Niahm

Thanks again everyone! You are SOOOOOOOOOOO helpfull!!! xox

[name]Callista[/name] and [name]Annika[/name] are my favorites from your list. Secondly, I like [name]Bridget[/name] and [name]Teresa[/name]. My LEAST favorites are [name]Adair[/name] (too masculine), [name]Selma[/name] (not ready for a come-back, imo), and [name]Mila[/name] (a bit unsubstantial). Most of the others are quite nice.

[name]Fiona[/name]-I like it
[name]Bridget[/name]-its dated to me… Not good nicknames… I wouldn’t use it
[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name]-meh… I like it ok… I like [name]Ella[/name].
[name]Adair[/name]-don’t like it at all
[name]Norah[/name]-meh… I like [name]Sora[/name] so much more
[name]Mila[/name]-[name]Love[/name] love love
[name]Lucille[/name]-don’t like the full name but I do love [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Selma[/name]/[name]Salma[/name]-yuck… I get a slimy sound and it grosses me out
[name]Theresa[/name]–I hate this name… [name]Tessa[/name] I [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]DOROTHY[/name]-YUCK totally old lady
[name]Ramona[/name]-like it… I’m warming up to it
[name]Beatrix[/name] its ok… Good for the middle
[name]Catriona[/name]-its [name]Katrina[/name] its still a hurricane
[name]Callista[/name]-[name]LOVE[/name]
[name]ANNIKA[/name]-pretty… But this was my favorite when I was like 6 sooo I’m totally over it
[name]Florence[/name] /[name]Flora[/name]-not a fan at all
[name]Niamh[/name]-neve… Hard to spell… Doesn’t wow me… Not my favorite

[name]Fiona[/name]- love this name but I can’t shake the stupid Shrek references >:(
[name]Bridget[/name]- nms, it sounds too harsh imo
[name]Eleanor[/name]/a- I prefer it without the a at the end, it’s a classy name that is coming back in vogue with [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name] as a nn
[name]Adair[/name]- not my favorite for a girl, it sounds too masculine
[name]Norah[/name]- this one is on my list too!
[name]Mila[/name]- I personally wouldn’t use it because all I think is [name]Mila[/name] Kunis, which isn’t a bad thing, but it feels almost like [name]Beyonce[/name] in that sense
[name]Lucille[/name]- I like [name]Lucy[/name], but not [name]Lucille[/name], it sounds old lady to me and not in a good way
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]- [name]Salma[/name] Hyeck. Same problem as [name]Mila[/name]
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]- nms
[name]Dorothy[/name]- this is my grandma’s name! She goes by [name]Dottie[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]- nms, [name]Ramona[/name] the Brave
[name]Beatrix[/name]- I like it, it seems fresh
[name]Catriona[/name]- nms, I think it’s the ending I don’t like
[name]Callista[/name]- nms
[name]Annika[/name]- nms, although I do know someone with the name and it suits her
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]- nms and I dislike the nn [name]Flo[/name]
[name]Niamh[/name]- short and sweet but would have pn issues anywhere but UK

[name]Fiona[/name] - so pretty, but a little “princessy” due to Shrek
[name]Bridget[/name] - so strong and elegant. I can’t see why this isn’t used more
[name]Eleanor[/name] - one of my favorite names, but I fear she’d get lost in a sea of Ellas and Ellies
[name]Eleanora[/name] - same
[name]Adair[/name] - trying too hard
[name]Norah[/name] - classic and cute, can’t go wrong
[name]Mila[/name] - too trendy
[name]Lucille[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name] - I like [name]Selma[/name]…[name]Salma[/name] is too much like salmon or salmonella
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name] - BEAUTIFUL
[name]Dorothy[/name] - great old fashioned spunkiness
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name] - [name]Romy[/name] is my favorite nickname for [name]Ramona[/name] as well
[name]Beatrix[/name] - More old fashioned spunkiness. I like it.
[name]Catriona[/name] - not my style
[name]Callista[/name] - feels very modern and frilly to me, whether thats good or bad, I don’t know
[name]Annika[/name] - I like [name]Annika[/name]. You just made me realize that. I don’t know why I didn’t realize it before, its very pretty. Thanks!
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - I like [name]Flora[/name]! It seems very fashionable to me yet not trendy in the least. I think [name]Flo[/name] would be hard to avoid with [name]Florence[/name]
Niahm - I’m in the US and I don’t think this name would be understood here, at least not in the area where I live

Overall, I like your list a lot. My faves would be: [name]Annika[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Teresa[/name]. Good luck!

