What do you think of these names? *Need to narrow down list*

If you could only choose 5, which would they be and why?

[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Martine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]

These sound the nicest to my ear…

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] (would make a nice middle)
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] ([name_f]Simona[/name_f])

Bonus*
[name_f]Martine[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Martina[/name_f] or [name_f]Marketa[/name_f]

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] – Feminine, associated with my favorite musical, and I like the “Co” sound.
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] – Sweet. First heard the name in one of my favorite TV shows, so that’s a positive association as well.
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] – Feminine, associated with my favorite books.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] – Strong name. Associated with one of my favorite books.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] – Nicest sounding of those that are left.

[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - I think this name feels a little bit dumpy. The [name_f]Margo[/name_f]/Margots I know are in their 50s and one of them shortened her name from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] to seem more stylish.
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] - this name isn’t really given because it’s so tied to the literary character. It isn’t easy to wear.
[name_f]Una[/name_f] - a beautiful name!
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - lovely traditional name
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - beautiful
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] to [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I also love the meaning.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] - gorgeous
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - to HP for me.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - feels trendy and star trek-y to me.
[name_f]Martine[/name_f] - I would have put [name_f]Martina[/name_f] in the Top 5 but not [name_f]Martine[/name_f] because I’ve never heard of the name before, and I think it would easily be mispronounced.

[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]

Honourable mention to [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], [name_u]Simone[/name_u]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is elegant whereas [name_f]Margo[/name_f] to me is a big loud chairwoman of the DAR.

[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is sweet, though girl-like. A better middle?

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is a perennial favorite.

[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is a delight and [name_u]Simone[/name_u] is sophisticated.

All of the names are fine, except [name_f]Una[/name_f] which to me sounds like servant woman from an old movie.

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]

I see [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] in your signature and I just have to point out that I love that name!

[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - I love this name, its very vintage but also has a really modern edge to it, it also sounds super glamorous, like a golden era Hollywood star. It’s simply stunning and you only need to look at [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] to see its no longer and outdated name.
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] - it’s an okay name but too associated to literature and a musical. It reminds me too much of the word castanets and the only nickname I can get out of it is Cossie, which reminds me of a bathing suit.
[name_f]Una[/name_f] - the ‘Oon’ part is so harsh and masculine, its just not a pretty name in my opinion
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - a very sweet and wholesome name, I imagine a little girl who likes to play outdoors a lot.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - ‘Delph’ seems too harsh, especially against the elegant, feminine ‘ine’. Its also too associated with [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] LaLaurie, a woman who allegedly tortured and murdered her household slaves in the most gruesome ways.
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - I really like this one, [name_m]Ive[/name_m] always been a fan of nature names and the more unusual the better. It’s very sweet, wholesome and modern.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] - The ‘moan’ sound is too harsh and inelegant. I would always envisage teasing of ‘[name_u]Simone[/name_u] the moaner’
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - Whilst I do love the spelling and the meaning behind the name, it sounds to similar to Phlegm for me to consider it a good name, which is a pity tbh
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - It has a beautiful meaning and is beautifully written/spelt but it reminds me to much of ostrich and asteroid. I think I prefer the Norwegian pronunciation (the d is silent)
[name_f]Martine[/name_f] - too similar to the overtly masculine [name_m]Martin[/name_m] and reminds me of a Martini
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] - I love that it is associated with Royalty, but I’m not too keen on the ‘gene’ sound. It is a very underused name though so you won’t encounter many other Eugenies.

So my top 5 are:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (pronounced the Norwegian way!)
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - even though I wouldn’t use it for the reasons noted above

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - I think this is such a diverse name for somebody. It’s sophisticated but also cute and spunky and it’s got the [name_m]French[/name_m] appeal.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] - This name oozes class, I think of jazz and art
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - A sweet, [name_m]French[/name_m] name that is not too obvious of a word name
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - This is the odd one out of my choices. I like it a lot, it combines a celestial name with an old fashioned name. Simply gorgeous.
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] - Another classy [name_m]French[/name_m] name, not too common and very pretty.

