I want to like [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. It has all the reasons to: short, vintage, literary and confident but I just don’t like saying it - it makes me say it like “[name_m]Newman[/name_m]” on Seinfeld. If you go with it, it will of course be said with love!
It’s one that’s growing on me. I like the e beginning, the possibility of the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and how the sounds are quite distinct from other names
Haha - I love that you found a link to Seinfield! Thanks for your feedback
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] is one of my very favourite girls’ names, so of course I love it! It’s such a quiet, mystical, soulful name – beautiful. I actually find it very feminine, although not in a conventional way.
I prefer the pet-forms Eeny and Niddy to [name_f]Edie[/name_f], but [name_f]Enid[/name_f] doesn’t need a diminutive unless you would like one. It would go beautifully with [name_f]Lyda[/name_f].
I don’t know if you need suggestions for middle names, but here are some ideas that would emphasise [name_f]Enid[/name_f]'s flowery side.
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Oriole[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Irena[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] Lilwen
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] Hesper
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Astraea[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]
I voted neutral. It has a lovely meaning, but I don’t love [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. I hear Eeeee-nid. Maybe you could go with [name_f]Ena[/name_f] instead or as a nickname?
You’re probably not looking for suggestions, but what about [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]? [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]? They are of the same origin and have lovely meanings, They offer more nickname possibilities, as well.
If you’re going to use [name_f]Edie[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Edith[/name_f] as the full name. For some reason I don’t hear a long E with [name_f]Edith[/name_f].
[name_f]Lyda[/name_f] is a lovely name! Nice choice!
I love [name_f]Enid[/name_f].
Suggestions for mn (flower names or meaning “love”):
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Petunia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Blossom[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Begonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Posey[/name_f]
[name_f]Darlene[/name_f] (tenderly loved)
[name_f]Priya[/name_f] (the dear one)
[name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] ([name_f]Goddess[/name_f] of love)
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] (esteemed and beloved)
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] (beloved child)
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] (ardent)
I don’t know why, it’s a great name and all but I just don’t like it. What about [name_f]Edith[/name_f] as a previous poster suggested?
I love [name_f]Enid[/name_f]! Probably because I was obsessed with [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Blyton’s Famous Five series when I was a kid! She was a very talented and smart businesswoman - but was lacking as a mother (according to her children). Still, I think she would be a strong namesake for a girl to grow up having! Downside is if you like nicknames, there aren’t any that seem very natural. My son has a name without many nickname options, and I find it slightly annoying and end up calling him random names that have nothing to do with his name!
I really like it. It’s quirky and nerdy to me and sounds like a girl from the 1920s/30s.
Not ready for a comeback in the US. Perhaps in the UK, though.
Thanks for you input! I’m from Australia so I guess we kind of sit on the fence between American & UK culture.
I’m not really a fan, it still sounds a bit grumpy old lady to me. I’d choose [name_u]Eden[/name_u] as an alternative.
That being said, I do think [name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is quite lovely, as well as [name_f]Enid[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
Best of luck!
