I’m curious about the name [name]Zoe[/name]. The only thing I know about it is that it was a character fron sesame street. Despite that, it has sparked my interest and I’m curious what other berries have to say about it.
I like this spelling, because [name]Zoey[/name] just looks like [name]Joey[/name] to me, but what are your thoughts?
I also love the pronunciation in spanish, So -AY. But are there any other ways to say it besides that and [name]ZO[/name]-ee?
Middle name ideas? I am always wondering about that. Thanks!!
[name]Zoe[/name] was the name of a Byzantine empress so it’s a name which has a long historic legacy. Part of its charm is its energetic and spunky sound. Its an old name with a contemporary feel to it. I only like it spelled [name]Zoe[/name]. [name]Zoey[/name]/[name]Zooey[/name] etc… just look ridiculous to me. I like to combine it with something more vintage in style like [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Helena[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Millicent[/name].
I really like [name]Zoe[/name] a lot (spelled this way too!) I went to high school with a girl who pronounced it zoy (like boy), but spelled [name]Zoe[/name]. Her family was from Greece. I’d say about half the people at school called her zoy and the other half called her zo-ee, and she never seemed to mind either way… I think the Spanish pronunciation is very pretty too
I used to prefer [name]Zoey[/name] but now prefer [name]Zoe[/name] since I tend to lean towards the most traditional spellings. I HATE the spelling [name]Zooey[/name] with a passion. If the actress is ever mentioned, I call her zoo-ee instead of zoh-ee. WHY the extra o??? Rant over, haha. Oh, and don’t like [name]Zoie[/name] either… looks really weird to me.
The only other pronunciation I can think of is just zoh, as in designer [name]Rachel[/name] [name]Zoe[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t really like it.
Thanks for the history, [name]Mischa[/name]! I didnt realize that it was the name of an empress, so that makes me like it even more!
[name]Julia[/name] johanna, the Zoy pronunciation is nice. Thanks! I loved being called by the spanish version of my name when I was in Mexico, I felt like I was fitting in more that way, so I can see why [name]Zoe[/name] didnt mind.
Jennipea, i dont like zooey either. But Zoie isnt so bad… I kinda like it.
I could definitely see Zo as a nickname, but not as the full name pronunciation. Thanks! I’m glad you mentioned the things you didnt like, I actually liked some of them!
I like [name]Zoe[/name] a lot! It has a bit of a youthful vibe but it’s been around for millenia–if not as a name, then as a word. I remember learning the words “zoe” and “sofia” when I took Greek my first year of college–I was so excited every time I saw them because I knew what they meant, haha! Life and [name]Wisdom[/name]. I actually really like [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Sofia[/name] as a combo, too. Very Greek and pretty. I like [name]Sofia[/name] [name]Zoe[/name], too…
All the pronunciations I’ve heard have been listed here already. I only really recommend [name]Zoe[/name] (or [name]Zoe[/name] with the accent on the “E”), but I’ve also seen [name]Zoey[/name], [name]Zoie[/name], Xoie, Xoey, Xoe, [name]Zooey[/name], etc. I do have a bit of a GPish trendy interest in [name]Zoie[/name] and Xoie, but I wouldn’t use them for my life, haha. That would be a bit horrid to deal with in real life!
I also sort of like [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] and [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Lilibet[/name]… Or [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Aurelia[/name]? I think [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is pretty as well.
When I see the spelling [name]Zoie[/name] it makes me think it should be pronounced “zoy”. I guess my mind thinks oh the spelling is different because it’s not pronounced like [name]Zoe[/name]. But that might just be me.
I only like the [name]Zoe[/name] spelling. [name]Zooey[/name] to me is a different name entirely, zoo-ee. I think a longer middle name would pair up nicely, [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Jessica[/name].
Thanks for the comments, berries! [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is beautiful!! But [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a close relative’s name (I dont want to name after her), and [name]Olivia[/name] is a bit too popular but the style is what I would like with [name]Zoe[/name]! [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name] is lovely but a little too adventurous for me, and [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Claire[/name] also sounds great but I’m not in love with it. But the ideas are helping anyway as usual!
It seems pretty clear that the [name]Zoe[/name] spelling is the way to go. Thanks!
[name]Ash[/name], I dont like the name [name]Sophia[/name], but I did love [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name]!! Too bad [name]Rebecca[/name] is my DH’s Ex’s name. Another favorite bites the dust.
Not sure about [name]Zoe[/name] yet, still brainstorming. It has everything I like, modern, classic, history, popular but not too popular, the meaning, yet I feel like it’s missing something, maybe because I’ve never met any Zoes. Any out there?
Thanks for the idea, but I would never use different characters or accents in a name, I feel llke it would be too complicated. That’s funny that it seems too common for you, I dont know anyone with that name. I know Chloes, but no Zoes, oh I did have a [name]Zoe[/name] in my first grade class, but that was in Mexico, so I was wondering if there are any American Zoes too.
[name]East[/name] and SJ, I might end up using [name]Elizabeth[/name], because I put it on my poll. It really has a great flow with [name]Zoe[/name], so thanks!