I’ll give you my first impressions –
[name]Fiona[/name] – love this, it is uncommon but recognizable, has energy to the name, and will suit her well at all ages.
[name]Bridget[/name] – I like this a lot and considered it myself…whenever I said it out loud, however, something turned me off about it. I can’t even describe it.
[name]Eleanor[/name] – like, but it is too popular for me (maybe it even feels more popular than it actually is, because it blends in with all the “[name]El[/name]-” names. The two Eleanors that I know go by [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name], which is uber popular in my area.
[name]Eleanora[/name] – see above. I do like [name]Eleanora[/name]/[name]Nora[/name], though!
[name]Adair[/name] – like it
[name]Norah[/name] – love it. Could be cute nn for [name]Eleanora[/name], too
[name]Mila[/name] – I love the name [name]Mila[/name]! So cute and spunky, I think it is a beautiful name. Would age well, too.
[name]Lucille[/name] – this one feels too dusty for me.
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name] – eh, not a huge fan.
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name] – love!! [name]Tessa[/name]/[name]Tess[/name] are faves of mine.
[name]Dorothy[/name] – I actually like [name]Dorothy[/name] a lot!
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name] – I like them both, very cute!
[name]Beatrix[/name] – love it!
[name]Catriona[/name] – nms…I trip myself up when saying it, and it reminds me of [name]Catalina[/name] dressing when seeing it on paper.
[name]Callista[/name] – I like it a lot! I am surprised it isn’t more popular, actually. [name]Callie[/name] or [name]Cat[/name] would be cute nns!
[name]Annika[/name] – love [name]Annika[/name] and almost used it myself…it never suited any of my girls, though.
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] – I can see the appeal; I don’t feel strongly about this one either way. I prefer so many other names on your list, though.
Niahm – love it! Of course you would have prn issues, but that wouldn’t hold me back from using a beautiful name.

My top four from this are [name]Eleanor[/name] (nn [name]Nell[/name]), [name]Mila[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name] (love [name]Bea[/name] as a nn) and [name]Florence[/name].

I like [name]Bridget[/name] best…[name]Bridget[/name] [name]Adair[/name] would be a beautiful combo!

My second favorite is [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] sounds nice.

*** For [name]Eleanora[/name] i would use the nn [name]Nora[/name]… For [name]Eleanor[/name] I would use [name]Leni[/name]! Not sure if this makes a difference to anyone…

I agree… I dont like all the [name]Ella[/name]'s and Ellies!!!

While your family is a fascinating ethnic mishmash, I think you do have to keep in mind that you named your first son [name]Joseph[/name] [name]James[/name], and anything too exotic or “ethnic” (horrible word) might seem a little jarring.

You’ve got a few styles:

Crisp and no-nonsense:

[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Adair[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]

[name]Lacy[/name] and Frilly

[name]Eleanora[/name]
[name]Catriona[/name]
[name]Callista[/name]

Antique throwbacks

[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]

Heritage-honoring charmers

[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]
[name]Niamh[/name]

Neither fish nor fowl

[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]

I think the heritage names are a little jarring with your son’s name. The last group is the Goldilocks “just right” batch- interesting, feminine names that are neither frilly nor try-hard. I like the first group of the crisper options too.

