My husband nd I just can’t agree with a on a boys name. I keep coming back to [name]Gulliver[/name], but my husband won’t budge, he doesn’t like it. He told one of his male co-worker buddies that I was considering [name]Gulliver[/name] and I guess he just laughed at that name. My husband hasn’t even come up with one helpful name since we found out I’m pregnant, but has no problem shooting down every name I mention. He just jokes we should name him king, our last name is [name]Arthur[/name]. I am not naming him king arthur. What do you nameberries think if [name]Gulliver[/name]? Is it really that bad? Should I just tell my husband to shove it, and use the name anyways if it’s a boy?
I personally like [name]Gulliver[/name], but I think that it’s a tough name to carry for a little kid. And I’m not a fan of the flow of [name]Gulliver[/name] [name]Arthur[/name], the similar sounds at the end of both names puts me off. But [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] is terrible, I hope he was joking because your child will get teased a lot (even though [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] is awesome). Is there a reason that you’re leaning towards [name]Gulliver[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you like the sound of [name]Gulliver[/name] or the literary connection? Also, I’m not sure how well [name]Gulliver[/name] goes with [name]Cassius[/name], but that’s just me and I think of those types of things. Are there any names that you like but don’t love? Might help us find you another name that your hubby will come around on.
It’s got a great sound, but it’s hard for me to not put “'s travels” after it. I think it’s a bit unwearable, and the co-worker’s reaction may not be that far off from what most people will say about it behind your back. If you love it, though, I think it could work on the right personality.
It is a interesting choice, and parents are branching out more on names for their children. It is not my style, but I love the literary connections it has.
I think [name]Gulliver[/name] is a good name.
There really is no reason I like it. I haven’t read the book. I like the sound of the name, and that it’s not common (though there seems to be a reason for this). Now that I am saying [name]Gulliver[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] out loud I don’t think I like it as much. And it does not go well with [name]Cassius[/name] at all that’s for sure, though that doesn’t bug me to much. I know if i told my dad I liked [name]Gulliver[/name] he would love it.
Other names I have like
[name]Leland[/name] - I don’t like the way I say this with my accent
[name]Gable[/name] - husband thinks it girly,mi kind of see his point
[name]Hiram[/name]/[name]Hyrum[/name] - my side of the family along with lots of family friends will know this name as a very mormon name, i haven’t considered myself Mormon in 6 or more years.
[name]Ezra[/name] - same as [name]Hiram[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name] - a bit to popular
[name]Odin[/name] - to plain, would need an awesome middle name
Roman - good name nothing wrong with it
Tesla - I’m not that brave
Giles - good name, husband thinks its to English/posh
I think [name]Gulliver[/name] is wearable but not the best with your surname. I don’t consider [name]Hiram[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] to be Mormon names - just Biblical, maybe a little Southern. [name]Both[/name] are on my list. I also don’t think [name]Gideon[/name] is too popular. If you really love a name, popularity doesn’t matter.
It sounds like your husband is being stubborn and doesn’t want to make decisions. If your son comes and your husband still won’t offer anything other than [name]King[/name], I dare say you’ve got the right to name your son whatever you want. From your list, [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Hiram[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] are my favorites. Good luck!
I think part of my husbands stubbornness/unwillingness to help with the boys name is because he is really hoping for a girl. He was very helpful with girls names and even submitted some of his favourites. Which were all very pretty, classic girls names and one of which is our top 2 favourite potential girl names.
I guess I just find [name]Hiram[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] mormom because I grew up with 2 [name]Hiram[/name]'s/hyrum and and one [name]Ezra[/name], and know of one more [name]Baby[/name] [name]Hiram[/name], all from church. [name]Both[/name] those names are Mormon apostles, I can see me offending at least a couple people using [name]Hiram[/name]. Although if I loved either of those I wouldn’t care.
[name]Lori[/name] I really like the name [name]Caspian[/name] but my sons name is [name]Cassius[/name], so they are just to similiar. Also I really really really like [name]Sullivan[/name], maybe even love it. [name]Will[/name] defenitly be adding [name]Sullivan[/name] to the top of my list. I love this forum everyone always brings such fresh insight and reassures me about my choices. Defenitly helps lessen the stress.
I like the suggestion above of [name]Sullivan[/name], I also thought [name]Solomon[/name] when I initially read your post, not sure if you like that or not. I do not think [name]Gideon[/name] is overly popular, I have yet to meet anyone with this name, but maybe you have.
It’s 100% tied to [name]Gulliver[/name]'s Travels, and, even though the book is a classic, the character in the book would make for a really awkward namesake. It also think that it goes poorly with your surname, but that might just be me ([name]GullivER[/name] [name]ArthUR[/name].) I would strongly discourage it.
If you’re really set on it, might I suggest [name]Tolliver[/name] as a less loaded alternative?
I don’t like the name [name]Gulliver[/name]. All I can think of is [name]Gulliver[/name]'s Travels and the word gullible. [name]Tolliver[/name] is a cute alternative if you still want the “er” ending, but I think a pp’s suggestion of [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] is great!
