise it seems a peculiar choice.

I think it’s quite a nice name, but I actually prefer just plain [name_m]Eric[/name_m].

I had a brief love affair with [name_m]Eero[/name_m] a couple of weeks back. It faded due to a lack of certainty with regards to pronunciation and the fact that it feels foreign no matter how many times I say it out loud. Might have something to do with the similarity to [name_m]Arrow[/name_m], which I don’t like.

I love Finnish names though
[name_u]Valo[/name_u] (light) is my current favourite for a boy. Vieno (gentle), [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] (summer) and Lumi (snow) for girls.

I love the name, but like the others have mentioned, the pronunciation would no doubt be butchered. I honestly don’t think it would work too well outside of Finland, but it could make a snazzy middle…?

I am a lover of the [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]/[name_m]Aro[/name_m] sound as well as Nordic names in general and [name_m]Eero[/name_m] fits both of those ideals.

At first glance I would pronounce it like the word hero without the H. I like it pronounced this way. At second glance I would guess “euro” like the currency, and at third I gave up and tried to find the pronunciation online… is it pronounced like “arrow”?

I think this would be a difficult name to get people to pronounce properly, something I’m not certain a three year old should be burdened with. Never the less, I really really like the (mis?)pronunciations “ear-o” and “euro”… I don’t really like the (correct?)pronunciation “arrow” though… Also, I love the way it looks on paper, even if I couldn’t read it off said paper with any confidence

I say if you love it go for it! – but go with the expectation that you’ll need to say the name a couple times for it to sink in for some people.