[name]Fiona[/name] - Really lovely.
[name]Bridget[/name] - The first thing that comes to mind is snooty rich girl
[name]Eleanor[/name] - It’s pretty nice. I love the nickname “[name]Ellie[/name]”. I do see that name coming up more and more on message boards so I think it will start increasing in popularity
[name]Eleanora[/name] - like [name]Eleanor[/name] better
[name]Adair[/name] - Sounds too masculine for me
[name]Norah[/name] - This name is getting very popular. But despite the popularity, I still find its sound like a name for a 50 year old.
[name]Mila[/name] - Very lovely.
[name]Lucille[/name] - I like [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Lucia[/name] better to be honest.
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name] - Eh, not my style
[name]Teresa[/name] - Sounds dated to me.
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I love [name]Wizard[/name] of [name]Oz[/name], so I can’t fully hate on the name…but it does still sound a little bit old-ladyish
[name]Ramona[/name] - So cute.
[name]Beatrix[/name] - Prefer the [name]Beatrice[/name] spelling
[name]Catriona[/name] - Not sure how it’s pronounced. But don’t like the look of the name.
[name]Callista[/name] - I like it, but not in love with it
[name]Annika[/name] - Same as [name]Callista[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - I like it. But there could be possible “Aunt [name]Flo[/name]” jokes.
Niahm - Honestly have no idea how to pronounce that.

@blade! Thanks! I like your classification!
Technically DS is J0sef P@trick J@mes! lol! We threw the irish middle name in!
But your are probably right that some of the more “international” names could sound odd!

My opinions:
[name]Fiona[/name]- very cute and spunky! I love it!
[name]Bridget[/name]- Cute, classic… but a little bland
[name]Eleanor[/name]- Very sweet, I like it!
[name]Eleanora[/name]- Sounds kind of made up, though I love [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Adair[/name]- Reminds me of [name]Fred[/name] Astaire, so it feels masculine
[name]Norah[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Nora[/name], I don’t like the H in [name]Norah[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]- I don’t really like it, I feel like people will use multiple pronunciations
[name]Lucille[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], not quite ready for a [name]Lucille[/name] comeback
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]- I prefer [name]Selma[/name], [name]Salma[/name] puts [name]Salmon[/name] and Salmanella in my mind
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]- I really like [name]Tessa[/name]… maybe if [name]Teresa[/name] was a family name, otherwise I’d just use [name]Tessa[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]- Not quite ready for this one yet
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]- It doesn’t feel feminine to me. It feels tomboyish. I don’t like [name]Romy[/name] for sure.
[name]Beatrix[/name]- This is one is so spunky I can’t help but like it. I’d use [name]Bea[/name] as the nn
[name]Catriona[/name]- this looks made up
[name]Callista[/name]- I like [name]Callie[/name], but not [name]Callista[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]- I really like this one!
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Flora[/name], not ready for florence
Niahm- maybe I have a thing with "h"s… I really don’t like this

Good luck!!

