Would love your honest feedback!
My mother chose that name for me and it was my name for about 5 days of my life, personally I really don’t like it and I’m glad that she changed her mind. Sorry!
It’s not my favourite Shakespearean name but I like that literary connection and the [name]Portia[/name] spelling. Unfortunately, it has a big drawback: it sounds like the car brand name [name]Porsche[/name]. If that doesn’t bother you and you love it, go for it!
I like the name alot. I feel as though it’s not a berry favorite. I would test this name with non-name-nerds to get a better feel for how others view the name.
It has a long history, but the meaning kills it for me.
I don’t like it very much, I am sorry.
Not a personal favorite, but it hasn’t hurt [name]Portia[/name] DeRossi any. It’s a long established literary name that unfortunately sounds just like a car brand (although most Americans don’t say that final sound…)
Beautiful name.
Bad connection with the car.
Bad meaning.
I wouldn’t use it.
I checked up the meaning after I read your post, and I agree with you. I was going to say that it is a alright name, but I changed my mind.
I’ll be perfectly honest – we named our first pig [name]Portia[/name], just for that reason We then decided to keep a Shakespeariam theme going for her sister ([name]Viola[/name]).
It means pig. And it sounds like [name]Porsche[/name]. Those two things kind of overshadow any perceived prettiness for me.
I do like [name]Portia[/name] as I think that the character in the Merchant of [name]Venice[/name] is great. The ‘pig’ meaning is unfortunate, though if you search it through Google you will find that there is some disagreement as to whether or not this is its actual meaning. I’m not saying that pig isn’t the true meaning, but I found a good argument about its true meaning being ‘port/harbour’ somewhere.
I like it, but it reminds me firstly of the car, then the word portion. The negatives outweigh the positives for me on this one.