[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f]: It seems that everyone on NameBerry loves this name but I honestly hate it. In fact I’m not a fan of names that end in an -o sound, the five years I spent in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] taught me that -o is a masculine ending for names and -a a feminine one. But in general, I hate the sound of the name, it sounds to “harsh” for a girl, to me there is no substance in this name, but it’s just my personal opinion.
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]: I love the name, I like the character in [name_u]Les[/name_u] Miserables but I don’t like the meaning. “[name_m]Little[/name_m] thing”? Really? However, I can’t resist to it’s cute [name_m]French[/name_m] sound. I dislike the similar [name_f]Colette[/name_f] though (honestly, a colleague of mine told me the first thing she though when she heard the name of the [name_m]French[/name_m] accountant of the company we work in, was colon. She ruined the name for me)
[name_f]Una[/name_f]: I dislike the oo sound. In fact there are so few names I truly like. This one is not one of them. [name_f]Una[/name_f] seems to simple and without substance, the same happens when I hear [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I’m sorry if this is offensive, it’s just my personal opinion.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]: I like it’s flowery meaning. You would be surprised if I told you that the first thing that comes to mind is leaves falling instead of flowers but anyway this name is on the right side of simple. I would use it as a middle name though.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]: It’s like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] sound, perfect name with a [name_m]French[/name_m] feel but “dolphin” is not something I would name my daughter. I prefer traditional names but it’s simply irresistible!
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]: I’m sorry, it’s not a name to me.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]: Maybe my opinion is biased because of [name_u]Simone[/name_u] de Beauvoir, so I’ll just mention that [name_u]Simone[/name_u] sounds sophisticated and strong to me (maybe due to [name_u]Simone[/name_u] de Beauvoir, I’m not a feminist-activist, but she’s just an inspiration)
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]: Same as [name_f]Flora[/name_f], it’s simple but substantial. This time, I associate it with flowers, mainly daisies. I would use it in the middle spot, just like [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]: I can’t resist to the sound of this name. It sounds so strong and decisive. It reminds me the ancient Greek word ἄστ”ον which means star. I know it derived from the Old Norse elements áss “god” and fríðr “beautiful, beloved” and it doesn’t mean star, but it’s my first association. I would like to use this name if I had more children.
[name_f]Martine[/name_f]: I prefer [name_f]Martina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]: I don’t know how is this one pronounced in English, but since I have worked with many [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking people, I have to admit that the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is just adorable.

My Top Five
1.[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] (the character association is much stronger than the meaning)
2.[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (it sounds so strong and beautiful at the same time)
3.[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (the [name_m]French[/name_m] feel is irresistible)
4.[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] (again, the [name_m]French[/name_m] feel and the meaning of this name are making it perfect)
5. [name_u]Simone[/name_u] (yes, thanks to [name_u]Simone[/name_u] de Beauvoir)

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - One of my all-time favorites. It’s sophisticated and chic. Feminine yet strong. I love it.

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] - Very sweet and delicate. I prefer [name_f]Colette[/name_f], but [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] is still very pretty.

[name_f]Una[/name_f] - It’s kind of pretty, actually. I like how it’s unexpected and underused. I could see it really growing on me.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - I am not a fan. I get it means flower, but the sound of the name isn’t very pretty. [name_f]Floor[/name_f]-ah.

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - Gorgeous. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.

[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - I like it as a middle name but it’s a little too carefree for the first name.

[name_u]Simone[/name_u] - Another great [name_m]French[/name_m] name. Pretty without being frilly.

[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - Similar to [name_f]Flora[/name_f] (obviously), but it makes me have similar feelings. I just don’t think the sound is pretty.

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - I used to think it was cool when I was younger. Then it was a joke on an episode of “The Office” when it was still on because one of the characters had a daughter and named her [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. They kept calling her “*ss turd”. Juvenile, yes. But I can’t get it out of my head. I think it’s more the idea of the “*ss” part that bugs me.

[name_f]Martine[/name_f] - I don’t find it pretty, nor feminine enough.

[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] - This name is interesting and slowly growing on me. However, it doesn’t hold a candle next to some of your other names.

Top 5:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]

Top 5:
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - Spunky and cute. I alternate between spelling, both are lovely.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - Pretty, quirky and it has cute nn.[name_f]Delphie[/name_f].
[name_u]Simone[/name_u] - This has grown on me recently. I think it’s pretty and underused.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - Another great spunky name.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], another cute choice.

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] - I know this is popular on nameberry but I’m personally not a fan.
[name_f]Una[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Oona[/name_f] and I like others on your list more.
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - I think you have prettier names on your list and I personally have other nature names I like more. I can see it working as a middle though. [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]?
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - This would be my number 6. Very pretty name but I prefer the sound of [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
[name_f]Martine[/name_f] - This one is dated to me, all the ones I know are middle aged. Maybe as a middle but I much prefer the others on your list.
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] - I can’t make my mind up about [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is similar. It would be my number 7 from your list.

  1. [name_f]Martine[/name_f]
    2.[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
    3.[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
    4.[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
    5.[name_f]Una[/name_f]