[name]Fiona[/name] - Very pretty but a bit lackluster. I used to love love love it, but now I’m just not that impressed.
[name]Bridget[/name] - Dated. Also, when all the Irish immigrants came over to [name]America[/name] in the 1800’s, and tried to find work, it was very popular. So all the [name]Bridget[/name]‘s had to change their names to sound more American, so they would be hired. It became sort of derogatory.
[name]Eleanor[/name] - It’s nice, but bland. I think of [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Roosevelt[/name].
[name]Eleanora[/name] - The a adds this flourish to it. It makes it much prettier and fresher and fantastic. I like the nn Nory, but [name]Nora[/name] is adorable too.
[name]Adair[/name] - This seems like such a “mean girl” name. I can’t imagine a sweet little girl who likes to read wearing it.
[name]Norah[/name] - Nice and quiet and simple. Might be just a tad dated though.
[name]Mila[/name] - Attached to [name]Mila[/name] Kunis. It’s just too big of a connotation.
[name]Lucille[/name] - I love this one. I think it is so ready for a comeback. [name]Lucille[/name] is just vintage and adorable. It makes me think of [name]Junie[/name]. B. [name]Jones[/name]’ best friend in the books, and I [name]Love[/name] [name]Lucy[/name].
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name] - Hm… not quite sure on this one. I think I like [name]Selma[/name] better because [name]Salma[/name] reminds me of salmon. [name]Selma[/name] is nice. Sounds kind of old though. Which might be a good or bad thing…
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name] - [name]Tessa[/name] is nice, [name]Teresa[/name] is dated.
[name]Dorothy[/name] - Very cute. There is a girl at my school named this and she wears it well. I think there should be more little Dorothys running around.
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name] - [name]Fan[/name] of [name]Ramona[/name], but [name]Romy[/name] is just masculine, like [name]Remy[/name]. [name]Ramona[/name] is quirky and cute though.
[name]Beatrix[/name] - I like it a lot. It’s common enough but I never hear about a person in real life named [name]Beatrix[/name]. I like [name]Bea[/name] and [name]Birdie[/name] for nicknames.
[name]Catriona[/name] - I really like irish names, but this is dated. It screams 90’s to me.
[name]Callista[/name] - I have a bad connection with this name, so I don’t know what to say.
[name]Annika[/name] - I think it’s nice. I think maybe this sounds like you’re trying to hard to be fresh. Maybe? I don’t know…
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - Very pretty and vintagey. [name]Florrie[/name] and [name]Flossie[/name] are adorable nicknames too.
[name]Niamh[/name] - I love it. Irish and simple and pretty, though the spelling might be difficult. It’s worth it though.

Good luck!

[name]Fiona[/name]- [name]Favorite[/name] girl name ever. It’s my daughter’s name and I’m still totally in love with it.
[name]Bridget[/name]- Has always sounded a bit harsh to me.
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Eleanora[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t care for any variation of this name. I like plenty of “old lady” names, but to me this one sounds like an uptight, stuffy old lady.
[name]Adair[/name]- Not sure about this one, just because I’m generally not too big a fan of surname names on girls.
[name]Norah[/name]- I like it.
[name]Mila[/name]- Really pretty.
[name]Lucille[/name]- Sounds very retro cool.
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]- I can only think of [name]Marge[/name]'s sister [name]Selma[/name] on The Simpsons.
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]- I’d just go with [name]Tessa[/name] if you’re going to use it as a nn anyway. [name]Teresa[/name] is okay, just sounds a little dated to me.
[name]Dorothy[/name]- Partial to this, as it’s my grandmother’s name. Another one that’s retro cool.
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]- I love this. Sounds strong and pretty at the same time.
[name]Beatrix[/name]- I like it, prefer it to [name]Beatrice[/name]. The X adds some spunk.
[name]Catriona[/name]- Probably destined for mispronunciation, though I do like it.
[name]Callista[/name]- I think this is so pretty and exotic sounding.
[name]Annika[/name]- Like.
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]- I like this, but I’m not sure how much of my fondness comes from the name itself vs. loving [name]Florence[/name] and the Machine.
Niahm- See [name]Catriona[/name].

[name]Fiona[/name]- [name]Fiona[/name] is a classy name to me. I wouldnt use it, but I see the appeal.
[name]Bridget[/name]- I love this name, but sadly cant use it for various reasons. I think its pretty, and ages well.
[name]Eleanor[/name]- I have mixed emotions about [name]Eleanor[/name]. Its a little too vintage for my style. Although the nn leni makes me love it.
[name]Eleanora[/name]- Cute. I love the nn nora(h).
[name]Adair[/name]- Not a fan.
[name]Norah[/name]- I love it, it just seems nick-namey to me, even though i know it works as a stand alone name.
[name]Mila[/name]- Seems like a nn. What about [name]Milena[/name], or [name]Camila[/name], or [name]Camille[/name]? [name]Even[/name] camellia could work.
[name]Lucille[/name]- Elegant, and classy. Ages very well. I love the nn [name]Lucie[/name] for a little girl.
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]- Not a fan. Especially since it clashes with your sons name. [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Selma[/name]? I dont like it.
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]- Its nice its just SO OLD. [name]Tessa[/name] works as a stand alone name.
[name]Dorothy[/name]- Vintage but cute.
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] IT. [name]Ramona[/name] is soo cute, and [name]Romy[/name] is adorable!
[name]Beatrix[/name]- This is also very cute, and would age well.
[name]Catriona[/name]- Personally I like the [name]Katrina[/name] spelling better, people in the US are more familiar with it;
[name]Callista[/name]- On my list as well. I love it, and its meaning, and the potential nicknames.
[name]Annika[/name]- Also on my list, although sometimes it makes me think of annikin skywalker (sp?)
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]- Cute, and suits all ages well.
Niahm- Did you mean [name]Niamh[/name]? I love the name niamh, but honestly dont think it goes well with your sons name.

Some suggestions:
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Susanna[/name]
[name]Margaux[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Eliora[/name]

@rhiataylor… I did mean [name]Niamh[/name]! hahah!

Of your suggestions i [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name] but Dh has already rejected it! :frowning:

The idea of [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Susanna[/name] have started growing on me but I have some associations with those names that I dont know if i can get over?

[name]Callista[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] are my two favorites. I like the idea of [name]Norah[/name] too.

[name]Fiona[/name]: [name]One[/name] of my absolute favorites! It feels fresh and modern to me.

[name]Bridget[/name]: A bit dated and bland.

[name]Eleanor[/name]: Sweet, but not my taste.

[name]Eleanora[/name]: I like this version a bit better.

[name]Adair[/name]: A great name, but all boy to me.

[name]Norah[/name]: I like this quite a bit. A good nickname for [name]Eleanor[/name]/a.

[name]Mila[/name]: [name]Love[/name] this! So pretty, and I can see this aging well.

[name]Lucille[/name]: A bit fussy. I like it for a middle name.

[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name]: Never cared for either.

[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name]: [name]Teresa[/name] seems dated to me. [name]Tessa[/name] is okay, not my taste.

[name]Dorothy[/name]: I adore this! So sweet.

[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name]: I’ve never cared for it, but it’s starting to grow on me.

[name]Beatrix[/name]: [name]Love[/name] this! Classic yet modern.

[name]Catriona[/name]: Not really my taste.

[name]Callista[/name]: I love the idea of this name, but something doesn’t click with me.

[name]Annika[/name]: Eh. No good reason for not liking it, I just don’t.

[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]: I find [name]Flora[/name] quite charming. [name]Florence[/name], I like, but much prefer in the middle.

[name]Niamh[/name]: Looks gorgeous, dislike the actual pronunciation.

[name]Fiona[/name] - nice, classic, maybe boring. [name]Fionola[/name]/[name]Fionnuala[/name] ?
[name]Bridget[/name] - meh, it’s nice. maybe as a middle.
[name]Eleanor[/name] - love it!!!
[name]Eleanora[/name] - I like it in theory, but I think it’s a bit much for my tastes. Prefer [name]Lenore[/name], [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Elnora[/name]
[name]Adair[/name] - I liked this for a boy for a while, but its a linen store in Aus so probably couldn’t do it.
[name]Norah[/name] - one of my very faves. I toss between [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Norah[/name], but both are great. You could use this as a NN to some of the above suggestions
[name]Mila[/name] - way to plain and trendy compared to what you have on this list.
[name]Lucille[/name] - OK
[name]Salma[/name]/[name]Selma[/name] - nms, too witchy
[name]Teresa[/name] nn [name]Tessa[/name] - nah
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I really like this name, [name]Dorothea[/name] would perhaps modernise it a bit.
[name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Romy[/name] - nms
[name]Beatrix[/name] - eh, this is such a flavour of the month name. I do like [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name] though hehe
[name]Catriona[/name] - Yeah I actually like this
[name]Callista[/name] - like, and I like [name]Callie[/name] and [name]Calla[/name]
[name]Annika[/name] - OK
[name]Florence[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] - [name]Flora[/name] all the way!
Niahm - assuming [name]Niamh[/name]. It’s OK, it doesn’t excite me.

You have some of my very favourites! [name]Norah[/name], [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] especially.
